You will attach the spring to the idler pulley arm then using pliers or a piece of string tied to the other end of the spring you will move it into place and attach it to the frame. These springs can be difficult to install and require some muscle. I hope this helps and good luck with your repair.

Hello Daniel, thank you for your question. We found a testimonial for a similar model that should be of some help for you. "Removed the mower deck. Identified where spring needed to be attached. hooked the spring into the idle assembly and then made a folded the string in half and ran it through the hole where the other end of spring was to hook. Hooked other end of spring into string and pull on string until the spring was hooked in hole where it went. Reattached the mower deck. Job was done." We hope this helps.
