Water Inlet Valve Specifications

The water inlet valve has two ports for water to enter and controls the flow of water into a washing machine. Hot, cold, and warm water can easily enter the washer this way. If the water inlet valve is in any way damaged or defective, it may be slow to fill or even leak. Before beginning this replacement, make sure to unplug the washer from the power range or shut off the house circuit breaker. Remember to wear gloves for safety. Refer to the installation instructions and the diagram provided by the manufacturer for best results and accuracy.

The water would not stop filling
First I did some research and concluded the water inlet needed replacing. Obviously once you know what you need you go to PartSelet.com for parts and installation info. I went through the front of the machine. So I removed the front of the washer(2 screws at the front bottom)slide down the panel to separate it, lifted the top cover of the washer(2 screws on the underside of the lid and 3 wire connectors to the fill switches) and then loosened the right side panel(3 screws at the bottom). Now pushing the wash barrel to the side it gave me enough room to squeeze my arms in to the inlet part. Be careful there are sharp edges and screw tips inside the machine. I removed the 2 wire connectors(hot and cold solenoids) inside the washer and then removed the screw from the back outside that holds the water inlet to the machine. Now I was able to pull the inlet closer to me so I could get pliers on the hose clamp to loosen and remove the old part. The new part was an improved version that was more solid. I attached the hose affixed the squeeze hose clamp and pushed the water inlet into place. The screws were not threading so I grabbed a couple of self taping hex head screws and a nut driver head for my drill and screwed the inlet in from the back of the washer. Then I replaced the wire connectors to the water inlet. With the water inlet complete, I reattached the right side panel, the washer lid, fill switch connectors and the front panel. Washer fixed and running perfectly!

water filling in machine without turning on
I looked up the repair on You Tube and it looked easy! Take off the top of the machine (unplug and disconnect water first), 2 wire connections and 2 screws to mount. The only problem I had was screwing the mounting plate on the machine. It needed some help enlarging the hole a tad, I used an awl. Reconnect the water and plug in.This Granny rocks!

water would not shut off causing door to pop open and spill all over the floor
The repair would have gone much easier if I did not have a stack dryer on top of the washer. Had to roll out the total unit and work with the dryer partly on top. Only needed minimal work and tools after that.

No hot water in machine
First I removed the hot and cold water supply lines to the machine. Then I removed the two screws at the top of the back panel, and pulled the entire top of the machine off which was a little tricky to figure out. There are two tension-like clips in the front of the machine holding the top on. (I had thought the back panel would come off so I was surprised when it became clear that the top of the machine would come off.) Then I unscrewed the two screws that hold the water inlet valve. I had to remove the green grounding wire that was clipped on the frame. The water inlet valve then lifted out easily. There were two clips to slide off, and a hose going into the tub that also had to come off which I did by loosening a little clamp on the end of the hose- saved the clamp for the new valve! Re-attaching everything was a snap. Tested the hot water before re-setting the top of the machine back together and it worked!

Water valve not shutting off correctly
After the new replacement part arrived, I took off the complete back panel (after unplugging the electrical and shutting off the hot & cold water supply). I disconnected both hot & cold water hoses, unscrewed the 2 screws holding the water valve, unplugged the 2 electrical wires for the water valve sending unit, unclamped the outlet water hose. Then I reversed order with new water valve. Put everthing back together in about 20 minutes overall. I did also replace the hot & cold water supply hoses with a better quality hose. Works like new! Thank you very much.

water not turning off
Two small clamps holding the top onto the body were removed with two screws. I lifted the top and held it up with a small piece of board. Two screws were removed on the back top left that hold the water inlet valve in place. Once those were removed I reached inside and removed the two plugged in wires and and lifted the part out. At this point I used pliers to unclamp the hose that fed into the washer. I then reversed the process and put in the new part. Works great. Thanks a lot for making the part I needed easy to find. I am now a true fans of your website.

How do I get the top off so I can get to the defective parts on a top loading washer ?
For model number FWS445RFS2
PartSelect logo
Hi Dennis, Thank you for the question. The top is held in place by clips. You can use a putty knife or a flat head screw driver to release the clips. They are located on each side of the appliance. Just insert the screw driver and depress the clip and it will release. Hope this helps!

Hello, what does the "water intake valve" do?
For model number Fsw833as1
PartSelect logo
Hello E, Thank you for the question. The Water Inlet Valve is at the back of the appliance and the fill hoses connects to it and acts as a "gate" that opens to fill the appliance with water. Hope this helps!
