Easy repair for a GE wall oven with the F96 Error code
My GE Wall oven was throwing a F96 error code, which indicates the upper cooling fan was not working. This fault disabled both halves of our dual oven wall unit. Because I was digging into the unit and that was a bit of work, I also bought the temperature sensor module as well to avoid having to pull the unit out twice if the fan was not the actual problem.
Part select had the part(s) I needed and I did pay a few dollars to expedite the shipping. I ordered on a Sunday and the parts arrived on Tuesday.
The wall oven is a heavy beast but with help from a friend it was removed and the rest of the repair was easy. You have to remove a number of panels on the back to get to the part, but it was not too hard to figure out. The old fan motor was indeed bad, I could feel it not spinning freely as it should.
The new parts were a perfect fit and the repair was quickly accomplished. Hefting the beast back in the whole and connecting the wring up was all the rest of the work needed to complete the job.
This job is easy if you have someone to help you lift the unit in and out. Other than that it just took a nut driver to disassemble/reassemble the oven and replace the parts. The cost of the parts were way cheaper than calling someone out on a service call.
I have used PartsSelect on two repairs now and I will use them again should I have another problem. I really like that they confirm you are ordering the right part for your appliance, show you the detailed diagrams and there is also a community of users that comment on the the problems and parts.
Thanks!

part was fine but not a easy place to get to. Had to take out the whole oven to get to it.
The part I received was great. It was exactly the same GE part that was in the system.

Error code F96
Very straight forward repair except for removal of the fan mount plate. There are 4 sheet metal screws, 2 of which are obvious and shown in the appliance diagrams, and 2 of which are neither on the appliance diagram nor obvious. These screws are beneath the motor assembly and oriented with the heads between the mounting plate and the to

p of the oven - about a 3/8 inch gap. Removal was accomplished using a 1/4 inch open end wrench strictly by feel as there is no sight line. Not all that challenging, but still a pain. On reassembly, these screws were reversed so that the head is now on the top of the plate and more accessible.

F96 failure code soon after oven is turned on
Removed the top and back covers using a nut driver. Removed fan which is on top of the unit. Installed fan sensor board on new fan using torx bit (board can also be swapped from the old fan if you feel this isn't part of the problem). Installed new fan into oven and replaced the covers.
