My husband did the repair, and even though our refrigerator is roughly 20+ years old, he was able to adapt it to work in all the right spots and we now have ice cubes! I'm very happy we did not have to spend $2000 on a comparable refrigerator.
First I replaced the double valve because the ice maker was not filling with water. It still did not work. Then I replaced the ice maker itself. This worked and was relatively easy to replace. I had to use the water fill "slide" from the old ice maker. The new one was too narrow and it leaked water into the freezer.
After I bought what I thought I needed for the repair. I asked a friend to come over and look at it. He changed the the light socket and put the same light bulb in and it works great. I am returning the light switch but decided to keep the light bulb.
Getting on the internet was so easy. This was really very simple. Thank you for making what I thought would be a big ordeal into something very simple.
Turned off power, removed cover from Ice maker, checked resistance across thermostat for zero (read open), all other switches read proper value (when activated). Ordered and received thermostat. Removed Ice Maker from freezer, removed two screws holding ice tray to Control Assembly. Removed Thermostat and replaced with new one. Applied Silicone Sealant to face of Thermostat for adhesion to ice tray when assembled. Remounted Ice Tray to Control Assembly and remounted in freezer. Works Great...
Unplugged the appliance for safety. Removed two 1/4" screws that held the assembly in place. Carefully removed the wire guard that retains the glass shield. Unscrewed old light bulb and replaced with new part. Reversed the steps after cleaning glass cover.
Twice I ordered the oven light bulb & each time the light bulb was defected
I had to call for a appointment for repair with GE Appliance because I thought then it . .was something electrical. The technician came out & checked everything out, turned out it was not electrical, The technician went out to his truck got a light bulb from his truck, put it in & it worked. It cost me $121.00 for trip charge from GE appliance for a light bulb that worked, your light bulbs were defective twice. Very disappointed with your products, cost me alot of money for a good light bulb thru GE appliance
First I turned the refrigerator and water line off. Then moved to the freezer section, followed the directions, removed the two screws. Directions state to not remove them but I had to in this case. Unplugged the ice maker and removed it from the freezer. I installed the two mounting screws then tried to plug the electrical connection back in but had to use the adaptor cord furnished in the kit. The cord was a little long but I tucked it in and mounted the ice maker. Turned it on then turned the refrigerator and water back on and in a few hours had ice! Very easy to do!
Unplugged the old ice maker. Removed the two screws that held it in. Removed the old ice maker and replaced it with the new one. Put back the two screws, plugged it back in and turned on the power switch. It started making and dropping ice in the first 1/2 hour.
Factory ice maker was running water out of the fridge onto the floor.
My wife and I decided to tackle this job on a Saturday. The fridge was due for a good cleaning anyway. We pulled it out and shut off the water to the ice maker. I took out the old ice maker, (two screws and the plug) Then went to the back of the fridge. removed the cardboard cover at the bottom of the frigdge and took the mounting screw out of the water valve. I had a double valve for the no longer working in-door water so I made sure to identify Then installed the new water valve. Note: be sure to check your connections for leaks before mounting the water valve - it is easier to see and fix them !!!! You can leave the water on at this point because the icemaker and water valve will not operate until the icemaker is plugged in. Next choose the right water fill cup, and install the ice maker to the existing screw mounts and plug in the connector. Note: be sure the ice maker is turned off. Start the fridge, let it get cold, then turn on the icemaker. Overall this is a great multi install package - Don't worry about extra parts because you will have some. If we would have just needed to do the icemaker and not clean the fridge, I could have done it in about an hour. Overall I would highly recommend this package vs what is available at other retailers for more money. Best Buy has a bargain replacement icemaker but does not have the versatility and completeness of this product. I give this product 5 stars.... dm
By following the instructions in the manual that went with it, I used the parts in the order that the instructions said. The illustrations were very easy and now we dont have to use ice cube trays any longer. Any person without experience that can follow directions can put in an icemaker with the simple to follow instructions that was used in the manual.
Opened back, found fan not moving. Cleaned out dust and dirt. Received exact fan motor. Easiest fix I ever performed(very unusual). Fridge now runs great! Also, water line to in-door ice and water dry roughted and sprung leak. Replaced tubing.
I removed the bin and dumped out all the ice then I took out the two screws holding the icemaker to the freezer wall. I then unplugged the icemaker. Since all of the funnels etc were in place I simply plugged in the new icemaker, installed the two mounting screws, slipped the icemaker in place tightened the screws and turned it on.I'm happy to say the new unit is much faster than theold one. By morning I had a full bin of cubes. Thanks so much for your help.
