un plug fridge. removed ice maker from fridge. loosen 2 mounting screws. lift unit in slots to get over heads of screws. unplug wire harness. remove cover. remove 3 screws from control housing. remove 2 motor mounting screws. unplug motor wires from switches w/needle nose. installation is the reverse. plug in fridge turn on icemaker. takes 10 to 15 min to start to cycle. easy and cheaper than new fridge or ice maker
The ice maker wouldn't fill with water. The maker itself appeared to operate but the tray would not fill. I ordered the part from PartSelect.com. The website allowed me to conveniently match a picture of the part with my part on the refrig. I ordered the part and it arrived in two days. I was impressed!
I turned the water to the ice maker off, unplugged the refrig. and pulled it out from the wall. I loosened and removed two screws with a nut-driver and unplug the wiring connection from the old part by simply pulling on it with my fingers. I then unscrewed the water connection from the old part using a set of pliers. The old part was then discarded. I connected the water and electrical and remounted the new part using the two screws. It was too easy!
I replaced the solenoid first because the ice maker was not getting water. After replacing the solenoid valve, I waited about 1/2 an hour, still no water. So, I ordered a replacement ice maker. I then installed the replacement ice maker, waited a 1/2 an hour, still no water. Then, I waited overnight. Yeah, ice! WORD OF ADVICE. WAIT OVERNIGHT TO SEE IF THE ICE MAKER CREATES ICE. Not sure how long a cycle takes, but it's longer than you would think. Hope your installation is a success!
Removed the cowling with a square drive screw driver, removed the spring clip from the cover of the compressor controls with a screw driver, pulled off the old compressor start relay and replaced it with the new part. Since other problems could have caused the compressor to short cycle this was a "replace the part and hope it would work" since that would be the most common reason and it was not a very expensive part.
Simple switch repair: Unplug fridge, pull down to remove switch assembly, slip contacts off. Reverse with replacement switch. HOWEVER, check first to see if the bulb filament might be broken, as this could cause the same symptom. OR in my case, the light socket connection was the culprit. Check that too before ordering a replacement switch.
Watched YouTube video. Very easy. Used my cell phone camera in ‘selfie’ mode propped up in the upper right hand corner of freezer to see the 2 hidden screws.
I basically followed the instructions offered when i searched for the ice maker. It was relatively easy to do, I undid the 2 screws holding the ice maker to the side of the freezer, the was the tricky part, holding a mirror so i could see the slots of the screws. loosened them, disconnected the electrical connection and reversed the process for the install. It took about 25 minutes and i was back making ice.
I opened the fridge door and lifted up the old gasket to investigate the situation. I saw that the inside door panel (the one that has the butter compartment and additional shelves for condiments) had screws every few inches. I determined that this was holding the smaller lip of the gasket in. I got out my trusty cordless drill and went to work. After a few mild cuss words, I did manage to get the very last corner on, as that is the trickiest part of the installation. Note that I am an almost "60" year old woman who has many other tools, including a chain saw, which I utilize every now and then. So if I can do it myself, I certainly will! The best thing of it all was that I ordered the part on 8/22/08 and when I arrived home the evening of 8/24/08, the box with the part was sitting on the back deck. Loosened the 2 screws a little so that it would slide up and off then unplugged the wire harness. Installed the new one in reverse order and works like a champ.
it was really easy changing the ice maker. the only trouble i had was the wiring. it was very stiff and hard to route. it did not work at first but that was my fault did not have the connector plugged in all the way.since then it works great.
I removed the two screws and unplugged it. I then attached the pigtail to the appliance, then to the fridge. I had to push the excess wire harness into the hole in the back. It took a few minutes to move the rest of the harness out of the way by curving it upward and securing it with a nylon tie.I ordered the ice maker from Part Select on Sunday night and it arrived at 8:32 Tuesday morning, THANK YOU! I ordered very simple weed cutter parts from Sears a week ago and they haven't even shipped yet!
After the refrigerator stopped cooling, we determined that the problem was in the compressor area. we used a screwdriver to get the cover off and then vice grips to get the actual pieces out (start relay & overload)--they broke, but they were already broken). We went to the Home Depot site to purchase the parts, but found PartSelect to be much less expensive. Put the parts in when they came a few days later and it worked! thank you PartSelect!
I removed the old ice maker and unplugged the cable. Screwed in the new one with a 1/4 nut driver at the 2 mounting screws, plugged cable in. Checked ice maker with a small level before final. All Ok and after night I had Ice and it has been working great since.
