AMKIT97 Whirlpool Ice Maker - Instructions

Based on research done on your site, I concluded that my problems was the icemaker control. The video showed me exactly what to do. During removal, I dropped the unit and broke the water fill cup. Ordered the control unit (as well as a replacement for the broken cup). Installed in about ten minutes. You really can't mess up. It only goes in one way! The next day, bucket was full of ice. Thanks for all the help. I figured I saved $200.00 on the cost of a technician call.

I followed the simple steps in the awesome repair video!

At first I thought the problem ws with the water valve. I tested it and got a normal reading. Just as Partselect suggested, it was the Icemaker Control and Motor Assembly. Once I removed the old one I noticed it was dry rotted on the plastic stem that turns the wheel. I tried to replace it while it was still in the freezer. That didnt work very well so I ended up taking the whole ice maker out as shown in the video. Once everything was back together and plugged in I heard that sweet sound of water flowing down the chute into the ice maker. About 4 days later the ice bucket was full to the top with ice.

Changed the Motor Assembly. Wasn't the problem. If I had followed your trouble chart a little farther I would have found out it was the circuit boards. All is well and I might add that yor guide with the parts and video are priceless. Very Happy. Lowell Onstad

My ice maker (2001 Whirlpool Gold side by side) stopped making ice. Using the model number (inside fridge, right wall), Google found the partselect website containing diagrams of the entire refrigerator. Using the "freezer liner" and "ice maker" diagrams, I discovered that electronic control boards, control and motor assembly, and water inlet valves could cause the ice maker to stop making ice. Since the LED lamps in the freezer liner were not working (diagnosis described as part of the emitter control board description), I replaced the emitter control boards first. After installation, the lights worked properly, according to the diagnosis, but still no ice. It seemed logical to next replace the control and motor assembly. About two hours after installation, the ice maker produced cubes, and has been working since. Each of the two parts orders from PartSupply came within 3 days, and were the correct parts for my machine. Installation illustrations were accurate and helpful

Ordered the part recommended by your site, followed the instructions of the associated video and new ice is piling up right now. My only concern was no action for a time right after the install. Turns out the temperature of the freezer must drop back down to ?? before the ice maker starts to work. I was thinking maybe the electrical connection was not good. I choose to wait a night and see if change would occur. Freezer cooled down and ice maker started.

Exactly as shown in the video; had a bit of trouble with the wiring harness, but all else went smoothly. If it were not for the explicit video installation instruction, it could not have been done by a do-it-yourself guy with tools. I had ice again in 3 hours! PartSelect is the absolute best when it comes to diagnosing, ordering and installing the part(s).

It was so simple, one screw to take the ice maker out and four screws for the motor. I ordered the motor because in your web site it suggested that 46% of the times its the motor the problem, I guess you could now say 47%. Got the part within 3 days. It was a pleasure doing business with your company. I recommended highly to everyone. Your web site was a lot of help.

1. Turn off ice maker and cut power to refrigerator. 2. Remove food from top two freezer shelves and remove top shelf. 3. Using nut driver, remove screw that secures plastic shield to the bottom of ice maker. Remove shield and place it on the empty freezer shelf. 4. Remove ice maker unit by sliding it free of the two rails that hold the bottom of the unit in place ... when it is free of the rails, pivot the left-hand end of the unit downward to allow access to the electrical connection. 5. To pull the electrical connector apart, use a small flat-end screwdriver to pry (gently) just above the little protrusion that keeps the two halves secure during operation. 6. Once the electrical connector has been pulled apart, the unit can be placed on a counter top. Pull the square plastic shield off the left-hand side of the unit (it just pulls off, no screws hold it in place) and set it aside on the counter. 7. Remove the 3 screws that hold the motor assembly in place with a phillip's screw driver. Pull off the motor assembly and push on the new motor assembly ... you might have to "wiggle" the white plastic "fingers" over the ice bin to get the axle aligned properly with the motor assembly ... this is very easy to do. 8. Screw new motor assembly in place. 9. Holding the ice maker at an angle in the freezer, reconnect the electrical connectors, then hold the ice maker level in front of the side rails and push it back in place. Replace the small shield and secure it with the screw and nut driver. Replace freezer shelf and food, restore power to the refrigerator, turn on ice maker switch. Wait a few moments and hear the blessed sound of water filling the ice maker tray. Put away tools, check time (a 10-minute job!), do victory dance ... and then see the shield that covers the motor assembly still sitting on the counter! Repeat process, except this time it is not necessary to take apart the electrical connection ... but, of course, the ice maker now has water in it so when you tip it to push the shield back on ... Suffice it to say, that even though I had to do the job twice, I was thrilled with my $59.00 part ... we live in the boonies so a service call by a repairperson would have cost me more than $200.00 ... plus the part and labor.
