The bolt holes of the new drive shaft assembly come unthreaded
This is a normal condition; the old bolts are self-tapping so simply align them well, I used a drill-driver to get them started and completed tightening with a socket wrench. (Also the new drive shaft assembly comes with a tub seal, so you don't have to order a separate one.) I do think it would be better if the drive assembly came with 4 new bolts.
The instruction video was immensely helpful, Thank you.

After purchasing tub nut, tub seal, split ring & washer, tub bearing, I found that it wasn't the problem causing the noise. Found main bearing in drive shaft assembly was bad due to tub seal leaking.
The washer came apart fairly easy until I tried removing tub nut Huge Problem!! After beating the spanner wrench to death I purchased a $50 43mm impact socket to remove the nut. I cleaned up the tub and shaft and started reassembly by replacing bearing 6006rs that I found locally. When I started installing the tub seal I ran into a major issue. Seal would not fit properly, it was to loose in tub. The seal was not large enough for outside diameter. It was a 1/16 of inch or so off. I tried two seals and neither one would work. After talking with a retired repair tech I found that the tub was bad and that the old seal had corroded so bad that it expanded the tub seal housing. I decided not to spend anymore money for this junk of a washer and I applied rtv sealant & reassembled. I'll use it until it breaks down and trash it, very bad design for tub seal, nothing holds it in place, pushed up out of tub. I don't think the rtv sealant well hold for very long. I do appreciate the instructional video for repairs, they are very helpful for showing procedures as to the repair but it's a new machine that's used and everything comes apart so easy. 5 year old washer doesn't come apart that easy. It took 2 weeks to fix it after waiting on parts and doing a unconventional repair to tub seal. So now my wife has started searching for another washer because this one is running on a prayer!

My washing machine is leaking from the screw at the bottom of the pully system. I replaced the tub bearing and seal pull the tub seal and it is still leaking. It seems like it is leaking from the shaft because nothing else is wet beside the nut holding the wheel on.
For model number GTWP1800D0WW

Hi Jessica, Thank you for your question. If you have replaced both of those parts already then unfortunately it does sound like you might have to replace this shaft and drive tube assembly itself. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Should you be able to move the pulley back and forth like it has slop or should it be a solid fit?I need to replace the drive shaft cause i can hear the bearing. should i replace everything up above it like the tub bearing and seal while i have it apart? thanks!
For model number GTWN4250D1WS
PartSelect logo
Hello Kevin, Thank you for the question. The pulley should not feel lose. You should be able to reuse the bearing if there is no damage or wear, but we do suggest replacing the seal. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

This machine got wet from hurricane Irma. I am in the Florida keys. We had a roof leak and water got into our laundry room. Now in spin cycle it makes a loud noise so I replaced the tub bearing thinking that was going to fix the problem. Just cranked it up and it is still noisy. Could it be the shaft & drive tube assembly?
For model number GTWN5250D0WW
PartSelect logo
Hello Brian, Thanks for your question. You will also want to check the drive pulley for any signs of damage, and replace it if it is damaged, along with the drive belt. Check the drain pump to see if it is clogged, and consider replacing it if it is free of obstructions and the source of the noise. If those parts all are intact, consider running the motor without the belt to see if it functions quietly, and replace it if it is loud. Lastly, check the water inlet valve for any signs of debris and replace it if it is restricted. I hope this helps.

Can just the bearing on the transmission be replaced?

Hi Gil, Thank you for your question. The bearing is part of the shaft and drive tube assembly and is not sold separately. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Washer will not spin or agitate. Checked all parts using your videos as a guide. Belt and agitator ok. Tried to turn tub drive wheel by hand and seems to be very tight. Is the shaft & drive tube assy bad? All so the tub will fill and drain properly.
For model number GTWN2800D0WW

Hi Wayne, Thank you for your inquiry. There are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the agitator, the agitator coupling, the drive belt and the lid switch. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The left threaded nut who retains the tub to the drive shaft unbolt by herself. What could be the problem???
For model number GTAN4250D2WW
PartSelect logo
Hello Stephane, thank you for the great question. We have found that the nuts usually get loose or unthreaded by themselves due to gap issues between the threads. The only way to address the gap issue is to use a liquid thread locker, which completely fills the gap between the threads. This is an engineering adhesive that solidifies into a tough thermoset plastic between the two metal surfaces in the absence of air and prevents any side-to-side movement. If it will also not fix the issue, you may need to replace the nut, part number PS271505. We hope this information helps!

Hi I'm having a problem with my GE washer. A heavy blanket had gotten wrap around agitator and now I'm having agitation problems. My question is if i replaced the motor coupler and the agitator grabs that and agitates fine with no clothes in the tub. When i take this agitator coupler off i can hold that piece the agitator coupler goes on. I should not be able to hold that from moving! So what I'm asking is if i replace the washing machine basket drive assembly will that fix my problems? Or will i have to replace the drive motor as well? And when the blanket grabbed the agitator and wrapped around it could that have enough force to strip that basket drive since this GE washer model technically doesn't have a transmission?
For model number GTWN5650F2WS
PartSelect logo
Hi Benjamin, Thank you for your question. I would suggest checking your coupler yes. You should also check the agitator cogs as well. They have little teeth on the outer edges that work to have the agitator agitate. If those are stripped you would have to replace the entire agitator. I hope this helps. Good luck with your repair.

My washer will spin out great, a little noise, but it doesn't agitate, any pressure and it makes the noise like it's working, but doesn't agitate the clothes. Didn't know if this might be the culprit or not?
For model number GHWN4250D1WW
PartSelect logo
Hi David, Thank you for the question. The most common issue would be with the Agitator Coupling. You can remove the agitator and check this coupling to see if it shows wear or damage. This part connects the transmission drive shaft to the agitator base, and if damaged it will not grip the agitator and allow it to agitate. Hope this helps!

My 3 year old washer got wet in a flood. Just the bottom foot. My guess is motor w/circuit board is the failure, but... what is the 2 wire switch or sensor in the drum bearing housing? some sort of reluctor? the washer fills and pumps water out fine. i have no agitation and no spin at all. nothing! i took the motor off and it looks fine...but i have no way to check the circuit board? is there a way? thanks.
For model number GTWN2800D1WW

Hi Scott, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately a certified technician would have to test your board. However that switch that you are referring to only comes with the shaft & drive tube assembly. So if that is the part you need, you would have to replace this part. Good luck with your repair.
