Product Description

Oven Temperature Sensor Specifications

The temperature sensor, also referred to as a thermostat, probe, or thermistor sensor, is responsible for measuring the temperature inside your oven. It is a platinum-resistance sensor with a resistance of 1000 ohms. If your oven is not heating evenly, not heating at all, or showing an error message, the sensor may be faulty. Typically located inside the oven, near the top, and attached to the rear wall, you can test the sensor with a multimeter. To do so, disconnect the power, remove the back panel, disconnect the wiring harness, and detach the sensor. Set the multimeter to ohms and touch the probes to the terminals. This test must be conducted at room temperature for accurate results. Refer to your user manual for guidance. If the test results show that the sensor is broken, you must replace it. This OEM replacement part is sold individually.

The oven has power but will not heat past the lowest detection limit of 175. No heat whatsoever. Convection will also not heat. Reset the breaker and it is not in a demo mode. Please help!
For model number NY58J9850WS

Hi Jennifer, Thank you for your question. If the oven is not heating correctly, the issue is likely the oven temperature sensor. The sensor monitors the oven temperature and signals the electronic control to turn the elements on and off. You will need to test it with a multimeter to see if it has continuity. Before removing and testing this part, please unplug the oven from the electrical outlet. The temperature sensor is frequently found inside the oven, attached to the rear wall near the top. Once you have located it, remove it from the oven. In order to test it, you will need to reference your owner’s manual to determine what the correct reading is for your model, as this varies from model to model. Set the multimeter on the Rx1 setting and touch the terminals with the probes. This test needs to be done with the sensor at room temperature to produce accurate results. If your test results do not meet the manufacturer’s guidelines, you need a replacement temperature sensor. If the sensor is not the issue, you will need to check the electronic control board, the elements and the wiring between the parts to see which one is causing the issue. We hope this helps! If you have any questions, please let us know.

My oven is burning food in only a matter of a couple minutes. We preheat the oven and once preheated put in our food and it burns the top extremely fast. My appliance repair company has went out of business. I am not sure if the temp sensor has went bad or maybe for some reason the broiler is coming on but the control panel does not show the broiler on. And the temp on the panel has not changed since the preheat stage beeped that it was done. Could you please give me some guidance

The self cleaning feature does not work, no codes, when you select self cleaning a HOT indicator light comes on what could be causing this?? The door does not lock????
For model number NE59J7630SG/AA
PartSelect logo
Hi Thomas, thank you for reaching out. Based on our research, you will not be able to start a self-cleaning cycle if the control lockout feature is activated or if the temperature of the oven is too high. First, try unlocking the controls by pressing the OFF/CLEAR button for 3 seconds until the lock icon disappears from the display. If that is not causing the issue, then the oven temperature might be too high for the self-clean feature to start, which may also prevent the door from locking, and you may need to wait until the oven cools down. We hope this helps!
