Loud banging/thumping noise when dryer was running. Bearings on tub rollers worn out. Poor design.
Could tell from the sound it was making that it was related to drum rotation. Searched online videos on how to disassemble this model GE Dryer. The Dryer drum rides on 4 rollers. 2 of the 4 of mine were very noticeably loose and made a similar noise when I spun them by hand. Simply replace the rollers and re-assembled.

Have this 2 year old dryer that has developed a knocking sound. Does always make the noise and is not due to particular item being inside. Knocking sound seems to be in sync with the drum rotation. The dryer works in all other respects and the sound is knock like and not squeak-like noise. Not sure, but does this dryer rotate in cw and ccw direction or in just one direction. If it went in both directions it might be rotation specific but i haven't watched the rotation and when the noise is being made well enough to make that claim

Hello Patrick, thank you for your question. The drum should only turn one way, clockwise. The knocking sound could be coming from the rollers, belt, or the idler pulleys. There are two idlers on the unit, the left and right side. I would recommend checking the aforementioned parts for wear and tear, or breakage. I hope this helps!

Your first reply said my problem could be roller, belt, idler but my dryer should only rotate in one direction. However, i watched very carefully and it does rotate cw and ccw. The clunking noise only happens when rotating ccw

Thank you for your question. The clunking sound you are hearing could be a result of a flat spot on one of the drum support rollers. There could also be an issue with drum. You will also need to check to see if the dryer is level. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Loud noise while dryer is running

Hi Penelope, thank you for getting in touch. First, we would recommend making sure that the dryer is level, and the load is balanced. If that is not causing the issue, then you may need to check the roller wheel assembly, part number PS8756654, as it is most likely worn out or damaged and may need to be replaced. I was told by two different repair people that the dryer needs 2 new rollers. My problem is that they gave me different part numbers and i don't know which one is right. Can you tell me the correct part number and if it is okay to replace 2 back rollers and not all 4. I am 68 and on very tight budget. I can't afford mistakes.

Dryer makes thumping noise while running. I think it's the tub rollers. I don't know how to get access to them.
