Kitchenaid refrigerator shelf frames were cracking, needed replacement

I had to purchase two shelves and adjustable brackets - though I only needed the slidign glass shelves . Customjer service rep was helpful and pleasant, though the replacements shelves did not bear the Kitchenaid Logo or frosted scheme on glass shelves (I requested and was informed that the replacement shelves would match my Superbra) - Otherwise, parts, when available, were shipped and arrived in well packaged boxes and not damaged. Parts were cheaper than Kitchenaid, though I would call Kitchenaid first to inquire about matching parts prior to ordering from partselect, if that matters to the buyer...Matching shelves may not in fact be available from manufacturer due to age of appliance. Water dispenser not working, Ice dispenser chute icing up

I removed the outer ice/water dispenser cover following directions I found on-line (push down and gently pry out at the bottom). I then removed several nut-head screws which were holding a plastic plate which had the door light and electric control wiring mounted in it. Behind that I found a broken tab on the Control Bracket which was why my water dispencer was not working and I found the chute door for the ice maker was chewed up which allowed warm air into the chute and was causing my ice build up problem. Replacing the Control Bracket was easy. Just note how things come apart. Putting the chute door in was a little more complicated, but again, note how things come apart and you should not have a problem putting it back together. Read more...

Ice Dispenser "round chute" broken side tab, ice/water fountain not working

I could see that a tab was broken from the round chute that opens for ice dispensing and closes to seal off freezer ice chute when not in use. With the tab broken, the round door would not shut to seal the freezer chute and dispensing water would spatter everywhere. I looked for just the round door part, but is only sold in the "Ice dispenser solenoid and door kit" I only had to use the round chute/flap from the kit. The instructions were easy to follow and I had the fridge back working in about 10 minutes. It took me longer to find the right star headed screwdriver that I needed to remove the Maytag star screws (5) total. Because I didn't have to replace the solenoid or the spring mechanism, this was especially easy, and now I have those parts on hand if one day I need them!! Read more...

Ice wouldn't dispense from the door.

Simple. Removed the outer ice/water dispenser cover with two screws on the bottom, then removed the ice door mechanism and replaced the small sealing door and door motor. Reassembled and tested . Works perfect. Replacing the door was neccessary as the foam gasket was worn and probably leaking air even though the motor was the real problem. I would absolutely recommend changing the door anytime you have to replace any other part. PartSelect is amazing...ordered the parts on Friday, had them in-hand on Sunday...all for less than $3.00 shipping. Will do business with again. Read more...

Dispenser actuator lever would not spring back to stop water flow or ice delivery.

Unplug refrigerator. Lift and remove cup tray, exposing the two screws. Remove both. Gently pry the plastic bezel/cover from the door facing. Remove the three screws securing the black dispenser/circuit board assembly. Carefully disconnect the three cables from the circuit board (remember how they were routed). Being careful not to lose the spring clip, remove the defective actuator. Place the spring clip on the new actuator post and reattach actuator to the black housing making sure to hook the rear spring clip hook into the hole behind it. Using pliers, pull the front spring clip hook up so that it catches on the assembly post. While the dispenser assembly is off, good time to clean up any dirt, grime, etc from the assembly and door facing. Replace the assembly by reconnecting the three cables and using the three screws. Carefully snap bezel/cover in place and secure with the two screws. Replace cup tray. Read more...

I discovered recently that the grille was removable. The protective coating had been removed because of using a scrub brush to remove hard water stains.
