The p-trap drain tube kit may also be known as the duck bill, or the drain pipe, and it is compatible with your refrigerator. The function of the p-trap drain kit is to carry the water that has formed during the defrost cycle to the bottom of the refrigerator, where your drain pan is located. The tools you will need for this repair include a 1/4-inch nut driver and a small flat-blade screwdriver. To do this repair you will need to pull the refrigerator forward in order to reach the lower access panel at the back. This kit includes the tube extension piece and spacer.

Solved My Problem
This P-Trap looks different and works differently than the water slide it replaced but it performs wonderfully. It's been a month since I installed it and there is no longer water in the bottom of my freezer. The water used to appear again only a day after I dried the evaporator coil in the freezer compartment. Not anymore. This is a technically superior solution compared to the water slide it replaces. The trap prevents hot air in the motor compartment from entering the freezer while simultaneously allowing water to drip out. It snaps into place and stays there without glue or fasteners. Its large diameter prevents clogging - which was the problem with the water slide. The trap stays warm by virtue of residing in the motor compartment, so it does not freeze. All in all, it is a better solution.
However, this repair project is not for the faint of heart. It took me an hour to remove the water slide then install the P-Trap, plus another two hours to dry the evaporator coil.
This part fits my Kitchenaid refrigerator perfectly. It is the right solution but it takes determination to dig inside the back of the machine. Be sure to watch the video.

Worked great!
I was able to easily install the P trap drain tube using the video. I am a 60 year old woman with no repair background. The freezer works great now with no more water frozen on the bottom and leaking out! I paid a repair man $160 and it still leaked. This is exactly what i needed. If I can do it, anyone can!

My fridge slightly different electrical assembly than P-Trap Drain Tube Kit installation video showed, but video was useful.
P-Trap Drain Tube Kit received quickly. installation took ~15 minutes.... Happened 4 days ago. Lets go see if there's still an ice sheet at the bottom of the ice box...
Yep. I imagine we'll start finding water on the floor again soon.
Update: Finally fixed. All that was needed was to turn off the refrigerator cooling system for 2 days. Apparently needed to thaw out an Ice Dam formed in the defrost coils. Didn't disassemble, just put freezer items in another freezer, and let the freezer get to 50 degrees F while adding Ice to the upper fridge so things would not spoil. This information should be added to the P-Trap Drain Tube Kit installation instructions.

Easy repair but a critical instruction from the video is missing
The P-Trap replacement did solve our freezer leaking problem eventually, however, we almost ended up unnecessarily replacing the ice maker because the freezer continued to leak after we replaced the P-Trap. After much searching through other you-tube videos, we found one that advised that prior to replacement of the P-Trap that the freezer be completed defrosted and all ice removed, which was not discussed in the repair video on the website. We had removed the ice that had accumulated in the freezer bottom, but it would appear that an ice dam had built up behind the rear vent in the freezer cabinet (where we couldn't see it) and near the P-Trap and was not allowing the water to go down the trap. Once we ensured all of the ice was removed, the P-Trap performed as advertised. Also, it was difficult to get the new spacer onto the stub that extended into the lower compartment and we found that just a bit of Vaseline on the inside of the spacer made it easier to install.

Part delivered as advertised, easy install and solved problem.
I went to PartSelect to purchase a replacement for the ice maker which I thought was the cause of the water in the bottom of the freezer. I decided to take their trouble shooter and it said that the problem was the P-Trap Drain. I read other reviews and their experience mirrored mine. I bought the kit and after a very easy install the problem is repaired. Great experience.

condensation line backing up freezing in freezer compartment. ice maker freezing up into inlet tube.
replaced condensation tube with upgrade thawed freezer compartment so outlet hole was free of ice. that means pulling back compartment open to verify the hole is indeed free of ice. the ice maker on the other hand was freezing up solid, replaced solenoid config. as recommended by the tech. still same scenario. turned freezer temp up as fa
... Read morer as it would go past recommended temp, which is 4 above zero F. still same results water cup that feeds the tray freezes solid then water runs all over a freezes until you cant get the tray out to work on it. moral to that story it didn't work.
The frost free drain behind the freezer compartment clogged and water collected in the bottom of the freezer and eventually came out the door on the right front of the refrigerator.
The other instructions and the video provided by Parts Direct are pretty good with instructions, but they omit two steps. First, if you have an ice maker, you will need to unplug the connector on the back side of the panel you remove at the back of the refrigerator to access the drain tube. Just unplug it and you can move the removed pa
... Read morenel to the side without disconnecting any of the water lines. Second, the instructions say to just reconnect the "bottom end" of the new p-trap drain to the drain pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. They don't tell you there are two places to connect the new p-trap to the drain pan. The original tube/trough connected to the one at the back of the drain pan on the left (viewed from the rear of the refrigerator). At first, it looks like the new p-trap won't reach to it for the connection, but if you look closer, there is another connector to the right of the original one that the p-trap connects to properly. Replacing the drain trough with the new p-trap was actually pretty easy and would only take about a half hour. Add another half hour to give the refrigerator coils a good cleaning as they will need it now that you can reach them. The real time consumer, 3 to 4 hours, is needed to use a hair dryer to melt and clear the ice from the condenser at the back of the freezer so the water can drain. Just take your time and all the ice will eventually melt and drain out so the new p-trap will work properly.

