Air Damper Control - 2 Switches 241600902

Hi Graham, Thank you for your question. The air damper, baffle or diffuser is the device that balances the air flow from the evaporator fan housing. This normally is a mechanically controlled baffle or flapper that controls the amount of cold air entering the fresh food compartment. If the baffle is damaged or the linkage to the control knob is damaged, then too much cold air may enter the fresh food compartment resulting in lower than normal temperatures. The baffle or damper will be located where the cold air enters the fresh food compartment. The housing that the baffle or damper is encased in is often made of plastic with a Styrofoam lining and may have a foam seal to prevent air leakage. Care should be used when inspecting the housing to avoid damage to the seal or the Styrofoam. Locate the baffle/damper and operate the control knob to verify that the linkage is intact and that it moves freely. If the damper/baffle is stuck in the open position or does not move freely, then it should be replaced. Some refrigerator models use a temperature sensing bulb attached to this control that will automatically adjust the control for changes in the interior temperature. Make sure that the sensing bulb is in the correct position and is not damaged. If you verify it is the air damper, please let us know and we will be happy to place the order for you. Hi Deborah, Thank you for the question. This sounds like it might be an issue with the Air Damper, PartSelect Number: PS977157. I suggest checking the damper to see if it is stuck open and allowing to much cold air through. The grinding noise could be the motor struggling to close the damper. Hope this helps!

Hello Fred, Thank you for the question . This model has an Air Duct, Part Number: PS11770119 and Air Damper,PartSelect Number: PS11770260 that is located on the back wall. I agree it sounds like the duct is not closing and allowing to much cold air through causing the temperature to be off in both sections. It might have a frost build up or something blocking it from operating properly. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

Hi Tchuzie, thank you for your question. When you are having temperature problems in your fridge, there are a few parts that could cause the issue. You can use a multi meter to test most of the parts. Make sure you cut power to your appliance before doing any repairs or tests. First you should test your defrost thermostat. Place the thermostat in ice cold water for 2-3 minutes after removing it from your appliance. It should be reading 0 ohms to be working correctly. Another part to check would be your defrost heater. Remove it from the appliance. It should be reading anywhere between 0 - 50 ohms to be working. You could check your temperature sensor. To find the correct reading for this part you will have to refer to your tech sheet that comes with your appliance. You can usually find this tech sheet behind the bottom grille of your fridge on either the right or left side. These are the most common parts that cause this issue in your appliance. If those parts are fine you may want to take a look at your evaporator fan motor. So it is suggested you check them first. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Hello Richard, Thank you for your inquiry. The motor is designed to come on when the temperature in the fridge rises above the set temperature. If it is constantly coming on, the fridge might be getting warmer than normal. We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: air damper control, temperature control thermostat, evaporator fan motor and blade, defrost thermostat, defrost heater, and defrost control board. Hello Joseph, thank you for your question. That could be an issue with the air damper, or the thermostats behind the control knobs that adjust the temperatures. There is also an adaptive control board back there that might not be cycle on to start the defrost cycle. If the unit is operating at the correct temperature,the thermostats are probably not the issue, we would recommend checking the damper to be sure its opening and closing properly. If the clicking continues you may want to check the defrost board. I hope this helps.

Hi Steve, thank you for your question. Unfortunately it could be either of those two parts and a couple of others that may be causing the issue. I would say take a look at your timer first but if that part is not the issue then you may have to also take a look at your defrost thermostat to make sure it is reading the correct temperatures and signalling all of the other parts correctly. If those parts are fine then you may have to look into your fan or even your control board being the issue. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
