Icemaker quit releasing ice from tray and water was pouring and freezing in ice storage bin
This couldn't have been easier. Two tiny screws in the front needed unscrewed, and then two plastic clips in the middle just had to be popped lose. Finally, you unplugged the power cord. Then, you just needed to reverse the process by plugging the new ice maker in, popping the clips in place, and screwing the two holes back in and turning the whole thing on. Voila! Perfect ice cubes again. And for only a little over $100.
This is an exact replacement. Be aware that the left door and right door have differently shaped shelves, so you need to make sure you are buying the correct part for the left or right door. Remove food items from shelf, pull straight up and discard broken shelf. Insert new shelf onto the same door nubs and push down. Place food items back into shelf. Now warn family members in the future not to the slam door into oversized food items placed in the shelf!
Once I U tubed the the removal and replacement of the gaskets it was super easy. The right gasket change was easy without tools. The left gasket required me to remove the mullion first, which is why I used Utube.
Ice crystals appearing on the face of the freezer draws
Part Select had a great video which made the repair easy, using a putty knife to start removing the freeze door gasket. Once removed the install is simple just snap the new gasket into the track, but start at the corner. Other company's have a video requiring you to remove the entire freezer compartment out of the appliance, unnecessary waste of time and labor.
Unplug the refrigerator and empty the freezer. Remove the lower basket and roll out upper tray. Open the freezer door. I was able to lie on the floor to remove the 2 screws holding the ice maker without removing the freezer door. Depress the 2 tabs and slide the ice maker forward to remove. Install in reverse order. Change the water inlet valve at the same time.
All I had to do was remove original Pullout Drawer that holds the ice cubes from the bottom ice machine. Replaced the old Pullout Drawer with the new one. Original tray pulls out to it's stopping point and all I had to do was lift it up and pull it out. The New tray fit right in and I was done. Completed in less then 5 min. and No tools needed.
The door gaskets had become hard and curled up - would not seal properly
Watch YouTube videos on this topic if you are uncertain before tackling the job. The right door was easy to replace. Just pull the gasket with your fingers and it will come off easily. Place new gasket over door and use fingers to press it inside the groove few inches at a time. Pay attention to gasket orientation.
The left door is a bit harder because you need to remove the mullion at the door edge using a screw driver. Remove two screws on the center hinge and then slide the mullion up to disengage. Then unplug the wires to remove the mullion. Replace the gasket as described above and replace the mullion reversing the directions shown above.
Opened the box. Removed wrapping. Washed the new part. Unloaded old basket. Removed old basket. Set in new basket. Loaded new basket. Closed the door. Even an 80 year old can do it!
