The water inlet valve on your refrigerator allows water to enter the ice maker and water dispenser. If your ice maker or water dispenser is not functioning properly, or you notice a leak, you may need to replace the single outlet valve. This single outlet valve has 1/4-inch compressions fittings and is intended for use with refrigerators that make crescent-shaped ice cubes. As per the manufacturer, this valve has a new quick connection. You must cut the retaining nut off your current plastic water line, and gently push it into the new valve. Be sure to disconnect the water and power sources from the refrigerator before you begin this repair.

Ice maker not making ice!
Pulled the fridge from the wall. Then shut the water line to the fridge off. Pulled the water line to the ice maker out the old grommet. Then a screw or two from the cover over the bottom back of the fridge, so I could get to the outlet valve kit. Only 1 screw was holding that. Then took the lines off the old outlet valve. Took the little
... Read more hose off the grommet on the inside of the freezer that leads the water into the drip pan to the cube tray of the ice maker. Then grabbed pliers for the grommet on the top back of the fridge. And pulled and twisted alittle till it came out. It was alittle hard but got it out. Cleaned the out sticky tape off around the hole where the grommet connects. Hook the water like that goes to the grommet for the ice maker to the new grommet. Peeled the paper of the sticky tape for the new grommet. And placed it in. Then connected the rest of my water lines to the inlet valve. Put everything back the way it was. Then plugged and turned the water back on. And in 2hrs or so I had ice fall in the tray and continues to make ice no problems. “Note also I didn’t actually unplug my fridge I did it all why it was plugged. Thought it would be best to let you know. LoL but a small socket 1/4 with a 1/4 drive or worked. Also I think my grommet was harder to get out cuz it was froze due to the water leaking in the grommet.
Removed the old water valve from back of refrigerator by using a screwdriver. Pulled water line off old valve that runs into the fridge and inserted it into the new part. I used a pair of pliers to take off water line that runs into the water valve from the house. Screwed the water line back onto the new valve. Took about 10 minutes.

I'm not a DIY-er, and wasn't sure a 20 year old refrigerator was worth the repair, but for $30 I could afford to be wrong. Removed old valve easily. New WR57XI0033 valve is designed to mount on lower left, but on mine it has to mount on lower right. Had to drill two 1/32 holes in lower rail to mount the new valve.

The old solenoid was slow to shut off causing the icemaker to overfill.
Unplug refrigerator and turn water supply off to the ice maker. Remove the screws holding the bottom cardboard-like cover from the lower back of the refrigerator. Remove the water supply line to the old solenoid with 1/2 inch wrench. Unplug the two power supply wires to the old solenoid. Remove the screw that holds the solenoid to the bac

The configuration of the replacement solenoid is likely a little different than the original, but it seems to be rather universal and will fit back into place and perform properly. The new solenoid does not use a compression type nut to secure the output line. It's just a simple push-in connection. The wires may have to be rerouted a little, just keep them clear of the evaporator fan blades Reverse the removal procedure and you're done.

This is a relatively simple repair, but requires a bit of running around your house and sitting in a likely cramped space on the floor behind your refrigerator. These steps assume you have verified the valve is leaking and not the lines. 1. Locate where the water line to the fridge connects to the house plumbing. Close the next valve i
... Read moren the house plumbing upstream of this connection. Open some fixture (likely the cold on the kitchen sink) to relieve water pressure in this section of plumbing. Water should flow briefly, then dribble and stop on its own. 2. Unplug your fridge. There are moving parts (a fan) close to the valve that may injure you while you are working. 3. Pull your fridge away from the wall enough so you can scoot behind and sit behind. 4. Gather your tools and parts and squeeze behind the fridge. 5. Remove the felt paper dust cover. Carefully collect the screws. 6. Take a picture of the electrical connection to the valve or make a mental note. 7. Carefully unclip lines from the fridge and remove screws holding valve to fridge body. Slicing a line will create a new problem to fix. Carefully collect the screws. 8. Remove electrical connection. Grasp the connector and pull firmly. Do not yank the wires. 9. Over the bucket, disconnect old valve from lines. Some residual water will flow out. If the stream is steady, double check that Step 1 is completed correctly. Set old valve aside. 10. Examine new valve to determine water input and outlet. There may be an arrow indicating flow direction. 11. Seat the input line in the valve input firmly and connect. Mine was a nut I tightened with a small crescent wrench. 12. Seat the outlet line in the valve outlet firmly and connect. Mine was a push in quick connect. 14. Rest the valve over the bucket. Get up and turn the water back on. Verify your connections are not leaking. 15. Review your picture and reconnect the electrical connection. 16. Install the new valve onto the fridge body. Mine was a different geometry that required some gentle bending of the mounting bracket. Reclip lines to fridge. 17. While you're down there, vacuum underneath your fridge. 18. Reinstall felt paper dust cover. 19. Plug fridge back in. Clean up. 20. Monitor your ice maker, verify good operation. When satisfied, push fridge back. Recycle(?) old valve. 21. Success!

Mounting bracket did not fit. Retainer for water input looked like a thread protector.
Put bracket on workbench and hit two or three times with hammer. Glad I did not remove water inlet retainer from part, it can very easily be mistaken for a thread protector.

For months, my icemaker was producing near hollow ice cubes. It recently stopped. I discovered the filter attached to the water source was blocked. I replaced the filter and the water now makes it to the single outlet valve kit, but never out of the valve to the line to the icemaker. From what i read here, because of the condition of the ice when it worked, i may only need to replace the valve kit. Can you confirm this theory and that part number wr57x10033 may be the solution? Additionally, the fittings to/from the current supply lines are copper nuts. If i need a part to connect the 1/4 inch line to this outlet value, please suggest part numbers. Old refrigerator, but i'd like to keep it in service. Thanks

Hi Matthew, thank you for your question. It certainly sounds like you are on the right track. There are really two parts that you should check for this issue. The first part to test would be your water inlet valve. The valve can be tested with a multi meter and should be reading between 500 - 1500 ohms of resistance. If that part is testing correctly then you should look into your ice maker being the issue. Good luck with your repair.
