How do I get to the latch to replace it?
For model number FGMV174KFA
Hi Owen,
Thank you for your inquiry. You will have to remove the trim piece that is on the backside of your door to expose this part. You will need a putty knife or a flat head screw driver. Gently pry off the trim on the outside edges. Pop it off from the clips keeping it attached. Once you have it out, you and just use your hands to pop the rest of the trim off. Good luck with your repair.

It feels like there is some kind of tension issue as if a spring is broken. Does this part include a mechanism (e.G. A spring) or would that be a separate part? Thanks.
For model number Frigidaire Gallery Microwave FGMV174KFB
Hello Dennis, Thank you for contacting us. Yes, there is a door latch spring available separately. The part number is PS979582. Hope this helps!

The Partselect website shows part number PS979580, black in color, for repairing the door latch of a Frigidaire microwave. However, the section of the latch that shows on my microwave is white, not black. Has the part changed color over the years, and do you think it is the correct part for my microwave?
For model number PLMV169DCA
Hello Mindy,
Thanks for your question. Yes, this part used to come in white but is now only black in color. It is the correct part for your model. Remember that only a licensed technician should install this part as the microwave's internal parts can contain high voltage electrical charges even when the microwave is unplugged.
I hope this helps.

When I close the door to the microwave the light stays on and sometimes it makes a sound as if it is still on. Do I need to replace the microwave or is this problem repairable?
For model number FGMV174KF
Hi Edward,
Thank you for your question. If the microwave sounds like it is still on when the door is shut, then the issue is one of the door switches and you will need to test them to see which one is causing the issue. Using a multimeter set to Rx1, ensure the button is depressed and touch the terminals with the meter’s probes, you should receive a reading of zero or nearly zero, indicating that there is continuity. Next, with the probes still touching the terminals, ensure the button is not pushed in, this test should indicate that there isn’t continuity. If your test results differ from those above, you will need a replacement door interlock switch. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Our microwave door does not close properly. Can be just pulled open so it is not engaging with anything. I am looking at the door latch here on this site, however how do I know it is the latch and not just a spring. I dont want to spend $80 if not necessary
Hello Mary, Thank you for the question. The only way to know for sure would be to remove the parts and check them for wear or damage. We hope this helps!

Is this a difficult replacement
For model number fgmv173kba
Hello Joyce, thank you for reaching out. We have some general instructions that may not be of the same model but will help you with the door latch replacement. To start the process, use a screwdriver to un-thread the screws securing the front vent. Next, use a putty knife to help pry off the vent. You can lift off the door set. After this, use a putty knife to help detach the inner door trim. After this, un-thread the screws securing the inner door assembly. Use a screwdriver to separate the inner door assembly from the outer door panel. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the old door latch spring if still intact. Install the new door latch spring by hooking it on the door latch and the inner door assembly frame. Realign the inner door assembly with the outer door panel and snap it into position. Follow the same steps backwards to put the door back on. We hope this information is useful!

How do you take the front door off?
For model number FGMV174KF
Hi Louis,
Thank you for your question. This is fairly easy repair to do. You will need a Phillips head screw driver and Torx 10 screw driver. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet or turn the circuit breaker off. Using the Phillip's head screw driver unthread the 2 screws securing the vent grille. Tilt the grille to release the tabs at the bottom of the grille and remove it. Using the Torx 10 screw driver take the top hinge screw out. Slide out the top of the door from the hinge and lift the door up off of the bottom hinge. Repeat the steps in reverse to install the new door and restore power to the microwave. The microwave should now work for you. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Latch and spring is fine, it is the spring eyelet connected to the door that has broken away.
For model number 5304440314 replaces: 1055405, AP3767935.
Hi Clayton,
Thank you for your question. If the eyelet connected to inner door panel has broken, you will need to replace the panel. To verify the correct part for you, we would need the model number from your microwave. Here is a link from our website that you may reference on where to find the model number on your appliance, https://www.partselect.com/Find-Your-Microwave-Model-Number.aspx. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
