This V-shaped drive belt is 29 1/2 inches long x 1/2-inch-wide, and fits both front-load and top-load washing machines. When belts are worn or frayed, they are known to make noise. If you have a top-load washer, a drive belt may be connecting the transmission to the drive motor. It would generally be a rubber V-belt covered in fabric to allow free movement. Or it could be a rubber belt aided by a tensioning device like an idler pulley, to stop the motor from causing too much friction to the belt. Hub washer replacement
I noticed a loud noise during the spin cycle, I purchased a bearing, but after taking the washer apart, I realized that the hub was worn out, I replaced the bearing and other parts to put it back in running condition, it was a worthwhile job, and cost saving. I have to thank partselect for the helpful videos.

loud noise when spining
I did watch the video, that Parts Select included in an email. After that just follow the instructions in the video. You do need two people to do the job, since the belt needs to be tight. One for holding and one to tight the screws.

It wouldn't spin!
Could smell burning rubber as it tried to spin, so figured it was the belt. No, I did no do it the hard way by removing the screws etc. I threaded the belt on the pulleys on one side, and slowly turned them, using my fingers to force thread the belt into place. Worked like a charm.

Washing Machine Pump
The website was tremendous. Everything was right there, easy to understand. The 'repair' video was outstanding; made it sooooo much easier. Would use this site over and over again (but hope I don't have to use it that much! lol).
Agitator was not working during wash, would during end spin cycle
The worst part was removing the agitator. I finally found a thread that explained you have to pull directly up to release the 'clips' that held the agitator to the coupler. I was thrilled that the diagnosis (with the complete help of this website) was right and that was all it took. Coupler arrived within 2 days. I also ordered the belt, in case that was the problem, and a new nut (good thing, mine was rusted). Thank God this was the solution- especially since my 5 yr old has the stomach flu and I have lots of laundry- no time for the machine to be down! Fantastic customer service and help diagnosing problem on this site!!

My washer doesn't agitate or spin but sounds like it does. Door latch is fine and i just replaced the drive belt but it still won't work. I'm thinking of replacing the agitator block next. Any ideas?

Thank you for your inquiry. I would suggest taking a look at that part and seeing if it is stripped or broken in any way. If it looks fine though, you may have to look into your transmission and motor. It could be that those parts are trying to work but they are not. Also check your drain pump and motor as well. That can also cause a machine not to agitate if the pump cannot drain. First take a look through the pump filter and see if there are any blockages. Good luck with your repair.

My washer drains/spins and dispenses fabric softener when its empty or has a few items in it. It will drain, but not spin a half or full load. My clothes are soaked. I have already checked the lid connection (by resetting) and took the white hose from the pump and found no obstruction. (not sure if its normal, but there wasn't a filter in the pump either) the little fan type thingy in the pump, wasn't easy to move, but moved). Seems this all happened after a load of towels. The drum seems to move around to easily, but not sure if that's normal either. Help!! i have a kid who plays hockey :)

Hi Mary, thank you for your question. Yes, if your appliance will no longer spin when you have medium to heavier loads, I would suggest checking your belt first. That part does wear down over time and it might have just worn down with the heavier load you were doing. Also you are generally not supposed to force that impeller in your drain pump to move because that can burn out the motor. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Front panel dose not remove from the cabinet rear access only how do i access belt to replace
Hello Jeff, Thank you for your inquiry. I was able to find the following instructions for changing the belt with rear access only for a GE washer. You can remove the back cover by taking out the screws. Remove the coupling between the motor and the pump, removed the belt, you may want to clean the grease off of the pulley. Put the new belt on the smaller pulley, put the new belt on the larger pulley as much as I could, and then turned the larger pulley until the belt jumped on the pulley. I put the coupling back on between the motor and the pump, putting on the lower clamp first and then the upper clamp. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your response. The machine agiates and spins beautifully while empty. Replaced belt (old one was in perfect condition), took off agitator coupling and it seems perfect too. The spine grooves were covered in globs of,i'm assuming fabric softener. Cleaned that and it still wont spin with clothes in it. What next?

Hello Mary, Thank you for contacting us. The next part to check would be the Capacitor, PartSelect Number PS3406186. This part increases the voltage to the drive motor to help get up to speed. If the capacitor is good, you may have a defective motor, PartSelect Number PS756764. There will be to wire leads connected to the motor. Disconnect the motor's two wire leads from the wiring harness. Set your multimeter to the R x 1 setting. Touch each of the meter's probes to one terminal each. Your motor should show little resistance (a reading of zero, or close to zero). Now check the ground connection. Place one probe on the bare metal housing of the motor. Place the other probe on each terminal, one at a time. You should not receive any reading on your meter from this test. If your washer's motor fails either of these tests, you will have to replace it. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!
Upon starting the agitation cycle (both wash & rinse), there is a series of loud squeaking / groaning noises, (somewhat like damp rubber soled shoes on a linoleum floor) that seem to coincide with each movement of the agitator. The noises subside after a couple of minutes and go away until the next cycle that "agitates". It then repeats. The fill, drain, & spin cycles have no issues or unusual sounds. Any suggestions?

Washer fills and agitates and drains but doesn't spin. Lid shut off switch seems ok -- stops machine in agitate. Drive belt seems ok, not too worn or lose and works fine in agitate mode. Motor just doesn't activate belt in spin mode.

Thank you for your inquiry. You will probably want to check your drain pump and motor next. If that part is not working then you will not go into your drain/spin cycle. You can just give this part a visual inspection and then test it with a multi-meter to see if the electrical is fine as well. Hotpoint top loading washer agitates and spins intermittently.Everything else seems to be working.This situation does not allow clothes to expel water making them heavy and difficult to dry. Does this sound like a worn out belt or some other problem? Btw we did detect a burning rubber smell before we observed these problems.

Hello Donna, thank you for your question. There are a few parts you will want to check, the
V-Style Drive Belt
Part Number: WH1X2026, and the pulley that the belt rides on, which is attached to the motor. The motor might be running but it might be seizing up and turning easily. If the motor pulley is hard to turn the motor will have to be replaced. It would also be a good idea to check the Clutch and Retaining Clip Part Number: WH5X256 and the Transmission and Brake Assembly Part Number: WH38X10002 for any wear and tear. I hope this helps!

Washer does not spin on any setting. It fills, agitates, and drains. No spin. Checking it we tilted it so we could see underneath and we put it through its paces (water d/ced) and the motor kicks in and belt turns to agitate, but when it comes to spin cycles (any spin cycle) motor does not turn on and belt does not move. Note again -- belt turns when agitating. Motor does not turn on (pump does) and belt does not turn at spin. Need some help on this.

Hello Janice, Thank you for the question. I suggest replacing the Lid Switch Assembly, PartSelect Number PS5135698. The point of the lid switch is for the tub to stop spinning when the washer lid is opened. It is a safety precaution just in case someone decides to stick their hand inside the washer while the tub is spinning.
