Refrigerator Water Filter Specifications

This OEM filter is sold individually. Change your filter every 6 months for the best results. This filter is found in top-freezer and bottom-freezer refrigerators located in the back upper right corner. It measures 4.75-Inches deep, 9.5-Inches high, and 5.25-Inches wide. It is certified to reduce particles, chlorine-resistant cysts, lead and five other impurities. The pressure requirement is 40-120 PSI (if yours exceeds this, you?ll need to install a pressure-timing valve), and the operating temperature needs to be 33-100 degrees Fahrenheit. It filters down to 0.5-1 microns. The installation is simple and does not require any tools or mess. To remove the old cartridge, turn it to the left and pull down carefully. Some water might drip, so keep a cloth handy. To install the new filter, place it into the cartridge holder and turn to the right until it will no longer turn. If you have a top-freezer model it should be situated vertically, and if it is a bottom-freezer model, it should be placed horizontally. Be careful not to over-tighten. If your model has a replacement indicator light, reset it by pushing and holding it down for three seconds. If your model has a dispenser, run water through it for approximately 3 minutes to clear the system. Please note that this filter will not work in Kenmore brand models.

Water Filter had not been replaced since new
Of course I had to order the filter and upon receiving it I installed the new one in about a couple of minutes. Even though my fridge doesn’t have a water dispenser it does make ice. Removed all the old ice from tray and disposed of it cause it was getting a bad taste to it. I let the tray fill up with ice once and disposed of the ice. After it filled up a second time I tasted the ice and had a very good clean taste. And my lesson is I need to replace filter at least once a year I think would be sufficient. That’s all there is to it, simple !!!

Water filter light came on in my refrigerator.
Opened the water filter sleeve on the inside of my refrigerator. Removed the old water filter cartridge. It was a little stuck so I used a pliers to turn the cartridge counterclockwise. The old cartridge slipped out. I inserted the new cartridge and turned it in clockwise until it "clicked." Closed the water filter sleeve. Reset the button on my fridge. All set to go.

My fridge currently has a gswf filter in it, but the red "filter reset" light is on, and won't reset, so i went to lowe's and the guy sold me a "mswf" filter. Will that work?
For model number PFS22MISBWW

Hello Don, Thank you for writing. I do not believe the two filters are compatible. The threads on the GSWF appear thinner than those on the MSWF. The only filter GE lists for your model is the GSWF. Thank you again for your great question.

I bought GE filter but the hole is too small to fit. There is a lining in the hole. Could it be remove so it will fit ? I replace this filter many times and never had problem with fitting.

Hi Rochana, Thank you for the question. If the filter is not fitting I suggest checking the part number on the filter to ensure the filter is correct. You shouldn't have to remove anything in order for the filter to fit. Hope this helps!

I replaced dual water regulator. Water depenses thru inside refridge but no water going into ice maker.I followed troubleshooting in manual to no results

Hello and thank you for writing. So you replaced the water inlet valve with part number PS304374? Did you also replace your water filter lately with an OEM filter PS951515, not an aftermarket one? And you still have no water going to the ice maker? So somewhere there is a blockage. We suggest to try a hard reset first : Go to your breaker box and shut the breakers for your unit off, wait 5 minutes and then turn the breaker to on again. That should hopefully clear this problem. if that does not help you would have to trace the lines to see if there is a crack or clog somewhere. We hope this helps. Please contact us anytime if you require further assistance.

Can you tell me how i gain access to install this water filter. Your diagram shows it being in the back of the refrigerator, but i am unsure if i need to open up the back or if it is accessed from the outside of the refrigerator. Please advise.
For model number PTS22SHSARSS
PartSelect logo
Hi Steve, Thank you for your question. You will have to remove the filter housing to get at the filter. Once you have that removed, it is just a matter of twisting the filter off and screwing your new one back into place. Usually the housing is located inside of the fridge. It would be the same procedure if your housing is on the outside or inside of your appliance though. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
