The water inlet valve (Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve Kit) provides water for the ice maker and water dispenser. This part is located at the back of the refrigerator, and connects to the water supply. If your water inlet valve is malfunctioning, you could be getting a lack of water to the inside of your refrigerator. Your ice maker may not produce cubes or your water dispenser may not work. This breakage can occur from material fatigue or normal use, and is a sign the part should be replaced soon. The water inlet valve must be replaced if the solenoids no longer have continuity or the valve has internal blockage. The part measures approximately 6.5 inches long and 3 inches wide and is constructed of plastic and metal. It comes in blue/green/red.

The single water inlet valve, also known as a water solenoid valve, is used for refrigerators. This part is a solenoid-operated switch that releases water from the supply line to the water valve and into the icemaker mold when activated. No water feed to icemaker

To troubleshoot - Check water supply to valve. It f that's good - remove back plate, remove water valve reconnect inlet line, disconnect electrical connector, place valve over a pan with outlet fitting disconnected, temporarily connect 110 VAC with clipleads to water valve solenoid. No water flow means valve is not opening. To install new valve, connect outlet line, and wiring connector, then insert in cabinet and install 2 screws, reinstall back plate, connect water inlet line. Outlet valve housing was cracked and leaking water

Removed panel in back of fridge. Disconnected water line. Removed outlet valve housing and disconnected wiring. New part is a retro-fit and was modifiable to fit into same space as old part. Reconnected wiring and water line. Turned water back on to test. Checked water dispenser in front door panel. All good. Replaced panel and wheeled back into place. Read more...

The in-door water dispenser stopped working but the ice continued to work.

I first had to identify the faulty part. I ohms checked the micro switch in the door. It was fine. I traced the wiring to the inlet valve at the bottom of the rear of the unit. I checked the voltage to the solenoids and it was good. After checking the schematics on the Whirlpool website, I determined the only possible faulty part was the inlet valve. I found the correct part here on PartSelect and ordered it. When the part arrived I changed out inlet valves by turning off the water supply, unplugging the refrigerator, removing the two inlet valve mounting screws, and disconnecting the wire terminals. The inlet water line was a 1/2" compression nut and the water and ice outlets were hand turn compression nuts. I reversed the removal steps to install the new valve, turned the water on, checked for leaks, plugged in the refrigerator, and the new valve worked perfectly. The feeling of accomplishing a DIY project was only topped by a happy wife who really didn't want to spend the money on a new fridge! Read more...

This part is a solenoid-operated switch located at the bottom of the refrigerator. When the water inlet valve is turned on, water is released from the supply line through the water valve and into the compact icemaker mold. The kit includes the mounting hardware and bracket plastic tubing fittings. The retaining nut must be cut off the plastic water line and gently pushed into the new valve. To remove, press down on the ring that the tube slides into. Refer to the installation instructions for further guidance. Please note: the manufacturer has redesigned this part and it can appear different than the original. It has a new quick connection.

no water getting to ice maker

The ice maker had been slowly dying and one day just stopped making ice. No water was getting to the trays.

I read that this could be caused by a failure of the valve, even though the continuity test indicated that the solenoid was okay.

I ordered the part Friday afternoon. It was delivered Saturday. I did the repair in 10 minutes.

I pulled the fridge away from the wall.

I unplugged the fridge. I closed the water supply valve.

I unscrewed the two mounting screws using a flat head screwdriver.

I pulled the old valve out from refrigerator.

Using an adjustable wrench I detached the water supply from the valve. I detached the hose leading to the ice maker from the valve.

I pulled the electrical connectors from the connectors on the valve.

I attached the hoses to the new valve, attached the electrical connector, screwed the new valve in its place, opened the water supply, plugged the fridge back in, checked for leaks, and waited for a few hours.

My ice maker is working better than it has in at least two years. Read more...

Ice Maker Fill Tube Freezes Up

After a bit of troubleshooting it became obvious that the fill tube was freezing shut because the dispenser valve was not fully closing between fills. It was allowing small drops of water to creep into the fill tube where they would freeze as they entered the freezer compartment eventually plugging the tube shut. The fix was to replace the valve which was conveniently located on the back of the refrigerator in the lower right corner (where you attached the water inlet line from the house). After unplugging the refrigerator and shutting off the water outlet valve (in the wall), a small crescent wrench easily removed the inlet water line from the valve on the refrigerator. I then had to remove about five or six screws which held the black (cardboard like) flap which covered the valve. This cardboard is part of the overall cover that encompasses the entire back of the refrigerator. Two sheet metal screws (which held the valve to the refigerator frame) were then removed and the valve was easily pulled from the frame about three inches. At that point four electical (plug like) connections (they're grouped in twos) were easily pulled off, and the two water lines which feed the ice maker and the drinking water dispenser were easily removed using a pair of pliers (and fingers). To install the new unit, the aforementioned process was reversed and the unit has worked (and fixed the problem) perfectly! The only problem I encountered was that I had a small leak where you attach the water line from the wall to the new valve. This was fixed with some plumbers tape. Read more...

This access valve is an authentic manufacturer parts kit used in appliances with a refrigerant such as the refrigerator and air conditioner. This kit includes a valve body, valve core and a valve cap. The body and cap are made of brass while the core is made from steel. If you notice that your appliance is leaking, not cooling adequately and the valve components are corroded, you should replace the access valve. As part of your general maintenance, you should also replace the valve if your appliance is more than 10 years old and the valve has never been changed.
