Question:

I’m having problems with my dishwasher door. I recently replace the ropes and then I replaced the pulleys and yet the door is still flimsy and barely holding itself up. I need advice on how to move forward

Liam
Answer:

Hi Liam, based on your description you should check the springs on the door. It sounds like they are weak, which would cause the door to act that way. You should also check to see if the springs are in the right place on the base. Please let us know if you have any further questions!

Question:

So one of the links broke on my dishwasher and I have to buy this kit to fix it. I know the kit comes with 2. So my question is do I have to replace both or can I just save one for a rainy day?

Simon
Answer:

Hi Simon, although you do not have to replace both sides together, we do recommend doing so. This is because it will create an even wear, and the unbroken one has potentially been weakened. Best of luck with this repair!

Question:

My dishwasher is being the biggest pain!! I just recently had a repair man in here and I don’t want to do that again so i’m looking for help on how to fix it, or even just diagnose it. The door wont close properly and I think it has something to do with the alignment. Its not completely straight, and tbh looks a little lopsided. What should I do

Jade
Answer:

Hello Jade, by the sounds of things your dishwasher door has been lifted off the hinge pin. To fix it you must lift the door, and see if you can pop it back on to the hinge pin. If you are not able to, you may need to pull the unit outwards to access the hinge assembly. If you cannot get the door back onto the hinge pin, you may need to replace the hinge assembly because it may be damaged. I hope this helps.

Question:

The top drawer of the dishwasher will not stay in. What do I need to do?

Thomas for model number KUDS01DLWH6
Answer:

Hi Thomas, Thank you for the question. If the rack is coming off the end of the rails when you pull it out you will need to check the rack stops. The stops fit in the end of the rails that attach to the inside wall of the dishwasher and prevent the rack from coming all the way out and off the rails. Hope this helps!

Question:

What is the length of the cord on this part? I bought one from another place and it was too short.

Bob for model number KUDP02FRSS0
Answer:

Hi Bob, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately the manufacturer does not give us specifications on their parts. We have taken a picture of this part on a one inch grid background. Each half of the cord are approximately 12". I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Question:

I can't reattach the lower arm that sprays there isn't anything for it to clip onto. I have a Kenmore quiet guard

Sarah for model number 58715142400
Answer:

Hi Sarah, Thank you for the question, I suggest maybe checking the diagrams for your model number to see if you are missing any parts. There should be a Spray Arm Nut, PartSelect Number PS420799. Then there should be a Base Filter Part Number PS3655066 and then the Filter Ring, Part Number PS420499. These parts should fit all together. Hope this helps!

Question:

The dishwasher door is extremely heavy when lowering to put dishes in. What part would you suggest i need to fix the problem?

Deborah for model number 66513793K603
Answer:

Hi Deborah, Thank you for your inquiry. The door balance link kit is the most likely cause for this, I would also suggest checking your hinges and checking your door springs as well. Good luck with your repair.

Replaced hinge link

Pulled dishwasher from under counter, attached link to spring, hooked spring back into frame/chassis, threaded link through pulleys, attached other end of link onto door, reinstalled dishwasher under counter. All's well. Note-I purchased an extra link anticipating that the other one will fail. They're cheap enough.

Door spring link broken

1. Open the dishwasher and remove the two plastic grommets about halfway down on either side of the opening. Then remove the two screws under the grommets.

2. Remove the kick plate under the door. May have to lower unit by turning the feet using the adjustable wrench.

3. Make sure you have enough slack in the water input line and electrical wiring that you can pull the dishwasher out about 12 inches or more.

4. There is a spring and nylon rope link on both sides of the unit. Probably just one link is broken, but the replacement comes with two, so you can replace both or save one as a spare. Look at the good side and it should be pretty self explanatory how it attaches. I found it easiest to first thread the link around the lower pulley, then attach the link to the spring, then spring to the rear support, then the link to the door.

