Timer on thevdryervwas broken
Took back off control, panel. Took the timer out from the back, but left all the wires on. Took one wire off at a time and installed that wire on the same terminal on the new timer and did the same for all wires, one at a time. Replaced timer. Tried timer. It worked great. Buttoned up back and pushed dryer back in place.

dryer would not turn off, and dial would not advance in one of the 3 cycles
removed top of dryer with all the controls and just switched part and connected corresponding wires one at a time and put top of dryer back in place. Unfortunately for me parts select web sight listed 3 different parts to fix this problem, changed all 3 and neither fixed problem.Last part with tax and shipping cost me $160.20, and because its electrical according to return policy might not get a refund at all.

Wrong part number sent to me.
Didn't get to do repair because we were sent the wrong part number. Part number on box was correct but part in box was different number. So I had to pay $11.00 to send part back for refund plus original shipping of $10.00. So I'm out over $20 an still have no part to repair my dryer.

Timer became difficult to turn causing control knob to strip out.
Generally followed directions by another customer that was provided with order. Much appreciated for this DIY. Do have extra comment so here goes.
1. Unplug dryer from wall and remove existing control knob.
2. Remove three screws on back of control compartment and fold the front forward.
3. Remove tiny anchor screw for timer and twist loose.
4. Transfer wire from old to new one at a time. (Extra comment - I thought at first there was problem with new timer because there were more wires than connectors. Some of the wires had double connectors. That hiccup in installation was caused by my inexperience with this first time effort.)
5. Reconnect timer to dryer compartment with tiny screw.
6. Replace three screws on back.
7. Add new control knob, plug up dryer, and it is done.

The timer knob came off of dryer. I used pliers to turn the piece that was protruding from where the knob used to be. I accidentally broke that part off - now there's not enough there for me to grasp and I cannot use my dryer as a result. Do I need to order both the timer and the knob?
For model number GTDP490ED0WS

Hi Trimeka, Thank you for the question. Yes sorry, the timer and the knob will need to be replaced. The shaft that protrudes from the back of the panel is part of the timer assembly and is not sold or made separate from the timer switch. Good luck with the repair!

The knob on the timer strips on the timer shaft. But I can take a pliers and turn the timer. The knob is not cracked
For model number GTDN500EM1WS

Hi Robert, Thank you for the question. There shoulld be a D shaped clip in the hole on the back of the knob that grips the timer shaft. If yours broke or has been lost that could be the issue. You will need to replace the D-Shaped Knob Insert Clip,Part Number: PS267091. If your knob still has the clip it might be stripped inside and the knob will need to be replaced,Part Number: PS2370714. Hope this helps!

My dryer will not heat on some cycles but will heat others
For model number DRSR495EG8WW

Hi Roger, Thank you for your question. If the dryer is not heating correctly, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which ones are causing the issue. You will need to check the cycling thermostat, the high limit thermostat and the internal bias thermostat. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

When i press the start button the dryer goes on but shut off as soon as i release the start button. The dryer heats up if i hold the button. Is the timer my problem?
For model number GTDP490ED2WS
PartSelect logo
Hi Perry, Thank you for your question. It could be your timer however I would suggest testing your start switch first. It seems more like that may be the issue. Though you may want to check your door switch, thermostats, and thermal fuses to make sure that they are working correctly as well. Those parts can also stop your machine from starting. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

I'm not getting heat in the dryer. Replaced the cycling thermostat - 4 wire. And tested the other ones all good but no heat. Dose a timer have some thing to do with the heat turning on or off. Cause some times there is heat for a short time and it go's. No heat. And the timer wont move. Please help me if you can. It seems so easy. Don't know y i cant get this to work. Your friend steve

Hi Steve, Thank you for your question. I would suggest also testing your door switch as well. Just to make sure it is registering that the door is closing. Otherwise it may be your timer that is the issue if you have tested all of your thermostats and they are in working order. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
