If the element in the igniter is only glowing red or orange, or not glowing at all, it will need to be replaced. This is a shorter style igniter. It is 3.72 inches in length, and it features an 18-inch wire lead. This kit includes the igniter, an instruction sheet, a mounting bracket, and the two ceramic wire nuts needed for installation. This part has an amperage range of 3.2 to 3.6. Unplug your appliance before you start any repair work.

My biggest problem was Fed Ex would get it almost to my door, and then ship it out of state to Champagne, IL, so I paid for 2-3 day shipping and it took 6 days. This part wasn't an exact match to the original part on my Kenmore Range, but it works perfectly and is far less costly. I was able to find a screw that would work in the stripped out hole on the mounting plate. My oven lights very quickly now and part comes with extra long wires so you can cut it down to the length needed for your oven. The previous replacement of this part was done by an appliance repair company about 8 years ago and that service call cost me $270. Very glad I did this myself, as it allowed my to use my shop vac to clean up all the protective plates in the oven. Open the oven and remove the racks, turn on the oven light. Remove two screws in the back to remove the bottom plate. Mine are about 1 1/4 in. long. Remove one nut holding the butterfly plate in place. Ignitor will be exposed.

... Read morend the oven, I was ready for that one. Drop light or flash light will be needed, it's dark in there. And something to sit on, 16" old plastic milk caddy, I just happen to have one.
Remove the two screws holding the ignitor, don't cut the wires just yet. Take note where the wiring runs. Install the new ignitor. My wires went behind the gas piping.
I cut the bottom wire from the old ignitor first, up close to the ceramic. Wire shield can be reused, slide it over the new wire. Cut the old wire, leave a lot. Trim the new wire to desired length and strip the ends of both and use the ceramic cap and connect the wires. Do the top wire. Slide the wire shield next to the igniter, adjust the wires so the wire shields won't slide away from ignitor. With the butterfly shield back in place it's time to plug it in and give it a test. Nice. Replace the bottom plate of oven, screw holes hard to find. Had to use an awl to find the holes to line up the screws. I also didn't push the front of the plate down into place until I had the screws started. It helped.
You might think this is overkill, but how many of us have ever replaced the ignitor. Not me. I do a lot of DIY's. I'll rate this as a 1, easy.

Remove oven racks and bottom oven panel cover.Removed old igniter.one screw was stripped so that slowed me down quite a bit! Used a small vise grip tool to remove screw! installed new ignighter,cut existing wires; spliced in new wires( be sure to unplug appliance) tested ok. Reassembled.

Oven wasn't staying on and or re-lighting, recycling to maintain the set Temp.
Opened the oven door, removed the racks. Removed the bottom cover, two thumb screws in the rear, bottom, of the oven. This exposed the top plate of the burner, (actually in the top of the broiler section) 1 nut took this cover off. Now, the burner and the igniter are exposed. Bad ignitor
This was very easy. Just remove the bottom of the oven by removing the two screw in the back. Then remove the baffle from under that and you of will see the ingniter. The one wire will reach the gas valve, just splce the other. 6 screws is all it takes. Turned it on worked perfectly.

Took a long time to light oven, smell of gas, slow heat up.
Really easy to do, did not have to bring stove out from the wall! Turn power off to the stove. Remove the lower drawer. Remove the oven rakes. If my oven is taking too long to heat up and i’m hearing a banging noise when it starts up but I can smell the gas is that the igniter?
Hi Bailey, thanks for the question. It sounds like it is the igniter causing your problem, but you can test it to be sure. First you should remove any covers or shields so you can observe the igniter. The igniter needs to glow white hot to open the gas safety valve. If your element is glowing but won't light the burner after 90 seconds your igniter is too weak to open the gas safety valve and will need to be replaced. If the igniter is not glowing at all you can use a multi-meter to test it for continuity, if there is no continuity that means the igniter needs to be replaced. My oven isn’t turning on and heating up so I tested my igniter and it tested fine and it isn’t visibly damaged but what else could it be?
Hi Lee, I recommend observing the igniter as it tries to light the burner. The igniter will need to be glowing white hot to open the gas safety valve, if it is too weak to do that the burner will not light. If the igniter is glowing but the the burner does not light after 90 seconds this also indicates the igniter is weak and needs to be replaced. The igniter is glowing yellow but the bottom burner will not get hot. The top burners all work. Thoughts?
Hi Marge, the igniter needs to glow white hot to open the gas safety valve, if yours is not getting white hot it is too weak and will need to be replaced. I hope this helps.

I had bad ignitor symptoms, checked and found my igniter element was in three pieces. I replaced the igniter. Turned oven on, everything was working, igniter glowed, gas started flowing and oven was heating up, then bang, and nothing. I found the new igniter in three pieces also. Any idea why the igniters are failing?

Thank you for your question. If the igniter had a crack in it or was defective it may cause it to prematurely fail. Also if you touched the carborundum portion of igniter with your fingers, the oil from your skin can cause the igniter to fail. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I've read about problems caused by a weak igniter. Mine glows bright orange and the element lights, but with about half the normal amount of Flame. This takes close to 90 seconds. Once gas is flowing, i tap the valve housing lightly with my screwdriver, the valve fully opens and there is a normal Flame. Is this a situation where a new igniter will probably fix the problem?

If the igniter isn't getting hot enough it won't allow the gas valve to release the gas and light the burner. You may also want to check the oven temperature sensor part number 5304497424 and the safety valve part number 5303208499. I hope this helps!

Hello> i am having trouble finding the model number? Where is it located? The problem i have is when the oven is turned on the amps start out at 2.5 amp and them ramp up to 30.35 amps and trips the 20 amp breaker. Could it be a bad gas igniter ?
