Dryer timer had gone out, and would not start.
I remove the know, slid the old timer out, leaving the wires connected. Placed the new timer into position and secured it, then unplugged wiring one at a time, placing them onto the new timer. All went great.

The knob for the timer was broken and the shaft on the timer was distorted.
Using a battery drill and screwdriver bits along with star bit. I had to search for my star bits or the time would have been less than 10 minutes. Removed the top panel, removed the timer which required a star bit, and installed timer, Reassembled the top panel and the knob to the timer. The machine has worked perfectly since the repair.

Cheap plastic dryer timer snapped
So easy - couple screws in the back, move the wires from the old dryer timer to the new one, snap it in place, and put the screws back in. Done in no time.

the dial was hard to turn and the timer quit working
YouTube showed me just what to do. I unplugged the dryer and took the back off. Then I took a picture of the timer with my phone since there were about 6 different colored wires that had to be unhooked and put back in the right place. It was not difficult. Last I turned the timer in the bracket so it was secure. I also had to order a new dial since the old one was split from years of use. A repairman would have charged for the call out plus the parts so I saved money by doing it myself. P.S. I'm a 71 year old woman.

Timer in Timed Dry cycle stopped at 50 minutes.
Unplugged dryer from wall.Removed 3 screws from the back that held the front face plate on. Pulled face plate away and to the right to release it from the dryer. Lifted the locking tab slightly and turned the old timer counter clockwise to remove. One at a time I removed a wire and connected it to the new timer. Installed new timer to the back of the face plate. Pushed on timer knob so I could hold the back of the timer to get it all the way on to the shaft. Lined up the three tabs at the bottom of the face place and slid it to the left , pushed the face face into place and secured it with the 3 screws. Plug Dryer back in. Done in less than 10 minutes. Dryer now works properly again. I know I saved myself a lot of money doing the repair my self.

The timer on the dryer would not set or run properly
We were able to do the repair easily by following the video instructions. Be sure to record where the different wires attach. You may need a square tipped screw driver, we had to buy one. There was one extra screw holding in the timer that I don't think was in the video.
Before ordering the timer, take off the timer knob and check to see if it is cracked inside. You may need to order the timer knob in addition to (or instead of) the timer itself. You can test this by taking off another knob and putting it on the timer. Make sure the metal clip is inside the shaft of the knob. The main difference between the knobs seems to be the position of the arrow. We are now using the knob from the signal buzzer while waiting for the timer knob to arrive.

Dryer timer - when turning the knob to select a timed setting the knob turns with no effort almost spins and the dryer will not turn on. A few days before, the dryer would only turn on at certain timed settings and shutting off before drying time was finished.
For model number GTDP300EM1WS

Hi Keri, Thank you for your inquiry. If the timer knob is turning with no effort you may need a d-shaped knob insert clip to keep it in place. The part number for it is PS267091. If this does not fix the issue you may have to look at the timer. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The timer for my GE dryer (#we4m533) on you site looks different than the one in my dryer. It seems that there are less wire post, and when i transfer wires from my dryer to the new timer they are not in the same order. And i have no way of knowing where to place them.

I need the d shaped shaft that goes into the timer. Thats the only part that is broken, i don't need the full timer.
For model number WE4M533

Hello Jake, thank you for inquiring! Unfortunately, the shaft is only sold as part of the timer, so you would need to purchase the timer to replace the shaft. Good luck with your repair!

If this part is broken, does it effect basically everything, e.G. Starting, interior light, et al?
For model number GTDX200GM1WW
PartSelect logo
Hello Ed, Thank you for the great question. The timer would not effect the interior lights from coming on. It can effect the appliance from starting. If you are getting no power at all to the appliance I suggest checking the Power cord to make sure it is in a working socket and it is plugged all the way in, they can come loses over time from the appliance moving with uneven loads. I would also check to make sure there is no damage to the terminal block where the cord is attached. Hope this helps!
