Product Description

Micro Door Switch Specifications

This door switch, also known as a safety switch, is a genuine OEM replacement part for microwaves. It is a safety mechanism that sends signals to the microwaves control system, telling it when the door is open/closed. This ensures that the microwave only operates when the door is securely shut and switches off as soon as the door is open. Over time, this switch can become worn out or damaged. A faulty door switch can result in failure to switch the microwave on/off, lack of heat, and running with the door open. To confirm that the door switch is faulty, use a multimeter to test for electrical failure. To remove the faulty switch, disconnect the wiring connectors and take note of where they are positioned. Place the new switch in position and reattach the wiring connectors to the appropriate terminals and close the microwave door to check that the switch engages appropriately.

Turntable started turn when door opened, then unit wouldn't run when start was pressed
Unplugged the unit. With a screwdriver removed two screws on the top plastic vent. This exposed the screw holding the control panel. Removed that screw to access the switches. Removed the visible connected wiring from the switches. Grabbed each switch with pliers to gentle pull them from their holders. Inserted new switches and reconnected wiring, ensuring the correct orientation of switches in their holders.
Recommend replace all three switches.

Our microwave would turn on after the timer was set but only the light would turn on, nothing else.
I replaced all 3 door switches. Once you remove the top vent then remove the panel. Then remove the two screws holding the door switches in place and pop them out and replace them. It was tricky getting around all the wires but eventually was able to get around them. Took less than 20 mins to do and was less than $40 to fix. Much better than having to replace our over the stove microwave.

microwave ran with the door open
First I read through the customer comments, reviews, questions, etc. at Parts Select, which is always a good bet. Then I put "samsung microwave door switch replacement" into youtube and watched some videos. They don't even have to be for Samsung. From what I can tell, many of the appliance companies use the same design and the same junk parts, so watching a GE video is almost the same for example. Watch some videos to familiarize yourself with the steps. There are maybe six to disassemble and install the new part. I replaced all three switches. They are not expensive and to replace 3 is only 5% more work than to replace just one; you have to take the microwave apart in either case. UNPLUG THE MICROWAVE FROM THE WALL. Start taking it apart. I use my phone to take a picture of any thing I remove, unscrew or disconnect, especially wires, BEFORE I disconnect them. Thee pictures serve as a reference when I go to reconnect and reassemble. If I am uncertain then I check the picture. Good luck!

The microwave would not turn on or would run with the door open
Other tools that are usefull long needle nose pliers, long thin blade screw driver and small magnetic flashlight. Place the microwave on a work bench and remove the case it cover 3 sides. Place the microwave on a chair so it can stand with the controls up. You are replacing the lower door microswitch. The switch is located behind the control panel in the lower part of the area. The switch is several inches inside this area and your hands will not fit. Take care when moving wires and a couple of sensors. Use the thin blade screwdriver to release a tab holding the switch in place. Do not break this tab. Take the needle nose pliers and remove the switch. Put the wires on the new switch, open the door a short distance so a door lever moves enough to put the microswitch back into the bracket.

Microwave would not start when door closed. Sometimes you could push in or jiggle door and it would work for awhile and then it woud stop again. I knew it eas a door switch issue but wasn't certain which of the 3 or the body latch itself.
I removed the body latch assembly and found the bottom micro switch (NC) terminal burnt and loose. I replaced and working perfectly fine now. Easy diagnose and easy repair.

My microwave comes on when the door is open. I have read your resposes to a couple others, one you mention three switched another only two switches, how many would i need for my model? I noticed in one response you mentioned a tech would be necessary but not on another suggestion. Would you elaborate please, i haven't opened up the assembly yet, i am a licensed electrician and feel i could do the work myself. Any precautions i should be aware of with this model? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hello Ron, thank you for your question. There are three microwave door switches in this unit. We usually recommend replacing them all, unless you want to test them to determine which one is bad. The switches and holder that they are mounted in come as an assembly by ordering Part Number: PS4239694. If you wanted to test the switches to determine which part is bad the individually parts are available. The top and bottom switches are the same, Part Number: PS4131192 and the switch in the middle is Part Number: PS4225460. This is a very easy repair. A lot of customers take this repair on, and its quite easy. Here are some links that might help! https://www.partselect.com/Microwave+test-door-switch+repair.htm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czZHdMB5eEU. I hope this helps!

Microwave stopped while running. Nothing will turn on. Everything is dark. The wall plug is fine and runs other devices.

Hi Debbie, Thank you for your question. There are a few parts that you could check to make sure they are working correctly. First would be your door switches. You should test them with a multi meter to see if they are working correctly, they should read 0 ohms to be working. Then you will want to test your fuse as well. Please keep in mind to be very careful and safely discharge your capacitor before doing any repairs on your microwave. Even with your appliance unplugged the capacitor could still badly shock you. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My microwave works fine except it also starts running when the door opens. It could be one of the three door (relay) switches. I thought I would just replace all three. Which ones do I order for my model listed above?
For model number SMH1713S
PartSelect logo
Hello Verna, Thanks for your question. You would need the part numbers PS4225460 and PS4131192, these are the two door switches we show for your model. You will need a licensed technician to install these parts, however, as they can carry electrical charges even when you unplug the microwave. I hope this helps.

Microwave light stays on with door closed and will not turn on. When i push the door down a bit i hear a switch click. I tested all 3 and the appear to work correctly. It almost seems their is not enough pressure to activate one of the switches. The door latch is functioning properly. Could this still be a bad switch.

Hi John, Thank you for your question. Yes it does sound like one of your door microswitches is bad. I would suggest testing all of your microswitches to figure out which one is not working. They should all read about 0 ohms to be working. Good luck with your repair.

Just finished cooking something that produced a lot of steam. When I took it out of the microwave, I noticed the display was blank and then suddenly came back on like it had lost power. I set the clock but then a half hour later, I tried to use it again and everything was blank and no lights in oven or microwave. The breaker didn't trip and using a voltage tester, I found that there was power going to the thermostat.

Hello Kevin, Thank you for the question. We suggest testing the Humidity Sensor with a Multimeter to check the continuity to make sure it is not shorted out or damaged. We hope this solves your problem!
