My hot surface light stays on for the large front burner. Do I need to buy the entire burner assembly

Hello Eric, thank you for the question. You do not need to replace the entire burner assembly, as a faulty burner switch can cause the led light to remain on. You may need to replace the burner switch, part number PS8764900. We hope this helps.
The burner gets to hot for the setting that it is on. Could it be the switch or the burner?
