Restored Ice Making Function - Video Gave Me Confidence to Do it Myself
I had the classic problem of an icicle forming on the short supply "straw" coming out of the back of the unit down to the ice mold on my 20 year old Kitchenaid refrigerator. The only reference on the internet to this problem was here at PartSelect.
Installing the part was easy. I do recommend trimming an inch or so of all plastic tubing with a $6 Malida Pipe Tube Hose Cutter -- this assures the o-rings are gripping a virgin section of tube)..
The only hard part of the repair was spending an hour flat on the floor vacuuming twenty years worth of dust bunnies under the fridge (you're supposed to vacuum those coils every month right?). After a month of buying ice at the store and putting it in the dispenser drawer what a thrill to see our old ice-maker begin chunking out full trays again.

For a year the filler tube would freeze up and stop all water flow. I would remove it and use a heat gun on it. Very pleased with the outcome after a week as well as the videos and complests parts needed. The fill tube didn’t need shorthing and was used as it came. Adding, easy to replace and connect to the water supply line. My refrigerator location made the repair a little difficult ( small kitchen) but with patience it all went well. Not as difficult if access to the back side is easier. Not the fault of the parts supplied! Also to mention, I vacuumed out 20 years of dust from the coils while I had the back off. Same for the front side. A must do often to extend the life and air circulation.
Initial problem was water not entering the icemaker. Replacing the valve assembly did not solve the problem. Further investigation revealed the inflow tube to he icemaker had frozen water in it. Cleaned the ice our and water flowed a bit but not enough to fill the tray. Still investigating the problem.

Started the replacement of the existing dual outlet valve by removing cardboard covering the lower back of the refrigerator exposing the outlet valve. Closed the water supply valve at the wall. Removed the hose bibb water supply connection on the outlet valve by hand as it is only hand-tight. I used a small plastic container to catch the
... Read more minimal amount of water left in the copper line. I removed the electrical connection on each solenoid valve (one for the in-door water supply and one for the icemaker supply). I removed the plastic supply lines from the outlet valve. I removed the screws on the bracket attaching the dual outlet valve to the refrigerator vertical rail. I reconnected the electrical connectors to the valve. I reattached the plastic supply lines to the valve, but did not tighten them fully at this point. I secured the bracket on the new valve to the existing screwholes on the refrigerator rail. The new outlet valve does not have a hose bibb connector, it has a compression fitting for the supply. I reused the existing copper supply line from the wall angle-stop valve to reconnect to the new outlet valve. (It would have been best to have cut the copper line and used a new furrel on the copper line). Note that the supply line now comes into the outlet valve from the top, not the rear as on the old valve, so now the dual outlet valve sticks out beyond the frame of the refrigerator. I tightened the nuts on the plastic supply lines on the valve. I had to cut the cardboard cover around the new outlet valve. Resecured the cardboard cover to the back of the frig. Checked for leaks, turned the icemaker on by lowering the shutoff arm, and after a few moments, the outlet valve opened, water flowed into the icemaker, and all is well.

Ice maker water outlet freezes and prevents flow
Get refrigerator out away from the wall. Disconnect from power. Loosen 3 and remove 3 or 4 screws to uncover fan, compressor and water inlet valve (WIV). By hand remove plastic hoses that feed the water dispenser and ice maker feed. Unscrew 2 screws that hold WIV her you need the Spring U Joint (SUJ) or equivalent. Pull wires and make men
... Read moretal note or picture the way they fit. They retain the memory the way they came out. With adjustable or wrench remove tube that comes from the filter. Remover black rubber protector from WIV. Install the last hose you removed. Tighten by hand and finish with the wrench used to remove it. Don't over tighten. Maybe 3/4 turn or less after hand tight will do. The difficult part is to re-install the screws that hold the WIV in place, again you need the SUJ. The alternative would be to empty the shelves from anything that will spill or break and have someone tilt the refrigerator and access from below. I used the 1st method as I didn't have the extra help. Install the water dispenser hose (by hand), blow compressed air to the ice dispenser hose to clear the ice. There is another plastic hose just above and behind the dispenser which must be removed to clear the ice that is being blown. After the ice is clear re-install the one in the freezer. That one is just pressure held be careful not to break when replacing it. Re-install by hand the ice dispenser hose to the WIV. Replace the cardboard cover that was 1st removed to access the components. Power the refrigerator and you are ready to make fresh ice. My ice maker lever was stuck at 1st. I released pressure from the metal wire lever and wiggled up and down several times to loosen up.

When replacing a water valve, my old one has threaded lines, and the new replacement part has quick disconnect fittings. How can I make this work?
Hello Don,
Thanks for your question. You will need to shut off the water supply, then cut off the retaining nuts from the existing water lines. Afterwards, gently push the water lines into the new valve. Depress the rings the tubes slide into to remove the water lines.

Our ice maker was not working. The ice water spigot is working. I replaced the dual outlet valve kit (part select number ps358630). Again, the ice water spigot is working, but the ice maker is not drawing water from the dual outlet valve kit. The line appears to be open. It is not frozen and i can blow through it. Why didn't this replacement solve my problem? Any ideas?

Hello Mark, Thank you for your inquiry. Make sure that the water inlet valve is getting sufficient water pressure-should be 20 psi. You can also test the water inlet valve with a multimeter to make sure you did not receive a defective one. If the water valve tests ok, and the line is not clogged, test the ice maker and the ice module. We have included a link on how to test the ice maker and the ice module. Scroll down to the section on ice maker assembly, and it will advise on how to test both parts. Hope this helps!

Does this model have an anti drip valve?

Hi Ferd, The appliance came with the Anti Drip Valve but it is no longer made and the Water Dispenser Fitting and Tube Assembly,PartSelect Number PS886371 has been redesigned so it is longer needed.Hope this helps!

I just received my dual outlet valve kit part # ps358630, i'm not familiar with the water connection to the valve, instead of a plastic compression fitting that screws on, it appears to be some kind of fitting that you just push the tubing into the connector. Can you give me some instructions on this? It appears you just push the two different sizes of tubing into the slots?
