I was cleaning the cooktop with the knobs off. I think water got into the switch housing because the igniters were going non stop. I thought i had it dried off but when i plugged it back in the started up again and then a big Flame came out of one of the switches. It looks like all 5 are connected in one housing. My question is how do i get at it? From below? There's a pan under the cooktop that seems bolted in. Do i take this off and then somehow pry those 5 things off the gas prongs? (sorry, i probably have all the wrong names for these parts). Thanks!

Hi Catherine, Thank you for your inquiry. I have found a repair story on our website from a customer who installed the part. "Do not remove the gas line. Take off the burner racks and burner covers Gently extract/remove the ignitors from each burner. You may have to use pliers, but be careful. They are ceramic. Once you pull out the ignitors, you can remove the ignitors from their wires using plyers, you may have to twist them a little. To take off the top - use Star screw drivers to remove the burners Remove all the burners. The star screws, and the burners are the only thing holding the top on. Take off the steel top. That exposes the ignitor switch assembly. Make sure you follow the positioning diagram that comes with the new part. Thats it really. I removed the gas, because I thought I had to, but you don't need to. You can do the whole job in 30 minutes if you are careful." I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hi, i shorted out the igniter switch harness and replaced it. Now 4 of the 5 igniters keep clicking as long as the cooktop is plugged in. The burners will light but only 4 of the 5 will. After the 4th is lit, the clicking stops. This happens if i light left to right or right to left. I bought a new igniter module and swapped it out but that didn't fix the problem. I think either the new switch harness or the new module is bad. Any ideas? I hate to bring a repair guy in! Thanks, cathy

Hi Cathy, Thank you for your inquiry. I would try the spark igniter switch and harness assembly, but if this does not work you will need to get a technician to come in and look at the appliance. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Two igniters inoperable due to bad igniter switches

There are already some very good instructions for this repair on the website - I followed them as written. I recommend going through the instructions carefully first to make sure you have everything you will need and so you know what to expect. Also, if practical I recommend you do the disassembly before ordering the parts so you know exactly what you need. A couple of burner gaskets got messed up during disassembly, so I decided to replace them and ordered a couple along with the harness assembly. A couple of the igniters were difficult to disconnect from the wiring and I was afraid I was going to break some, but managed to get them off intact. The replacement harness assembly didn't look just like the old one that I removed and at first I thought I'd have to exchange it. Check the paper that comes in the box with the harness and it will show how the new one goes on. Everything went back together easily and all igniters are operating.
