Drain Hose Specifications

This drain hose is an OEM, manufacturer-approved replacement part for your dishwasher. The drain hose filters out the wastewater from the dishwasher. If there is a hole in it, water will leak out of your dishwasher. Shut off the water and power to the unit before beginning this repair. Accessing the drain hose involves unscrewing the dishwasher and pulling it out. Remove the clamp holding the hose in place to its connection under the sink, using a 5/16ths socket. Disconnect the fill line. Use a 1/4 inch nut driver to loosen the clamp at the other end of the drain hose. Keep a towel handy for any water still inside. Keep the clamps for use on your new drain hose. Reinstall all hoses and lines in reverse order.

Water leaking onto the floor
I removed the dishwasher, removed the front kick panel, layed the dishwasher on its back, loosened the clamps and removed the old motor and pump assy. Cleaned up the area where the unit was, Installed the new unit, tightened the clamps and it was done. Probably took around an hour because of my cleaning up the sealing areas.

Water not draining from dishwasher
I had never done work on my dishwasher - I was a rookie in this area. Turns out the work itself was quite simple. Pulled the dishwasher out, turned it over, and was able to easily replace the motor and pump assembly. The drain tube was also an easy replace. A couple key notes:

1. I also purchased a new drain solenoid and impeller kit. Note that both of these items are already included in the Motor and Pump kit replacement. There is no need to by both, now I have extras.

2. The end of the drain tube has to be trimmed if you are routing the drain tube to an air gap mounted on your kitchen sink. You have to cut the large diameter end of the tube to get to the narrow portion that will fit on your air gap.

3. The first cycle you run with the new motor/pump assembly is noisy. When you first fire it up the components in the pump are all dry, and they squeal until the water gets to them. I initially thought I had done something wrong, but once the water started flowing all the peculiar sounds cleared up.

We use our dishwasher once a month or so. The dishwasher drain/dicharge hose connects to the garbage disposal. Has worked fine for 20 years. Now, all of a sudden, we have stinking water, with soap, sitting in the bottom of the dishwasher after the dishwasher has not been used for 2-3 weeks. The dishwasher tub was bone dry after the last use. What's happened/changed?
For model number gsd400t-64wa

HI Mel, thank you for your question. It sounds like your drain hose might simply be clogged or out of place. The water would certainly stink as it sounds like it is drain water from your last load or whatever comes from the sink itself. Check to see if your drain hose is clogged, if it is clogged the water you are getting back into your dishwasher is the drain water from your last load. What might be more likely is that your drain hose is out of place. There should be a curve in your hose line that goes above the bottom of your sink. Generally it is attached up as close to the counter as possible. You need to have a U shape in the hose that goes above the bottom of your sink there so that no water drained from your sink goes into the dishwasher through the drain hose. If you have no clogs and the drain line is properly placed, the only other thing I could think of is the drain pump is damaged and cannot force the dirtied water from the dishwasher down into the drain of your sink. You might have to look into replacing that part. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Hello Jim, Thank you for the question. The end that attaches to the pump should be approx. 5/8 in. I.D. or 7/8 in. O.D. We hope this helps!

When draining, water is coming out of the vent on the sink. The hose that is shown is way too long to replace the hose needed? There is also a horrible smell as well
For model number GSD2200G00WW
PartSelect logo
Hello Antonette, thank you for your question. There might be an issue with the drain pump/hose in the unit. If the dirty water is able to come back into the washer, it can leave a bad smell in the unit and the dishes wouldn't be getting as clean as they should be. I would check to see if there is water left at the bottom of the washer after the cycle has been completed. If there is, you should replace the drain pump and sump kit. When you say the water is coming out of the vent on the sink, do you mean the water is coming back up the sink drain, when the unit is draining? If you could provide a little more information and resubmit the question we can do some more research for you! Have a great day, look forward to hearing from you!
