A100S Maytag Washer - Instructions

I changed the belt but the problem re-occurred so its back to the drawing board

First off I would like to say how suprised I was that parts are still available for a 23 year old machine and that partselect not only had the parts but a video for the repair. The video really shortened up the time it took to get to the motor and pump as I thought going in from the back would be how to access them. I did have to tighten the pump belt as per included instructions. The drive belt went on easy. I buttoned it up and tried it out and the machine worked great but a few loads later the burning rubber smell came back and the machine wouldnt agitate. I could go through the cycles a few times and it would then start agitating but that is only a temporary fix so I took the front cover off and looked the drive system. I noticed two drive motor tension springs side buy side and what looked to me like holes for a third tension spring. I added a third spring and so far so good but I will keep an eye on the machine for a while to see if the third spring does the trick.

Removed 2 screws on front of washing machine to remove front panel. Tilted washer back and slipped off old belts and slipped the new ones on..they are on the bottom of washer...had to push on motor mount a little..but very easy..put the front cover back on...working fine so far

I found this website and it was the only reason I was able to fix the washer leak. I was about to go out and buy a new washer and dryer combo. Found the part after googling it and this website also had video on how to replace the washer seal kit. The drawings allowed me to see what the problem was and the video helped me know how to change the seal kit. I never would have known about the left hand threads on the tub nuts. I used a short punch to free nut instead of the spanner wrench which I didn't have. Otherwise repair went exactly as shown. I will always use this site to fix my appliances from now on.

Watched the installation video on the website and used exactly the same technique. Belts came off easily as did the pump assembly. Installed the new pump and belts and adjusted the pump belt tension to 1/4 " when squeezed together. Replaced the front panel and moved washer back into position. The pump noise was gone and there were no leaks. Easy job.

Unplug the machine and disconnect the two water hoses. Use a short phillip screwdriver to remove two screws from the bottom front of the machine. Lift of the front panel to expose the motor. Lay the machine on its back on a 4 x 4 so the drain hose won't be damaged. If the screws appear rusted spary Kroil on them and let it soak for 45 - 60 mins. Remove the two belts. Remove the pulley via the set screw. Remove the four nuts to free the motor and slide plate. Undo all the wires. Remove the four nuts holding the slide plate. Install the new motor.

searched on line for the part.you guys had a very informative video looked how simple it was i purchased the part i needed and the rest was history thanks you guys are great saved me around 140.00 bucks. for about 15 minutes worth of work

pulled out washer from the wall tilted back towards the wall. removed front panel by pulling it out at the bottom. .removed belts by spinning the pulley .similar to taking a bike chain off. cleaned all pulleys with a degreaser 409 etc. springs are under the motor. slide motor away from you. remove springs with needle nose pliers from the front. to install new springs hook them to the rear of the motor first. fish them under the motor then grab them with needle nose pliers and hook to the front of the bracket. you could also tie a fishing line to the front of the spring and pull it thru that way. install belts [very easy]. did not need plastic guides. i did not install

Love these older machines... Easy simple and straightforward. Lay the product front up on a small 2 X 4. Remove front cover, (two phillips head screws near bottom). reach under hand roll off both belts,, check belt numbers to ensure old belt numbers with new belts. Rolled on new belts, checked tension, per enclosed note. Ajusted belt tension via the pump. replaced front cover and screws. Install unit, (be sure to level it) Time to Rock and roll.

I followed the step by step instructions on the video and it worked to a (T). You guys are the best. Thank you for all your help. Sincerely Eddie .

I am not going to describe the repair. The video that Part Select has on their website is exactly how our repair went. Very simple. This is the second time we have used Part Select. They have saved us a lot of money on repairmen or new purchases. I would definitely use them in the future. The videos are so easy to follow anybody can make the repairs. Also, the delivery company not only misdelivered the part but, they damaged it. When I called Part Select about the part being damaged, they immediately sent out a new part without any questions. Why aren't all companies this awesome?!

I watched the video and everthing went pretty well. The only problem I had was removing the Clamp Nut. My Washer is more than 10yrs. old so there is a lot of water and lime build up. I use a Cole Chisel and a Ball Pen Hammer to break the Clamp Nut. Because you can dispose of it anyway a new Clamp Nut comes with your Mounting Stem/Tub Seal Kit. The Tub wrench comes in handy for removing the Mounting Stem and to reseat the Mounting Stem. You are also going to need the Tub Wrench for reseating the Clamp Nut. You can order a Tub Wrench online there are various web sites.

After unpluging cord and disconnecting hoses, I layed the washer over on its front. I simply rolled both belts off their pulleys and installed the new ones. This was easier than I thought! I gave a turn or two on both sets of pulleys to make sure something wasn't preventing the pulleys from rotating properly and all seemed to move okay. After reconnecting everything and doing a test run, I discovered that the transmission was not moving as it should and the belt was still binding. Turned out the 25+ year old transmission finally gave up! I doubt if any new washer I buy will last half that long

I suspected the pump, so, once I removed it, it was obvious that the shaft from the pump pulley to the impeller was broken (the pulley turned, but the impeller was not turning).I ordered a genuine "Maytag" pump from Parts Select, even though it cost me twice as much as other pumps advertised on Amazon.com. Why fool around? While I was at it, I also ordered 2 new belts from Parts Select, even though the belts on the machine looked OK. But heck, the old belts were 26 years old! What a great machine this old Maytag! This is the first time in 26 years that it failed me...The only reason I looked at the Parts Select repair video was to know what tension to put on the pump belt...BTW, I ordered the parts on the weekend, and they were sitting on my front porch Tuesday, early morning. Impressive..

I tried to get an appointment with our local appliance repair company, but they cancelled and wouldn't reschedule at a convenient time, so I decided to do it myself. Determined that the Mounting Stem/Tub Seal kit was the needed part and ordered it here. Also had to order the specialty spanner wrench from another website. Parts were delivered in a timely manner. The online video was very helpful and the removal and replacement of the defective part went smoothly. The only problem with the actual repair was with removing the old tub seal gasket -- it took quite a bit of coaxing to get it free. The new parts went in with no problems. However, we have an older model than the one shown in the video -- it has the metal tub top cover with the rubber gasket and ring clamp. This cover is tricky to replace properly. It has to be at just the right height to avoid interference with the spinning inner tub (too low) or with the washer lid (too high). You also have to make sure that the rubber gasket it not twisted or crimped by the ring clamp. It took me three tries to get this just right. After that, everything worked fine and the leak is fixed.
