The selector knob is what you use to start the dryer. This replacement knob comes with a retaining clip. This is a very easy repair, the only tool you may need is a pair of needle nose pliers. Remove the existing knob by pulling it off, making sure to remove the retaining clip as well. Line up the new knob with the D-shaped shaft and slide it into place.

Hello Renee,
Thank you for your question.
The shaft is part of the rotary start switch and the whole switch would need to be replaced once the shaft is broken. For your model the switch is part number PS268305.

Hi. When i select timed drying it will advance/shut off way before it's suppose to for example if 20 min is selected,it might shut off in half the time and if i select say automatic cotton's,it won't advance at all and will only shut off if i turn the timer or open the door. What part do u think i need to replace?
For model number DBXR453ET5AA
Hi Andrew, Thank you for your question. There are a few parts that you will have to test to see if they are working correctly. You will have to test both your high limit thermostat and your cycling thermostats. You may also want to test your interlock, and door switch as well to determine what is wrong. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Selector knob is broken and even using a pair of pliers, the washing machine now won't spin
For model number WBSR1060
Hi Wendy,
Thank you for your question. If you require a new selector knob, the part number for it is PS271094. If you are using a pair of pliers to turn the shaft that the knob goes on, you will need to replace the switch that the shaft attaches to. This selector knob is used for the the water level pressure switch, part number PS269790, and the temperature switch, part number PS3499718. If you know which switch you need, please let us know and we would be happy to place the order for you. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Replaced broken START knob on dryer.
Slid off the old START knob, then pushed on the new START knob.
I created and printed a label on my computer for use with the time selector dial, which must be set at or beyond 10 minutes, before turning the START knob.
I made a label that says "Minimum" with a red arrow that points past the 10 minute setting on the time selector dial.
My teenage daughter was not setting the time selector dial, to a point past 10 minutes. When she turned the START knob, the dryer would not come on, because the time selector dial was not set past the 10 minute setting.
My daughter had continually twisted the START knob until it broke. I am hoping she will be able to see the large printed label I put on the dryer near the time selector, saying "Minimum" with a large red arrow pointing past 10 minutes.
I am very pleased that I was quickly able to find the exact matching START knob for my dryer and the exact same color, from PartSelect.Com

Dryer making grinding noises
We live in a Condominium, space is tight especially in the Utility room where the washer/dryer are located. Turned dryer breaker off at the electical panel. Removed the top cover and front assembly w/door and front drum support, right where the unit was located. Had to gain rear access to loosen drum drive belt so undid the dryer vent hose to floor connection through a front acess hole. Moved the unit out to the breakfast nook as well as disconnecting the power cable from the wall socket. Removed the rear access panel covers and unhooked the drive belt. At the front removed the top screws off the lower cross member to allow spreading of the side covers to allow the removal of the drum. Removed drum and found the bearing bushing gone, reduced to powder. Using the supplied instuction sheet, replaced the rear bearing assembly, replaced the drum after vacumming the whole interior and started the reassembly of the unit using the new belt and moved the unit back into place. Reconnected the power cable and dryer vent then lastly replaced the lint filter and selector knob. Closed the breaker and turned on the machine, no noise!!! Incidently I am 78 years old. Thanks PartSelect.
Start Knob Had Broken A Couple Of Years Ago & Used Pliers To Start Dryer & This Wore Down The Start Switch
I removed 4 or 5 screws on the back of the compartment that holds the start switch. I removed 1 screw that held the start switch in & pulled off two wires that connected to the old start switch & connected them to the new start switch. I then put all of the screws back in and everything worked fine. Very easy repair.
One of the easiest repair jobs I've ever done. First I turned off the power. After removing 4 screws and lowering the cover of the control board, I disconnected the two wires attached to the switch. I rotated the switch counterclockwise and removed it. Just reverse this process and I was done. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes.
I removed the back of the panel, unplugged the dryer, removed the two wire connections, removed the one screw that held the part in place, removed the old switch, put the new one in then followed the above procedure in reverse.
Switch knob and shaft broke off from using pliers.
Unplugged dryer. Removed screws from top of operating panel. Removed wires from switch. Turned switch 1/4 turn to left and removed. Replaced switch. Turned 1/4 to the right. Re-attached wires. Replaced operating panel and screws. Replaced knob. Plugged in dryer. DONE!!!!!! Easiest repair ever! Thank you.
Just followed the installation video. The only issue with the video was that a phillips screwdriver was specified and I actually needed a torx screwdriver.

It worked great!
I bought the knob AND the switch. The knob is easy to install of course, but the switch was a more complicated install. Using the video as a guide, I was able to install the whole thing easily. Very pleased!

Slow Delivery
It took 10 days to receive my part. When I checked tracking it said that the barcode was unreadable when they received it and had to be replaced. The packaging was in pretty bad shape when I received it. But thankfully the part was not damaged. Thanks to the video on the Partselect website the repair went well.
