Removed top and front panels, lifted front of drum, slid new belt on drum then thru tension and motor pulleys. reassembled.

After getting on-line to your site we looked up what the problem could be after receiving the dryer from a friend to transfer from electric to gas to save money. First we thought it to be the ignitor and after receiving it so quickly it still didn't work so went to your site again and found the Flame sensor. They were both defective and now it works wonderful!!! Your site also explains what and how to repair the appliance, which my husband appreciated! found that the lever on the switch was broken,i found one on the part select website and ordered it. the picture was very helpful in confirming the right switch was being ordered.thank you

After doing on line research at other sites, I bought an inexpensive multimeter, took off the back of the dryer, and started trying to figure out what part wasn't working. I might as well have tried to diagnose a jet engine problem, I didn't have a clue. Then I went to the Part Select site, and their stats showed that in 50% or so of the cases where a Roper doesn't start, you need a thermal fuse, and should also replace the cycling thermostat while you're at it. The "how-to" video showed me exactly what the parts look like, and where they are in the machine, and the cost of the parts plus delivery was less than $50!! It was worth taking the chance for $50. The parts came in two days, were installed in five minutes, the dryer works and I'm thrilled! Part Select is the absolute best. This is the first appliance repair I've ever done. I would never have done it without you. Thank you.

Initially diagnosed the failure mode as a faulty thermal fuse and when the fuse was replaced was encouraged to find the heat working...then it shut off again. After a period of time that the dryer was off the heat would come back on. After reviewing the site extensively I found a description of the failure mode similar to mine and determined to replace the 2-terminal & 3-terminal coils (kit is less expensive than either by itself). My older Whirlpool dryer needeed to have the top panel removed in order to get to the front panel screws and once the front panel was removed the coil assembly was pretty easy to identify. The retention "plate" was attached via screws that were a little tough to get to but an offset phillips screw driver did the trick. The coils were "keyed" in such a way that they would only insert one way to be properly oriented. So I've earned my appliance repair merit badge.

The Door Catch Kit had clear instructions for installation and included multiple replacement catches to fit several different sizes/varieties of dryers. I used a screwdriver to pry out the broken door catch, popped in the replacement, and was done! As usual, PartSelect had what I needed at a good price, with clear instructions for any needed installation. Fast shipping, too.

Disconnected power to the dryer, opened the top of the dryer by sliding a thin scraper underneath the top on the front of the dryer and the pushed the top of the dryer up. I then disconnected the wire on the switch to isolate the switch from the wire in the dryer. I then removed the switch by unscrewing the two screws on the switch and then replaced it with the new switch. I then reconnected the wire to the wire in the dryer.

Unplugger dryer, removed the back, located and removed the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat, installed new parts plugged in the dryer and activated a drying cycle to check for burner operation, dryer cycled on burner cycled on. Problem solved reinstalled the back. Easier than I expected.

First I changed the thermal fuse. Still did not heat up. Then changed the heater element. That fixed the problem.

I was very pleased with the shipping speed, the belt arrived in less than 24 hours! The installation was very easy and if you need help the video on the belt info page should be helpful.

I am more fortunate than most because I have extensive mechanical repair experience and my father has extensive electrical repair experience...he read the schematic while I placed the probes in the appropriate locations...I completely disassembled, cleaned, replaced all maintenance parts (felt gaskets [front & back of drum], drive belt, foam gaskets on heat exhaust duct)...the culprit was found to be the Thermal Fuse but I also replaced the Cycling Thermstat just because I serviced the entire heat exhaust duct (it had a fair amount of lint in it after 14 years...all other sensors on the heater unit and switches (door switch & centrifical switch (you will never find this unless you take out the drive motor [it is inside the drive motor] were tested and found to be good...all dash controls / switches were found to be in good order also...Part Select is wonderful to work with...they said allow 5 days but the parts were here in 2...! Just a little help for all of you out there...putting the felt gasket on the back of the drum will test your patience...it is a little smaller than the drum and as you get near the end with the glue it is extremely difficult to get on...I would recommend having a lot of clamps handy to hold the portion that is already glued to drum in place and another set of hands to rotate drum while you are stretching on the remaining foot...! One other thing...if you don't want to go thru everything I did chances are quite strong that if the dryer does not restart (after first failing) I would say to just order the Thermal Fuse for the 9-10.00...it is a pretty safe bet this will be your problem...I believe the dryer will start / restart even if the heater unit is no good and or the Cycling Thermostat goes bad since that just senses humidity...? The switch and fuse on the motor are not replaceable here...my father had contacts to get those parts from the motor company but...one is designed to stop the motor if it becomes hot which in all honesty I think would be pretty rare...it is in an open area...the other switch inside the motor prevents the heater from heating up until the motor is spinning which inturn spins the exhaust fan which is a safety feature but again I think motor failure is pretty rare.
