The old coupling wore off
Thanks to the good advise of those who did this before me ,I know I need a very slender wrench to get between the screwed on base of the coupling and the copy of the base of the blender.
I tried to file one myself, but the metal was too weak. Because i had the size (from what I filed), I measured and knew i needed a 7 MM wrench. I bought one at the parts store and ground it thin enough to slip into the small space and from there it was a five minute job.

broken rubber coupling on blender base
A very flat wrench or needle nose pliers was needed. I could not get the nut unscrewed with what I had so I had to mail the unit to a service center for repair. They were able to use the part I had purchased but if I had known I wouldn't be able to do it I could have saved a little money in the shipping I had to pay when I ordered the part.

Blender coupling cogs were broken
Remove blender jar to get to drive cog. Use a 1/4 to 3/8 flat open-end wrench to hold cog shaft then turn the cog with your hand CLOCKWISE to loosen. Screw new cog gear on COUNTERCLOCKWISE hand tight. Reassemble your blender and you're good to go. It takes a very thin flat wrench but even if you have to buy a set the're not very expensive. Good luck.

coupler stripped out
I followed the advice of others who have written their story. It is very important that you know the coupler has a left handed screw pattern. I had to use pliers the entire process to unscrew the coupler and a screw driver through the bottom between the fan blades to hold shaft. I finally had to put the screw driver -gently- as far in as possible in a position that would hold the blade.

We accidentally destroyed the driver coupler when was not seated properly. Thge driver couple is designed to self-destruct in this instance which it did rendering the 5 speed KIitchen Aid blender inoperable. Needed a new coupler.
The shaft and the coupler are threaded. On could unthread the coupler. But many time it is frozen. The coupler is manufactured out of soft metal center and plastic. If frozen, it can be pried off the shaft using a large screw driver --- per the instructions provided with the part. This worked well with no damage to the blender power shaft. The new coupler was simply screwed on to the shaft and it works fine. The online schematics provided by PartsSelect helped me identify th part, part number and the nomenclature. The part arrive on the west coas in about four day --- very quick service. Thanks, PartSelect. Great job!!!

Rubber coupling between blender and motor was damaged
The bottom of the coupling is threaded so that if you turn it clockwise, it just unscrews. I unscrewed the damaged coupler and screwed the new on back on.

Old rubber drive coupling melted by my 13 year old.
Rubber coupling is mounted in soft metal. Instructions has the old coupling being pried off its stainless draive shaft with a large screw driver...45 seconds. The threads on the drive shaft weren't hurt. The new coupling was screwed on...15 seconds. Done. 1 minute plus the time to order the part on line.

Rubber tips had worn down on coupling
The part came with instructions, which I followed. I used a flat head screwdriver which I inserted in the space between the coupling and the housing, and applied gentle upward pressure on the drive shaft (by prying the handle downward) while rotating the coupling in a clockwise direction. It was a little hard to prevent the shaft from turning as the coupling was rotated - but after a few tries, the coupling unscrewed all the way off and putting the new one one was a cinch.
