latch on dispenser cover broke
Printed door assembly parts list and photo from KitchenAid website. (With the absence of instructions, it was a big help.) Remove door cover. You'll need a star driver bit. Remove the old dispenser. Note how the metal clamp and black cover sheet are positioned. Install the new dispenser. Insure the wiring harness is snapped in place. Replace the door cover. Not difficult; just some patience. One more hint ... be careful when taking the door cover off and you won't have to disconnect any other wiring.

Detergent and Rinse Aid Dispenser
I cleaned the gasket area with some 409 and a paper towel and slid the new dispenser into place. I used a 3/16" nutdriver to tighten the screws. I tightened the screws in a cross pattern in (3) stages so as not to squeeze the gasket out of position. Screw slowly and the screws will bottom out when the proper gasket tension has been achieved, don’t over tighten.
I closed the door and ran the dishwasher in rinse cycle checking for leaks. After a couple of minutes and no leaks I pushed the cancel and drain button. I folded the plastic cover back down over the dispenser and reinstalled the outer door cover tightening all screws with my electric screwdriver and torx bit. I opened the door and filled the rinse dispenser.
We've used the dishwasher several times since the repair and the dispenser has worked fine. Read more...

Dispenser worked intermittently
First, I brought in my electric screwdriver and torx bit set. The screws holding the door are torx type. I removed the screws holding the door cover allowing access to the (6) hex head screws holding the dispenser in place. Raising the plastic flap covering the dispenser I removed the (2) electrical plugs from the solenoid. Using my elec/screwdriver and a 3/16" socket I quickly removed the old dispenser.I cleaned the gasket area with some 409 and a paper towel and slid the new dispenser into place. Pin (Lid Hinge)
PartSelect Number PS11741308

The lid hinge pin or detergent lid pin on your dishwasher helps dispense your dish detergent when your dishwasher is running. The pin fits with the dispenser lid and allows the lid to pop open and dispense detergent. It is a small, plastic pin that is approximately 3 inches in length. Due to its small size, the pin can be damaged relatively easily, and if your pin is broken or missing, it will need to be replaced. This product is sold individually.

HAROLD from FISHERSVILLE, VA
Worn out spring on detergent release box lid
First, examine very carefully how the old spring relates to the detergent release box lid. Note that the top of the spring has a square-end upside down "U" . This rests on a small ledge on the detergent box. Also note that on either end of the spring is a straight extension of the spring wire. These two "legs" must rest on the inside of the edge of the detergent box. Second, use a flat blade screw driver to pry the LID hinge pin from the mounting "posts. Remove the pin, first noting the position of the spring. Reassemble the spring on the hinge pin in reverse order. Then snap the lid onto the spring using the two mounting "posts". NOTE: I used a very fine needle nose pliers to move the two spring "legs" behind the detergent box edge after I had mounted the lid. Flip the lid down to test if the spring pressure on the lid can be felt. Harold Kitzmann, Fishersville VA

dispenser didn't stay closed
Ordered new part and installed it. I found a repair manual online and the replacement was pretty easy. I removed 8 screws that held the outer door and the dispenser was sitting there looking at me. I disconnected the solenoid, pried apart two clips and the old dispenser came right out. Reversed the process to install the new one.

Dispenser was not dispensing
I first turned the power off to the dishwasher. I then used the star bit to loosen the screws on the sides and top. Note that the 4 top screws are longer than the side screws. Once the screws were loose I used a clamp on each side to hold the door cover in place. Once the screws were removed, I released the clamps, raised the door then lifted the outer cover off. I then peeled the insulation back from the top to expose the dispenser. I used a small socket to remove the screws for the dispenser. I released the plug with a small slotted screw driver. I then exchanged the dispenser with the new unit being careful to correctly reinstall the black cover over the top. I reinstalled the door cover, being careful to tuck the insulation back in place. I then installed the screws using the clamps to hold the door in place during the reinstall.

Soap Cup Latch Kit
You have to take off the nine star pointed screws. So you need a special screwdriver or I had a socket set of them and I used a ratchet to make it easier. I think there are nine of them around the base of the door. Then remove the door and set it on the counter. Flip it over and there is a small plastic cover that has to be removed from the back of it, and it is easily removed by gently pulling on it.
Now comes the difficult part. There is a locking piece on it that holds the latch onto the door by interlocking with a piece on the back side of the door. I took a pair of wire snips and just cut the old interlocking piece off. This way I didn't have to try and slide the two interlocking pieces apart.
When you go to put the new piece on before you interlock them make sure they are put on right. Specifically the latch is pointing the right way to seal the detergent door. Otherwise it can be a pain to separate the interlocking pieces again. (which is why I cut it off the old one).
Then you're done. Just put it all back together. Read more...
