This rear drum bearing kit is designed for use with dryers. It supports the rear of the drum in your appliance as it tumbles your clothes during the drying cycle. If your drum will not tumble, or if it is making a lot of noise, it could be an issue with this part. This is a ball-and-socket style bearing. You will need to replace this if the bushing has worn out, or if the ball support is damaged. This kit includes one bearing, one ball shaft, one ball bearing, one ball bearing retainer, a small tube of high temperature lubricant and installation screws. Unplug your dryer before you begin this repair.

It had to be done, the dryer was thumping
This part worked great, it wasn’t that hard to do, you just had to take your time when you took it apart, then clean the whole unit out with a vacuum or brush, and when I got the part, I put it all back together, don’t forget to clean out the dryer vent tube going outside, mine was packed with dryer lint. It was a mess but when I finally got it all back together, it ran great thanks for the part it really helped.

Just what I needed
I have an old White Westinghouse dryer and I've replaced the rear drum bearing a number of years ago, so this is my second go-around. The video instruction shows a newer dryer, but the essential parts haven't changed. It was a great help. Thanks, PartSelect!

Noisy.
Had scape upper felt off of the drum edge but had to use a hacksaw to cut off the three plastic plates that were riveted to the upper felt replacement part. The old part number was131469100.
First of all, the folks at Part Select have been terrific. I balled up my address and they were great in correcting my error and getting the parts promptly to me. They provide directions with the parts. And You Tube, is a wealth of information too. The process is to remove the drum and replace the nylon busihing that supports the drum
... Read more at the back of the machine. Getting it out was no sweat. Getting the drum back in was a bit more challenging single handed. If I was going to make any suggestion it would be this is a good project for two sets of hands with the second set needed for about ten minutes. The You Tube video I watched said putting the front cover with the drum attached to the back of the unit would be the challenge and they were right. Otherwise, super easy and the results are it's back to "new" condition. Thanks again to Part Select!
I basically followed the video instructions on your website. Pretty simple but ran into an issue pre-threading the 3 self taping screws into the spindle bearing. The screws provided were blunt on the end and did not tap easily at all. I used the existing screws that were much more "sharp" and worked much better. Also, the new screws were
... Read morePhilips drive and due to the amount of torque trying to self tap nearly stripped them out. The old sharper screws were square drive which had a better bite. So basically, I used the old screws to self tap and then used the new screws for the final installation. It took a long time to clean all the lint out from the inside of the dryer. The motor was completely embedded with lint and animal hair. You may want to suggest that a good cleaning may be needed so bring a shop vac...and also something to carefully pick the lint balls out from around the motor armature and bearing area. Overall the video instructions were really a big help!

VERY NOISY!!!
Have done this before - dissembled, cleaned everything, re-assembled with new parts - rear bearing, idler, and belt. Hardest part is getting the spring back on the idler pulley. You take the top lid off, remove the front panel and then the drum. remove the access panel on the back to release the spring tension on the idler pulley,
... Read morethen remove the drum. Vacuum clean everything, then reassemble with new stem and bearing, new belt, and idler pulley. Test spin drum by hand - if belt comes off it's likely twisted. Put belt back on and try again. Try operating with air mode to spin drum. If belt stays on, complete re-assembling and make sure you have no screws left over!
Loud squealing when dryer was turning. At first it was just when it started and eventually it was constant.
Be carful when unpacking, the grounding bearing is in loose with the bolts. I had to chase it. Follow the video instructions for the stacked washer/dryer combo and you will not have a problem. Recommend you have two people working to lift the drum out and to install the new bearing.
Watched on-line video, then applied those steps. 1. Pop the front of the deck loose using putty knife to depress clips; 2. Disconnect wires from light and door switch; (Before I disconnected wires from door switch and light, I made wiring sketches to make sure I reconnected in original manner.) 3. Remove lint filter
... Read more mount screws and mount from bottom of door opening; 4. Cut drum belt with wire-cutters and removed it; 5. Remove drum support clip from top center of front panel; 6. Remove (1) screw from each side of dryer body that hold front to sidewalls, removed front panel; 7. Remove drum by lifting the rear out of the bearing, then moving it forward through the machine front; [While I had the dryer disassembled, I thoroughly cleaned it of lint, dirt & metal filings. The metal filings were from the worn ball hitch and drum support bearing cup. I spent as much time cleaning it out as I did working on it.] 8. Stand drum on gallon paint bucket while removing ball hitch (Use a #2 drywall phillips apex to obtain sufficient seating & torque to remove and reinstall ball hitch screws at rear of drum.); 9. Have a second person hold the new ball hitch in position while starting screws, if necessary; 10. Use nut driver w/5/16" socket to remove bearing retainer & ground ball clip; 11. Install new bearing into retainer clip, insert attachment screws through the holes in both, stick grounding ball in depression on back of bearing as screws are fed through back panel; 12. Hold ground ball clip in place to start one screw, then the other & tighten with nut driver; 13. Start drum belt on motor shaft and position against tensioner pulley; 14. Feed drum through front of machine and loop belt over rear of drum; 15. Slide belt forward on drum as drum moves to rear to keep it aligned with position of tension pulley; 16. Lift rear of drum to place ball hitch on top of bearing, then press down to seat it into bearing; 17. Turn drum to ensure belt alignment, then re-accomplish steps 6 thru 1.
The loud noise was present only while using the dryer of my washer/dryer combo unit. I traced the noise down to the rear center of the dryer and I noticed that the noise would stop or be quieter if I pushed on this area with my hand while the dryer was running. I realized there must be some type of bearing supporting the weight of the dry
... Read moreer drum while allowing it to rotate. I did a Google search for parts on my model # and found Parts Select. I used the parts diagrams to figure out what parts were the likely problem. I found the rear bearing part# and watched the very helpful video showing how to replace it.
I removed the drum on my dryer and found the bearing and socket to be completely dry (no grease) and showing a lot of wear. The dryer heat element surrounds the bearing so I think 10 years of use had dried up all the grease. I purchased the bearing kit so I swapped out the old parts for everything in the kit. I also noticed the drum belt was split in places and little black dots all over the inside of the drum area were small pieces of the belt. I replaced the belt and took the opportunity to vacuum the drum area because it was covered with 10 years of lint. The bearing replacement video was extremely helpful and I was able to replace parts easily even though I had a different dryer than in the video. My dryer is much quieter now and I didn't have any screws left over!! I will definitely shop Parts Select again!!
Had a squelch/squeak coming from the rear of the unit
I looked up a YouTube video on my specific model. Found one that said “basic disassembly”. I watched that and had it apart and back together in no time. Very easy to take apart and put new parts back in it. Re-assembled and since the repair no squeaking.

