Cold air is blown into the fridge side from the freezer at the top vent, but i feel that it stops blowing too soon as my fridge never gets below 40 degrees (even on the fridge's coldest setting). Would replacing the "cold control" likely fix this problem? Is there a way that i could test the current fridge thermostat (i.E. What should its resistance be at various temperatures)? Thanks for the help.

Hi Jared, Thank you for your inquiry. You would be able to test this part with a multi-meter. You would have to do this test with the part removed from the appliance and at room temperature. If the multi-meter reads zero while you are testing the part, then it is bad and will need to be replaced. There are some other parts that you might want to look into. Check to see if there is a lot of frost build up on your evaporator coils. If there is, then you will need to check your defrost thermostat and your defrost heater. There will be frost on your coils but it should be an even and thin layer. If that all checks out, I would also suggest check the damper that is between the fridge and the freezer section, to make sure that part is still working correctly. I hope this helps. Good luck with your repair!

My fan turns on and off constantly. I was told it's the controller. Do i need just the temp controller or do i need the temp control thermostat. Or both? Thanks brian

Hi Brian, Thank you for the question. The Adaptive Defrost Control Board, PartSelect Number PS2582247 controls the operation of the fan motor. I suggest replacing the Adaptive Defrost Control Board. Hope this helps!

My freezer will not go below 37 degrees with the thermostat set to coldest position. If i dial the knob back, the freezer will warm up accordingly. I put the knob back to coldest and i get 37 degrees again. I unplugged it overnight, checked for frost on the evap coils, checked the condensing coils fan and thoroughly cleaned the condensing coils. It will hold a steady 37 all day long but that's it.

Hi Michael, Thank you for your question. I would suggest checking your run capacitor and your start relay to see if they are working correctly. It sounds like it may be one of those parts. You can test them with a multi meter to be sure though. If they are both fine, then you may want to also start taking a look and testing your temperature sensors inside of your fridge. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My air damper was broken so I replaced it, after replacing it now constantly opens and closes, never stops, I believe this is why the original broke, should I replace the cold temp control? If so which one is it, I'll order it from your site.

Hi Mike, Thank you for the question. It would more then likely be the control for the fresh food section. The refrigerator temperature control, supplies power to the damper motor and controls the air flow into the fresh food section. Hope this helps!

How do you get the console out that holds the cold control? It seems to be all one piece with the water filter assembly. There are all sorts of videos on everything but this model.

Question: Replaced defrost t-stat... no ice buildup on evap, evap fan runs fine. no change in operation. can you see my last ? where i described the symptoms? nothing has changed, freezer @ approx 0*f (with t-stat set at warmest temp...ccw) and fridge t-stat is turned off and fridge slowly creeps down to 35*f.... that is when i leave the door open to warm it up a bit. bob thanks for answering my question and suggesting that i check the defrost t-stat. (ps469522). can i get a drawing of the location in the fridge? i would guess it is in the freezer side on or near the evaporator. thanks, bob bob for model number frs6hr5jb4

Hi Bob, Thank you for your question. If the refrigerator is still warm, there are some other parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the adaptive defrost control board, the run capacitor, the defrost heater, the temperature control, the air damper and the fresh food door gasket. If you are looking for the location of the defrost thermostat, you can enter your model number onto our website and you can reference the cabinet diagram for information. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The fridge is not too warm. It is on the verge of being too cold. The fridge thermostat is turned full to the off position because the fridge stays about 36-37 degrees. The freezer thermostat is at the warmest setting right next to the off position, and maintains 0 degrees with the compressor cycling on and off. I am puzzled why the freezer is so cold when a month ago the thermostat (freezer) was on 5-6 and maintaining 0 degrees. Can you help?

Hello Bob, Thanks for your question. The freezer may be too cold due to a few different reasons. The air damper control could be failing to close properly, and if so that could cause the freezer to be too cold. It may also be worth checking the freezer door gasket to see if it is intact. I hope this helps.

Symptom..fridge would not go below 40*f. Replaced cap tube and t-stat on fridge controller. Now fridge is so cold I have turned off the fridge temp controller full ccw to stop. Now fridge maintains about 37*f. Freezer is 0*f +or minus 3 deg but is set at the warmest setting. Full ccw. evap fan delivers plenty of air to freezer and a small amount leaks into fridge. Condenser is clean and fan runs fine, cardboard is in place on back of unit. When fridge is at 37 I can turn fridge controller full cw and nothing happens, but leave fridge door open for 10 min and as soon as I move the t-stat the comp comes on and the louvers open to deliver cold air. My guess is the freezer cap tube and controller. Your thoughts? thx, bob

Hi Bob, Thank you for the question. I suggest testing the Defrost Thermostat Kit, PartSelect Number PS469522. The best way to do this is to remove the thermostat from the refrigerator so you can control the temperature of the sensor. You can let the sensor warm up to room temperature. With the sensor warmed up to room temperature the sensor should read approximately 6.2K Ohms at 68°F. With the thermistor submerged is a glass full of ice water, the sensor should be very close to 32°F which should read approximately 16.3K Ohms. If the values that you are getting are far off from these readings, then the sensor is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps!
