What would cause code 5y cf to be on the main control board?
For model number FFHB2740PS1
Hello and thank you for writing.
When your Frigidaire refrigerator displays the SY( not 5y) Cf error code, this means there is a communications issue. This communication problem is caused by either a wiring issue, wire harness PS3492994 ( there are 4 harnesses to check) issue, faulty control board PS9495123, or a bad user interface board, you should check the part(s) for signs of damage, and replace as necessary. We hope this helps. Please contact us anytime if you require further assistance.
I’m trying to diagnose a Frigidaire refrigerator. The evaporator coil and fan behind the ice maker, at the top left hand side inside the refrigerator, is working. The evaporator coil is frosting over in that section. So, the condenser, coil, and fan in the back of the fridge are at least cooling that evaporator coil.
The problem seems to be the large evaporator coil in the freezer section is not getting cold. The fan in that section works. The defrost heater and defrost thermostat have tested good. There are no error codes being given. The thermistor is reading correctly.
Would this be a control board issue?
Also, there is an ice ball that has been forming on the backside of the refrigerator. This seems to be forming directly behind the drain for the ice maker evaporator. I did pull the ice maker apart and found large pieces of ice in the drain that I broke up and removed. This may be unrelated, but the ice ball was noticed around the same time the cooling issues began. Although, the rust behind the ice ball makes me think this is not a new issue.

Hello Mike, thank you for your inquiry. If the evaporator is working, then the reason may be that the Door Seals may need to be replaced. Or, that the items in the freezer may be too congested and restricting air flow. You can test the Main Control board with a multimeter. We have a video on how to use the multimeter for your convenience. We hope this helps.

I am getting an code error and I cannot reset it, the display shows 5y CF.
For model number FFHB2740PS1
Hi Melvin,
Thank you for your question. The 5y CF error code is letting you know that there is a communications failure at power up. You will need to check the connections between the main electronic control board and the user interface. If they are fine, you will need to check the boards for signs of damage or burn marks. If they show any of these signs, you will need to replace them. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.