Ice builds up on the trough at the back of the freezer then spills onto the freezer floor and eventually onto the kitchen floor. Any idea as to the cause?
For model number KBFS25EWBL9
Hi Harold,
Thank you for the question. It sounds like the P-Trap might be blocked or needs to be replaced. The p-trap drain tube kit may also be known as the duck bill, or the drain pipe. The function of the p-trap drain kit is to carry the water that has formed during the defrost cycle to the bottom of the refrigerator, where your drain pan is located.
Hope this helps!

The above Whirlpool refrigerator is leaking water under the bottom freezer door. I saw on you tube that it is probably the defrost drain duck bill. Will the p tube drain kit work? Also do i need to defrost the refrigerator to do this?
For model number GZ25FSRXyy2
Hello Larry, thank you for your question. Yes, the P-Trap Drain Tube Kit
PartSelect Number: PS8691807 will work with your unit. You don't have to defrost the unit to replace the P tube, but we would recommend defrosting the unit to be sure the majority of the frost is gone in the unit. I hope this helps!

There is ice build up on the bottom of the freezer, which eventually leaks onto the floor. Will the new drain tube with the "p" trap fix this problem? Thank you.
For model number 10672003010
Hi Philip, thank you for your question. It could if that is what the issue is. When you are having temperature problems in your fridge, there are a few parts that could cause the issue. You can use a multi meter to test most of the parts. Make sure you cut power to your appliance before doing any repairs or tests. First you should test your defrost thermostat. Place the thermostat in ice cold water for 2-3 minutes after removing it from your appliance. It should be reading 0 ohms to be working correctly. Another part to check would be your defrost heater. Remove it from the appliance. It should be reading anywhere between 0 - 50 ohms to be working. You could check your temperature sensor. To find the correct reading for this part you will have to refer to your tech sheet that comes with your appliance. You can usually find this tech sheet behind the bottom grille of your fridge on either the right or left side. These are the most common parts that cause this issue in your appliance. So it is suggested you check them first. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Do i need to defrost the refrigerator before installing new p-trap, part number w10619951?
Hello Larry, thank you for your question. If the channel is frozen, or clogged you will want to defrost the unit before replacing the trap. If not, you can replace it without defrosting. There is also an installation video at the following link

My bottom freezer was getting ice buildup in the bottom, as i was unaware of your company i ordered an update kit on line which did not fit. The problem being that the drain tube at the top has a small ring around it about 1/32 in dia. While i could get the nylon tube adapter over it the drain itself will not fit over the larger diameter created by the ring and fit to the top. I was going to order one from you but want to be sure i won't have the same problem. In comparing both drains on line they seem identical.Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,

For model number Maytag # MBF1953YEB3
Hi Ed,
Thank you for your question. The part number listed under your model number for the drain tube kit is PS8691807. If the there is ice buildup at the drain tube, there is likely debris in it preventing water from draining. The water will pool on the floor and then freeze. The drain tube will need to be either cleaned out or if it is damaged, it will need to be replaced. To place an order for the part you may order it either online, by visiting our live chat sessions, Monday to Friday from 8AM to 4PM EST, or by calling our customer service line at 1-888-738-4871 and anyone will be happy to assist you. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.

My fridge/freezer was leaking and there was ice build up on the freezer compartment floor. I came to this website and saw that this was quite a common problem and generally fixed by replacing the P trap. I ordered the part and replaced the P trap as per the video (thank you for that!). After one week I see that ice has begun to build up again on the freezer floor so it doesn’t appear the replacement P trap has fixed the problem. It hasn’t leaked out yet but I’m guessing it’s just a matter of time. What would you suggest is wrong? What would be my next step be that I could do myself instead of calling a repair man. The appliance is 10 years old. Thank you.
For model number KBRS19KTWH
Hello Jean, thank you for contacting us. We would recommend checking the door gasket and making sure it is properly sealed. Sometimes dehumidification of leaking warm air can cause the issue of ice build-up and leaking. It also looks like your refrigerator is not defrosting properly. We would recommend checking the defrost thermostat, part number PS11743535, and the defrost heater, part number PS11738606. Please also ensure that the drip pan, part number PS11756973, is not damaged and is placed correctly. Please reach out to customer service if you need help placing an order. Glad to be of help!