I cannot seem to detach the drum to install my drum bearings. Do you have any tips or tricks?
Hi Seamus, if you are having troubles detaching the drum we suggest lifting it from the back to lift it out of the cup, and remove it. I hope this helps!

I think I am installing the rear drum bearings incorrectly because they keep failing prematurely. Is there something different I should be doing? Is there another part I should be checking that could affect the performance of the bearings? Thanks
Hello Katie, the most common reason for this happening is a restricted or overly long dryer ducting. If there is too much heat and not enough air flow it will cause a blow back into the cabinet, which would greatly affect your bearings. This is also harmful to other mechanical and electrical features in your dryer. We recommend inspecting your dryer ducting before replacing the drum bearings again. Best of luck with this repair!

I’m replacing the drum bearings but I also need to replace the felt seal (front). Do you have any advice on how to do this?
Hello Beth, to replace the felt seal you will need to remove the top panel and the mounting screws on the back. After that the control panel assembly should come off. Then the front panel of the dryer can be removed. From here you can install the new felt seal 134440200 (which can be glued down). To get to the bearings you will need to remove the belt, then the tub can be lifted out of the front of the unit. From there you can change the bearings. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Hello, I replaced the rear drum kit. The loud squeaking stopped, but the noise has now been replaced with a loud robust sound. I took the drum out and tried resetting it. What should I check now?
Hello Carlos,
Thanks for your question. Without the dryer model number we can only give general information, but you may wish to also check the drive belt, the drum roller axles, the blower wheel, drum glides, and the idley pulleys for any signs of wear and tear. If all else fails, it could be the drive motor.
I hope this helps.

My dryer makes a low-pitch rumbling sound -- not the high-pitch screech -- and the exhaust of air seems to pulse. Is a bad rear drum bearing likely to be my problem? Thanks.
For model number 4178204101
Hi Fred,
Thank you for your inquiry. There are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the rear drum bearing kit, the drum support bearing, the drum belt, the drum glide, the front lower drum seal, the bearing bracket, and the ball hitch. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hi what is the white plastic piece that appears to attach to the interior of the dryer connecting to the barrel and front at the top
For model number GLER341AS2
Hello Trevor, Thank you for contacting us. I have researched the model you have provided and have found the part you are looking for is PartSelect Number PS5574052 Drum Glide. Please note: these are sold individually, however there are two of these in your appliance. We recommend that these be replaced at the same time, this allows for optimal performance and ensures they wear evenly. Hope this helps!
Front of drum dropped down clothes are getting ruined. What could be the problem ? I can push up on the front of the drum.
For model number FSE747GES1
Hello Stephen, Thank you for the question. I suggest checking the support for the rear bearing, Part Number: PS418807 and other parts of the Read Drum Bearing kit, Part Number: PS459829, If they are wore or or damaged, it will cause the drum to fall or to be loose. Thank you for your inquiry, good luck with this repair!
