This is a genuine OEM thrust spacer for your washer, and is also commonly known as a retainer ring. The spacer is about 2.5 inches in diameter, is made of plastic, and is white in color. It is used in the agitator assembly of many direct drive washing machine models. The spacer is fitted between the agitator and the agitator auger to support it as it moves. This part is sold individually. Although it is not included in this part, you should have some dual-action agitator grease for the repair as well.

Needed cam dogs too
I had to replace this part because it was clearly worn out, but I wish the heart description would have suggested replacing the cam dogs at the same time, because both parts play a role in the problem described. When the thrust spacer didn't fix the problem, I had to pay postage a second time to get the can dogs. Both parts are so cheap, they ought to suggest buying them together, or just bundle them.

Agitator loose spinning
Three of the four agitator cogs had broken. The agitator was able to spin freely both clockwise encounter clockwise which it should not be doing. I replaced the cogs as well as a couple additional parts just to be sure but the cogs were the important one. Very easy.
Once water filled up it would kick off and no action from the agitator..just a buzzing sound..

Read moreices made this no big deal at all..The inner seal was easily exchanged out and the agitator direction cogs were simply replaced..they were a bit wore down but nothing broke...and the reassemble was easy...biggest trouble I had were the clamps holding the switch box on the top they were pretty simple to remove by the instruction video and the direct drive coupler was exactly like the video instructed and was simply replaced..again nothing broke but extreme wear on the inner square was nearly wore to more of a circle shape which I believe was my problem. .The clamps holding the top back in place we're very tricky for me but I got them...plugged everything back up turned it on and the washer filled up and then kicked back into action just like new...I was very happy as well as was my wife to fixed what normally would have been 400 to 500$ repair bill or twice that for a new washer for 4 parts under 30$ and it's now just like new..Thank you !! ... Read moreh. I think they've been broken 15 years but didn't happen to make noise before. if the top piece of the agitator were called the circulator, I would have figured it out years ago. On full loads, clothes didn't circulate very well and tended to come out with deposits of lint. I think friction from a coating of soap scum kept the circulator moving enough to fool me, but it wasn't doing its job. I heated baking soda in water on the stove to make washing soda. I soaked the parts to remove soap scum, paying special attention to the ring of cogs that the dogs would engage. I replaced the thrust spacer because it was cracked. I didn't feel any grease or see any wear, so I think the only function for grease would be to prevent squeaks. Now, with a full load, clothes and water circulate better than I remember.
Removed agitator cover with small screwdriver. Removed bolt holding agitator with socket on 6" extender. Pulled agitator up and out. Replaced thrust spacer adding tiny amount of silicone grease. Hello i have a Roper washing machine that will fill with water and spin, but the agitator only seems to move about 1/2 an inch (maybe 1/30 of a rotation) back and forth. I replaced the dog ears and thrust washer and the splines on the drive block appear normal. If i spin the agitator by hand it moves (with what feels like normal friction) and the dogs catch as they should. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!

Hello Erin, thank you for your question. To diagnose the agitating problem, I would recommend pulling the agitator out and see if the shaft is rotating to move the agitator when in the wash cycle. If not then it is a problem with the gearcase. If it is then the agitator splines may not be catching on the shaf, and would need to be replaced. I hope this helps!
