It is supplied by the manufacturer and can be found at the bottom of the engine oil pan where the drain plug is installed. The gasket is responsible for sealing the area between the oil drain plug and the engine block to prevent oil from leaking during oil changes. Over time the gasket can wear down, corrode, or crack. If the gasket can no longer seal the area, oil will escape from the oil pan, leading to inadequate lubrication, increased friction, and engine damage. Before you begin the repair, drain the oil from the engine to prevent contamination. Use a wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Peel off the old gasket, and thoroughly clean the drain plug and oil pan surface. Install the new gasket and ensure that it sits firmly on the oil pan. Finally, reinstall the drain plug, and be careful to avoid overtightening it.
