This piston ring is a small metal ring in an engine that seals the gap between the piston and the cylinder wall. It prevents the escape of combustion gases and maintains compression. When damaged, oil will leak into the combustion chamber and cause performance problems within the engine. You may experience rough running and a loss of power or notice that blue smoke is coming out from the exhaust when this happens. To remove the piston ring from your machine, you need to detach the piston from the engine. Using a small screwdriver, pry the damaged piston ring away from the piston and slide it off. Be careful not to scratch the piston nor the cylinder walls during this process. You may also need to compress the ring to remove or install it onto the piston.
