Microwave door switch
My part was the part I ordered and it went in as expected. It worked for about a week and then it quit working again. I haven't had the time to take it apart again to see if the part is what failed this time. I will take it apart again this week and let you know.

Can this door switch cause the microwave to trip the circuit breaker? Breaker is dedicated to the microwave. The breaker trips in the 1st second of operation! The existing switch does not have any open-close movement? Just a hard spongy feeling when pushed in?Any help will be appreciated! Thank you.

Hi Doug, Thank you for the question. If the microwave is tripping the breaker it is usually because it is pulling to much amperage.I suggest testing the High Voltage Capacitor.Hope this helps!

Microwave keep blowing fuse when i close the door. Is the middle switch a normally close or open. If one of the thermal fuse in front of the control panel is bad can that also cause the problem.
For model number JVM3160RF2SS
Hi Stephan, thank you for your question. Your door switches can be both open and closed. When the switch is actuated by the button that you see on the side, it will be in the NO (Normally Open) position, and when it is not activated it will be in the NC (Normally Closed position). It could cause the problem. I would suggest testing your switch with a multi meter to make sure it is working correctly. If it is, you may have to go on to look at your fuse, diode, and capacitor. You must be careful when looking at those parts. If you do not properly discharge the capacitor before doing repairs you could be dangerously shocked. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My microwave will not turn off when i close the door. Its not heating just lights and fan running. It started giving us fits a few weeks ago and you could only close the door a certain way to get it to stop. Now it just wont stop. The control buttons will not work either. Have any ideas?
For model number JVM1630WK01
Hello Don, Thank you for the question. I suggest checking the Latch Broad, Part Number: PS1019899 for damage or wear. There is also a Lever Release, Part Number: PS1016159 to check for damage. If they check out good, you can test the switches with a multi meter. The switches are Part Number: PS8754454, Part Number: PS8754455 and Part Number: PS1019163. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

My 1 yr old GE otc micro is tripping a dedicated 20amp breaker when we open the micro door during cooking. If we wait for the micro to finish its cycle, no problem . However, last night the micro will now trip the breaker "immediately whenever started". Micro switch or breaker failure?
For model number JVM3160DF4WW
Hi Chuck,
Thank you for your question. If the microwave is tripping the breaker either the microwave is malfunctioning and pulling too much electrical current or you have too many electrical appliances, including the microwave, plugged into the same circuit. Try plugging the microwave into a different outlet to see if the same thing happens. If it trips the breaker than the issue is caused by a part inside the microwave. It could be the micro switches causing this and you will need to check the parts to see which one is causing the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

My microwave died - no control panel lights, no heating. I took the panel off and found the thermostat (thermal fuse) on the right was blown, so I will replace it. But then I tested the door micro switch monitors. The top and bottom are normally closed and tested correctly. But the middle (2nd from bottom) tested open even though it is marked "normally closed". So, I figured that was broken. But some online videos say that middle switch should be "normally open". Perhaps my microwave was installed incorrectly with a "normally closed" at the factory -- I find that hard to believe, and it has worked for 4 years. My question is, should the middle switch be "normally closed" or "normally open"?
For model number JVM3160DF3WW
Hello Larry, Thank you for the question. The Switch depends on the model. Some are normally Closed and others Normally Open. The one for your appliance should be Normally Closed. We suggest replacing the Switch. We hope this helps!
