Broken Latch Assembly
I removed the screws around the top and halfway down the sides of the inside of the door. I found that you dont have to remove all 10 screws to access the assembly. Reach in and pulled out the assembly, there was enough slack to pull it out above the door. Pull the connectors off and slide the new ones on. Set the new assembly back in place, insert the 2 top screws first, and then the rest. That was it...very simple to change.
Ensure to order part # PS1559543, which is the complete assembly although the diagram doesn't show this, and not PS2100626 which doesn't include the handle. The new assembly is a different style than the original therefore you should replace the complete assembly.
This was an easy fix. Remove the eleven torque screws on the door and separate the inner door panel enough to remove the old assembly. Remove the wire connections from the door switches, reconnect to the new assembly, and reinstall the assembly and inner door panel.
Removed inside cover. removed part. disconnected switches. plugged wires onto new part. placed part in. put inside cover on and screwed down. Note: be careful of the bottom of the inside cover.
The upper arm assembly removes easily by unsnapping a plastic part or two that holds it in place. Once the arm assembly is removed, you simply remove the screw that holds the arm on, replace the arm, and replace the screw. The key thing here is that you need a "star drive". This is a screw driver or bit that has a star shaped end. I don't know what size it is.
First I removed the screws from the inside of the door exposing the latch assembly. Removed the old part and installed the new assembly. Don't screw it on to the door untill the cover is on again. First I ordered only the latch without the handle. Found after opening it up the handle was broken on the inside so had to order the assembly. It's a piece of cake to install. If you're having touble opening the door don't think because the handle looks ok from the outside it's not broken.. probably is. Partselect.com is the greatest company to deal with. first, i removed the inner door panel exposing the latch assembly. i then disconnected the wiring to switches noting their locations. removed and replaced with new latch assembly, connected all wiring back to their corresponding switches, assembled the inner door panel and checked to make sure the latch was working properly.
The plastic wheels on the upper and lower racks keep breaking. The latest casualty was also chewed up by the dog(s). They just pop right on the posts, a simple 2-second fix. I ordered the parts on a Tuesday morning, standard shipping, and they arrived FedEx less than 24 hours later. They came from Peoria, and I live about 1 hour away in Bloomington. Very pleased with the service. Will order from PartsSelect again if I need parts for any other appliance that I can fix myself.
Latch handle broke, making it hard to open the door.
Removed ~12 screws holding the inside liner onto the door. Pulled off the two connectors (one with black and one with white wires). Replace the handle and latch mechanism. Redid connections and replaced screws. Viola. (Be sure to buy BOTH the handle and latch mechanism- I don't see how you could easily install the handle on the mechanism myself, and what broken in my case was the black handle).
Taking the upper and middle dish racks out, I reached in and pulled out the old parts, then popped the new ones on. All of the ususal tips for our problem weren't cutting it, so we finally figured the seals at the back of the dishwasher were not effective in keeping the appropriate amount of water pressure in the spray arms. The rubbery seals had been degraded by harsh detergents. We ordered the new seals from your company after a phone call to verify we were choosing the correct parts and easily put them in place. Now our dishwasher does what it was designed to do! And less than $40.00 including shipping! We did not need a new dishwasher.
I had to remove the the old retainer from the old wash arm ,install it on the new arm by snapping it on then I snapped the arm with the retainer up top of dishwasher.
Open the door. Pull out the gasket. Clean the channel where the gasket is going. Find the middle of the gasket and pushed it in the channel. Done! I followed the instruction on the package that it came in.
Turned off water at the shutoff valve. I did not turn off the power, but it is recommended you do so. I pulled the dishwasher out from under the cabinet and used a car jack to lift the front off of the ground. Disconnected the water supply and the rubber hose that fills the dishwasher tub. There are two 7mm screws that hold the water pump to the frame. If you do not have a 7mm socket, the easiest thing to use is an interchangeable screwdriver. When the screw bit is pulled out, the empty screwdriver is a 7mm. Used adjustable wrench to remove the brass water port for the supply line. Teflon tape to all connections and hooked everything back up. My supply line was old and was leaking, so I had to run out and get a new one, so that added about 30 minutes to what would have been maybe a 20 minute repair.