5. Reverse (2 to 1) to reinstall the dishwasher.

The door would drop open when it was released

This was the second time I had this problem so I knew the symptoms and remedy. The tools needed were two nut drivers a ¼” and 5/16” along with a flat pry bar and Phillips screw driver. I started by removing the lower front panel by removing the two ¼” screws on either side. The lower panel will lift up and then can be removed by pulling on the bottom. There is a flat sheet metal piece behind the front panel with insulation that can be removed very easily along with the front panel. When the front panel is removed it exposes the front legs that may need to be dropped to let you lift the dishwasher over the tile (if you have ceramic tiles). The next step would be to remove any ties to the counter top if it is attached. Mine were attached by the two straps on either side with Phillips screws. After the top is free, lower the front legs by lifting the dishwasher with the flat pry bar and threading the legs up into their holders. With the legs lifted the dishwasher can be pulled out to expose the tension springs located along the sides at the very bottom. Chances are the ropes are broken off the plastic holders that fit over the door hooks.
Remove the plastic guides by removing the 5/16” nut from the middle of the lower roller. Remember to note which hole the screw is coming from this also sets the tension for how fast or slowly the door drops. Placing the nut closer to the front will drop the door slowly and toward the back will drop the door more quickly. I placed mine in the middle hole. When the plastic guides are removed attach the nylon pope to the spring and attach to the back of the dishwasher. There is a hole located on a flat piece of sheet metal the spring will attach to at the back of the dishwasher (if it is broken). Check the other side if it is still in tact. With the spring in place weave the rope around the plastic guides then pull the springs to help get the plastic end over the door hook located at the bottom of the door. Repeat this operation for the other side (kit has a both sides covered) and reinstall dishwasher in cabinet.
Steps
1) Remove front panel (1/4” nut)
2) Release Dishwasher from Cabinet
3) Lower front legs
4) Pull Dishwasher out from under Cabinet
5) Remove Rope Guide (5/16” nut)
6) Install new Rope Guide (Supplied in Kit)
7) Attach new rope to Spring and attach spring to dishwasher
8) Weave rope through rope guide
9) With door closed pull spring to relieve tension so rope can be attached to door
10) Repeat for other side (Kit has both sides)

The nylon cord broke on one side of the door.

Ordered the parts on your site since I could find a parts schematic that really helped. I had to move the unit out and replace the spring on one side. We replaced both nylon cords since the other was showing a little wear. Received the parts quickly and made the repair the same day.

Dishwasher door falls down as soon as it is unlatched and moved just a few inches open

This kit comes with the link cords and the balance wheels. I only needed the cords. I undid the set screws under the counter edge and slid the Dishwasher out from under the counter. One of the links had a broken cord and the spring had snapped to the very back of the space and was a bit hard to find. I used the good side as a guide to see how to thread the cord correctly. I did not replace the wheels since they appeared to be in good shape and looked like they might be a bit more difficult to replace than just the cord. For a second I thought I had ordered the wrong part because the new cord's attachment point at the hinge did not look exactly like the originals but the new design worked just like the original. I did need one other person to help stretch the spring and hold the door in the best position so I could attach the cord to the hinge. It's working perfectly now and I saved the wheels in case I need them later.

Pump/motor assembly make making loud noise & door balance cable broken

I removed the dishwasher from under the cabinet. This is what took the most time. Before removing the dishwasher from under the cabinet I disconnected the drain cable to remove all the water from unit. After removing the dishwasher I tipped the unit on its left side. The motor/pump assembly is held in with one screw. After removing this screw the pump/motor assembly comes out with a 1/8 turn counter clock wise. The replacement pump/motor assembly was put back in in reverse order. After the pump/motor assembly was replaced I replaced the door balance cable kit on the right side of the unit. Next I tipped the unit on to its right side and replace the left balance cable kit. After this all that was left was to return the unit back under the cabinet and hook up the water supply line, the drain line, and the power.

Door would fall when opened.

Turned off water supply and electricity, removed the front kick panel on the dishwasher. Disconnected the water supply line, removed the two screws above the door securing the dishwasher to the underside of the countertop. Pulled the dishwasher out from under the counter, replaced the spring and balance link for each side. I found that the new balance link kit that I purchased was better engineered that the origanal equipment.

Noisy door

I found instructions on line when I goggled my dishwasher name and model number with the words noisy door. There were three or four good suggestions at a couple of the sites I visited. I tried applying vasoline, then silicone to the rope where it travels through the plastic guides but that just cut the sound down about 50%. My dishwasher has plastic guides that look like rollers but they don't turn, they are fixed in place. The ropes squeak as the pass over the guides. The replacement part kit has plastic guides that turn like wheels now so the rope does not drag over them and squeak. This repair could be done by me in 20 minutes or less every time now that I know what I am doing.

I removed the black bottom metal cover then turned the nuts on the adjusting (leveling) bolts to lower the front end of the dishwasher so I could pull it out of the cabinet. Once I lowered is as low as it would go I opened the door and pushed down on it which tilts the dishwasher down and you pull out on it and the top lip clears the cabinet. If your dishwasher just pulls out the first time you try these steps may not be necessary.
Once the dishwasher is out the guides and rope are down at the bottom in the front by the door. It's obvious what to do to replace them.

Replace soap dispenser and door balance kit

Need torx to remove front panel. There are four screws that hold the control panel that don't need to be removed. If you do remove them, it helps to put the control panel back before you reinstall the front. The six screws that hold the soap dispenser are a very small hex (<1/4, maybe 3/16). It would help to have some small sockets or nut drivers handy for this.

The door balance is easy.
