This high limit thermostat is used in a dryer and monitors the temperature to make sure it does not exceed 260 degrees Fahrenheit. When your dryer temperature reaches 260 it will cut it out and only comes back when it drops by at least 70 degrees Fahrenheit. If your dryer is overheating, taking too long to dry clothes, or is not producing enough heat, replacing the thermostat could be the solution to your problem. The tools needed for this part are a Phillips screwdriver, putty knife, and needle nose pliers. Refer to the manual provided by the manufacturer for installation instructions and guidance.

He then replaced the thermal limiter which was directly at the right of the heating element by unplugging the wire connections to the thermal limiter and then unscrewing the thermal limiter from the rear panel. The process to install the new thermal limiter was the reverse process. He didn't install a new High Limit Thermostat because there was one attached to the new Heater. When all the new parts were installed, he reinstalled the drum by pushing the rear nub of the drum into the whole at the center of the heating plate. He then placed the rubber drum cable around the drum with the rough service facing the drum, placed the cable on the pulley and adjusted the tension of the cable with a screw driver. He then reinstalled the front panel by aligned the screw holes and reinserting and tightening the screws.

Hello Debra, thank you for your question. First we would recommend opening up the unit and cleaning it out well. It sounds like it might be getting too hot and shutting down. Vacuum out around the blower, motor, vent and drum. Unplug the unit and leave it while you clean it then plug it in to see if that fixes the issue. If it doesn't, you will want to test a few parts to determine which is the issue. They are High Limit Thermostat Part Number: 3204267, Control Thermistor Part Number: 134587700 and LIMITER Part Number: 137032600. I hope this helps!

Hello Latricia, Thank you for your inquiry. The thermal fuse blows if the dryer overheats and can also cause the high limit thermostat to blow as well and the dryer will no longer heat. It can also be caused by a power surge, or an issue with the heating element. I would test the heating element with a multimeter to see if it has continuity, then check the wiring and the power cord. Also it is a good idea to remove the front panel to access inside and vacuum it out.If everything is clear and it still goes to pause, you may need to replace the main control board, PartSelect Number PS3490387. Electric dryer will now & then just shut off on its own after running 10-12 seconds. I pulled off the vent hose, it's clean inside, the dryer port to the hose is clean, and it's clean up the wall as far as my elbow. I left the hose off, tried again, and it ran fine. Put the hose on mid-cycle and it stopped running. Turned it off, let it sit a few minutes, put vent hose back on at both ends (dryer and wall outlet) and...runs fine and will run till the timer is up. This whole fools errand has happened 2x now, but we had 10 normal drying cycles between the two times with no issues whatsoever. I initially thought: blown thermal fuse, but the air is hot, the clothes are dry (after the entire song & dance) and it will pause, stop, and run fine, of course AFTER I take the hose off, put it back on, etc. Plus...if the thermal fuse was bad then...it would never suddenly "fix" itself after taking the hose off...electrical fuses are either good and working or..not. No in-between, as far I I know. Love to hear your thoughts.

Over time, the air vents get clogged with lint or dirt which traps the hot air inside the dryer unit. Stopping and removing the vent hose might gives time for the dryer to cool down, causing it to start once again till it heats up again. We would suggest checking the high-limit thermostat, part number PS446428, for continuity using a multimeter. A faulty thermostat might not be reading the temperature accurately, causing the dryer to stop mid-cycle. We hope this information helps!

I had a door open error, even when closed. I replaced the Thermal Limiter, which solved that issue. After install, the dryer is getting very hot, even at low heat. The continuity of the thermal limiter as well as the high limit thermostat and thermal fuse on the heating element housing, which all checked out fine. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hello Ethan, Thank you for your inquiry. First check the door catch and strike to make sure they are not damaged or broken, and test the door switch with a multimeter. There are two thermal fuses in this model, one on the heating element (where the high limit thermostat is) and the other on the blower tube, plus the control thermistor, which is also on the blower tube. Also test the heating element itself. If you have tested all of these parts, you may have a wiring issue or an issue with the main control board, which gets the message from the door switch if the door is opened or closed. Check the wiring and the board for any visible damage. Good luck with your repair.
