I have a GE dryer, model# dpvh890ej1ww and i recently replaced the 30a 220v circuit breaker because the dryer would trip the breaker after about 1-2 minutes of operation. The breaker did not trip when in 'fluff' mode (no heat). After replacing the circuit breaker, the dryer will not trip the circuit breaker, but rather, it just stops and the power button on the front returns to flashing mode. Question: What components do i need to trouble shoot (i.E., with a multimeter) and how? I'm thinking this could be the heating element (item# 514 mica unit (5400w) part number: Ps2353950 or one of the thermostats (i saw three on the parts breakdown, item#s 505, 506, and 507). Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Thank you for your question. Yes, you would test both the high limit thermostat and the thermal cut off switches on your heating element. Also it would be good to test your heating element as well. Set you meter to the lowest setting for resistance. All of the parts should be showing zero if they are working correctly. If your meter does not move at all, the part is broken. After a load is dry we remove the laundry and put the next load in. The dryer will not start for some time like it needs to cool down. But it does not seem to hot inside. Any ideas?

My dryer will run for about 7 minutes and run fine then shut completely off when it gets hot. Runs without stopping while on the fluff/no heat cycle. Tested the blower motor thermostat and the cycling thermostat and they both kick out when brought up to temp. Any other ideas what it could be?

Replaced the timer a couple times because dryer did not heat. This fixed the problem for a few months but it is happening again. After reading more, it looks like maybe the heating element but that part does not come up when searched. A safety thermostat is what pops up when searched. Reading that info, it doesn't seem to describe what is happening. We get no heat. What do you recommend?

The element for your appliance is Part Number: PS9494500.I suggest testing the Cycling Thermostat, Part Number: PS267926, the Safety Thermostat, Part Number: PS267911 and the High Limit Thermostat, Part Number: PS267900. If one of these parts are defective it can cause the others to blow and you will not have heat in the dryer. Hope this helps!

The dryer runs for about 10 minutes then shuts off. I need to wait 30 minutes then it will start. After doing this 2 or 3 times, the clothes are finally dry. All vents are clean and I am not sure if the dryer is overheating or not. From previous questions it seems likely this could be the high limit thermostat, the inlet control thermostat and/or the safety thermostat. Short of replacing all three thermostats, is there a way to determine which one is the culprit? Continuity?

Thank you for your question. To determine which switch is causing the issue, you will need to test them for continuity with a multimeter. The multimeter should be set to the Rx1 setting when performing this test. If the thermostat is fine, you should receive a reading of zero or infinity. Dryer will start and run only by pushing and holding start button. Releasing start button makes dryer quit running. Timer and cycle selector work just fine, but dryer will not keep running unless start button is held in on position. I have replaced start switch, which i bought from partselect, but it does not fix problem. Heat works fine, timer works fine, cycle selector works fine. Simple fix that isn't simple at all. Any suggestions?

Well it seems like the only thing that you have not checked yet is your door switch. I would suggest removing that part and testing it with a multi-meter to check and see if it has gone bad. If your door switch has gone back, your appliance will not continue with the cycle as it believes that the door is still open and it is not safe to continue. I hope this helps! You will need to check the cycling thermostat, the high limit thermostat, the interlock switch, the timer, the bias thermostat, the door catch and strike, the belt and the drum bearing slides. The dryer works fine until it gets real hot then shuts off and have to wait 5 minutes or so before it will restart. Is this the safety thermostat going out? It hasn't done this before.

Dryer works but gets hotter than it used to on hi sometimes too hot so i figure it`s the high temp thermostat what do you think???
