Product Description

Door Hinge Shim Specifications

This is the replacement door hinge shim, or riser cam shim for your refrigerator. It is made of metal and is approximately 2 inches in length, and 1 inch in width. Your refrigerator will have a door hinge shim on each door, and each shim is sold individually. The door hinge shim will have three holes in it; one larger hole, and two smaller ones. The door hinge shim is found on the bottom of your refrigerator door, and the main reason for replacing it is if it is torn or damaged. When you are completing this repair, the door will be briefly unsupported. As a result, it is recommended to remove everything from the door to make it as light as possible, and to ensure that the items in the door don’t fall out. This is an OEM part from the manufacturer.

Refrigerator Door Would Not Close
Kenmore 24 cu.ft. Side by Side Refrigerator. The bottom cam on the fresh food side of our refrigerator broke causing the door to stay open about 4 inches. We had to lift the door up about an inch to close it. We removed the top bracket cover by removing one screw with a screwdriver. We then removed two screws with a ratchet and socket, to remove the top bracket, which allowed us to lift the door up and off of the refrigerator. We removed two screws with a socket to remove the Door Cam and Shim. We replace the Shim, and Door Cam with the two screws. Make sure you line the Cam up with the hole it goes over, and tighten it up. Place the door over the bottom bracket, and replace and adjust the top bracket and cover.

Hinge cam riser wore out and split into peices
I checked the exploded view of the door assembly and the box assembly and determined the parts needed to properly solve the problem. I guessed correctly that the lower cam on the hinge assembly should be replaced at the same time since they had to work together. It ended up I had just the right parts and all of the nut head fasteners were the same size so only one wrench was needed. The door did have to be removed by detaching the top hinge as well.

Broken cam riser on door. New draw rail.
The repair was simple. I removed the screws to the door hinge at the top of the refrigerator and lifted the door off. I removed the door support attached to the base of the refrigerator and replace it with the new support held on by two screws. I put the door back on, aligned it, and replaced the screws on top. Total time: 7 minutes. Works like a charm. To all at parts select, you have a great site with easy to identify parts diagrams. Replacing the side rail to the draw took 45 seconds with two simple screws.

Hinge at base of doors cracked and broke causing door to slip down when opened
Note difference between Freezer and Fresh food door.
Also, did not need the Door Stop but should have ordered one water tube union (PS299116). See Freezer below

Fresh Food Door
1. Removed cap at top of fresh food door (Philips screw) and used socket wrench to remove two hex head screws from top of refrigerator.
2. This allowed door to be lifted off base.
3. Removed door stop, hinge shim and broken cam riser from door using socket set and nut driver. Two hex head screws.
4. Replaced all three parts with new parts, re-attached using existing Hex Screws. Make sure cam riser is aligned properly to allow door to fit back on hinge. If it's slightly off, the door will not settle on hinge properly.
5. Replaced door, make sure it aligns properly before tightening Hex Screws to top of Refrigerator. Replaced cap at top.

Same process for freezer door except:
a. At the top of the door, I had an electrical connection due to Ice/water dispenser in the door. This connection is fairly easy to disconnect.
b. There is a drain tube that runs inside the door and through the hinge assembly in the base of the door. The door can not be removed unless the tube is disconnected or cut. There was a Water Tube Union (PS299116) just beyond the bottom hinge which I was able to disassemble to free the tube. However, this took considerable force and luck and I would recommend you consider buying a new part in case it breaks or you need to cut the tube. Otherwise you will not be able to get the door off. Once the tube is disconnected, it easily slides through the hinge and the door can be removed.

Uneven fridge door that wouldn't stay closed
With my wife's help and following tips from previous posts, I removed the top hinge screws and lifted the door off the bottom hinge. The shim was old shim and both upper and lower cams were totally flat. I drilled out the rivet in the bottom hinge, replaced the cam and secured the cam with a pan head bolt and nut. I replaced the cam and shim on the door and rehung the dorr. The upper screws were screwed back into place and ta da -- now the door closes and stays closed without sticking that little piece of cardboard between the doors.

My doors were not lining up so sensors we showing open door.
I emptied the frige door of all the goods and unsrewed 3 screws in the top of the door. I lifted the door off the shaft and installed the new parts. I set the door back down on the shaft and reattached the screws in top of door. It took longer to empty the door and restock it than it did to replace the part.
