I replaced my original timer with this one about a year ago and the plastic shaft on the timer has began to round off making the knob unable to turn the timer. If i replace the timer again is there a way to make sure this won't happen again a year from now? Thank you
For model number DRSR483GG7WW
PartSelect logo
Hi Jake, Thank you for your question. The only thing that you can do is make sure not to be too forceful while turning your knobs. Unfortunately the manufacturer makes that shaft out of plastic and it will wear eventually. How fast it wears is determined on how much the appliance is used and how much force is being put on turning the knob. Good luck with your repair.

Timer switch will not move on its own, have to play with it , to get it to heat up, it feels like switch is not engaging properly, is this common with switch going bad or is it more likely something else, have to find right adjustment to get it to heat mode.

The dryer doesn't turn off automatically. Do i need to replace the timer?
For model number DWSR463EG7WW
PartSelect logo
Hi Willie, Thank you for your question. There are a couple of parts that you will want to look at. I would suggest taking a look at your door switch, your thermostats, and your timer as being the likely parts. You can test them all with a multi meter to be sure. Good luck with your repair.

How do you remove and reinstall the timer assembly in the dryer? I have the back assembly removed but removing the timer assembly from the back is ???
For model number GTDP490GD1WS
PartSelect logo
Hi Vernon, Thank you for your question. Here is some information that a customer posted on our website that you may reference on how to install the timer, "Turned off the electrical breaker to the dryer. Removed the three screws holding the control panel. Removed the old knob. Tilted the control panel forward to expose the wiring and controls. Removed the screw holding the old timer and loosened the timer - leaving the wires hooked up. Then I removed one wire at a time and reconnected to the corresponding terminal on the new timer until all of the wires were connected to the new timer. Replaced the timer and re-assembled the control panel on the dryer - turned the electric breaker back on." I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Dryer timer operation was restricted causing multiple broken (plastic) knobs.
Turned off the electrical breaker to the dryer.
Removed the three screws holding the control panel. Removed the old knob. Tilted the control panel forward to expose the wiring and controls. Removed the screw holding the old timer and loosened the timer - leaving the wires hooked up. Timer Would Not Turn - Broke Knobs
The hardest part of this repair was determining which parts to buy. The PartSelect website did not list this particular model dryer. But the GE site did. I confirmed that the G2WW and the G3WW models used the same parts on the GE site and then purchased them at the PartSelect site. I saved almost 20% and the parts arrived the next day. The actual repair job was easier than I thought. Replace wire for wire, take the old timer off and snap the new one in place. Works perfectly.

Broken dryer timer
I called a repair guy from a well thought of city appliance store. Guy gives me a price of $250 to repair. I let him know I only paid about $350 for the dryer. Guy tells me he can sell me a new dryer. Did my search and found the part with Part Select for around $50. Delivery was quick and installation easy. At around $200 for a 10 min installation, I may start my own service company.

Dryer Timer did not select proper time setting
Pulled Timer knob off. Realized at that time it was just the knob slipping on the shaft of the dryer timer. Removed six screws on back panel of control knobs. Removed and replaced one wire at a time from old to new dryer timer. Put new dryer time in place and reinstalled back panel. I replaced knob with one of the four that I never use. I replaced timer just because I had it.

The knob is worn out
Just remove 3 screws at the back and tilt the panel forward and you got access to the timer control and match the corresponding letters to the wires and that's it done.
