Product Description

Door Latch Specifications

This door latch keeps the microwave door closed during operation. The latch is approximately 7 inches long and has 2 hooks to ensure that the door closes properly. The hooks also contact the door switches to provide power to the controls. The microwave will not start unless the door is properly closed, so if you notice that the microwave door is not staying closed, check to ensure that the latch is in working order and is not damaged. The latch assembly is made of plastic and has a spring attached to provide downward tension to keep the hooks engaged. If either of the hooks is broken or does not have any spring tension, you may need to replace the door latch. Before beginning this repair, make sure to unplug the unit and remove the inner door panel to access the door latch.

Bad door latch kept microwave from working properly or not at all
Electrolux Microwave oven Model EI30BM6OMSA door latch and spring

We were having problems with our Electrolux Microwave oven Model EI30BM6OMSA over the range. The touchpad was working intermittently, counting down without any beep or any sound, and it sometimes kept going after the end of a cycle. We tried first to check the switches. They tested ok. Then we noticed that holding the door slightly up after closing did produce normal operations. The spring felt ok, but the door latches looked a little worn down.
We ordered the PartSelect #:PS2582995 door latch and the PartSelect #:PS1993448 spring.
Removing the inner door plastic cover is a delicate job. Very easy to break the thin catches but we only snapped one (does not show when reinstalled). The inner plastic door liner has to be removed completely.
Removing the door latch part however was a problem. On most videos, it looks easy but not on this model. We had to gently pry/lift plastic hooks on the sides of the glass in order to give enough clearance to remove/reinstall the latch/spring.
Then we were done basically. Everything works now! Woohoo

MW wouldn't stop running- not heating, just running
Went through some anxious hours when I found that the MW would not turn off. The only way was to leave the door open. Not a solution. Tried a appliance repair that I knew, they didn't work on MWs. Spoke to the manufacturer, for $99 would come out and then tell me the real cost to fix. After more searching, even to maybe getting a new MW, (which necessitates getting a new bracket for the over the stove MW. They evidently are not standard, but proprietary to brands. Not good!)Buying a MW, okay, but someone has to put it in. Where are the good old days of selling, delivery, service? I'm from a small town, that's SOP.
I found PartSelect and called them. They didn't have the exact problem I had. They had a FAQ about the MW not starting. Mine wouldn't stop.
After describing what was happening, they had it in one. Looked at the plastic latch, bottom was curved out of shape. Door wouldn't close properly, causing it to run. It didn't heat, just ran. I ordered the parts. A spring and a latch. They came in quickly and my son and I began the repair. Found a You Tube on a similar type of door and they posited it might be the latch with step by step to follow. Ran back and forth from computer to kitchen.
Now, we didn't have the right tools to go along with the video we were watching. A long thin blade (about 12 inches) knife was used as the putty knife to pry up the edging that held the door glass. My son's long thin tiny philips screwdriver he uses to fix toys worked for the really tiny screws that held the latch part. We didn't have long nose pliers, but we messed up that part anyway, forgot to put in the new spring with the new latch. We worked it by hand and it went back together. Put it all together and discovered we forgot to put those tiny screws back at the latch. Wrestled the door back on and started it. Almost had a heart attack as it still was running when off. So unplugged, let it reset and it's been fine. Think it probably would have gone smoother with the proper tools. Anyway, glad I found PartSelect and that it was a relatively easy fix, even for those without tools and experience. A am a retiree, so don't feel you can't do it. Thank you so much PartSelect.

Trying to replace door latch for a Frigidaire microwave. Part # 5304477389. Thanks
PartSelect logo
Hi Carl, Thank you for your question. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. You will need to remove the plastic lining around the inside of the door. There are retainer clips holding the liner in place and you will need to use a putty knife to remove it. Depending on the type of microwave you have, you may have to come in from the bottom or from the top to remove the lining. Gently slide the putty knife in between the lining and the frame and go around the frame and gently pry it loose. On the hinge side you will need to come in from the backside to pry the lining off. The door latch is held in place by tension. There is a spring that is usually attached to the latch and to one of the fins on the door to provide it. With the inner lining removed you can now remove the old latch. Install the new latch by slipping it into the slots in the door and attach the spring to the bottom fin to allow for tension in the latch. Reinstall the lining and close the door. Plug the microwave back in. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

My door latch broke on the microwave. I took it apart and I was wondering if it takes a spring? All that was there were the broken pieces and no spring?
PartSelect logo
Hi Miguel, Thank you for the question. The spring is located on the hooks on the door, Part Number: PS1993448. There are no springs in the latch assembly with the switches. Hope this helps!

Microwave blowing fuse when start button pushed. Checking continuity on door switches (3) and thermal switches (3), 2 of each device read closed. The 3rd of each read open. However, the open door switch is a different color than the other 2; all 3 switches say NO on them. The open thermal switch has a red dot on it, the other 2 do not. Are these “different” switches meant to be NO? Thanks.
For model number FFMV1645TSA
PartSelect logo
Hi John, thank you for reaching out. According to our research "NO" means normally open which implies the circuit is open and current does not flow when the contacts are not actuated. Moving them to the other extreme position completes the circuit and the current starts flowing. Based on our understanding of the issue, we would suggest that you check the magnetron, part number PS12071305, to fix the issue. Before replacing it, we recommend checking the high voltage capacitor for continuity. We hope this solves your problem!

When I opened the door on the microwave, it tripped the breaker in the electrical panel. I reset it once and it did it again. After the second time, the breaker would not reset. I then unplugged the microwave and shut off the breaker. Do you think it has something to do with the door latch switch? Or something else?
For model number WMH31017AB0
PartSelect logo
Hello Ray, Thank you for the question. Normally this is an indication one or more of the Door Switches is defective and will need to be replaced. We suggest testing them with a Multi Meter to find the defective Switch. We hope this helps!

Hi! Our microwave door suddenly stopped closing. The clips just wiggle up and down and won't hold. It seems to me like it may be a spring issue. Can you point me in the direction of the proper spring replacement? Also, is this an issue a novice could potentially fix?
For model number FGMV174KFC
PartSelect logo
Hello Kaelena, Thank you for contacting us. We have researched the model you have provided and have found the part you are looking for is PartSelect Number PS979582. Most customers have been able to perform the repair on their own. Remember to discharge the capacitor for your microwave before beginning this repair. The capacitor can hold a potentially lethal charge even when the power has been disconnected from the microwave itself. We hope this helps!

Hi Ali, thank you for reaching out to PartSelect Canada. This issue means that one of your door switches is failing. There are two door switches for safety reasons. If they do not all release at the exact same time, it is designed to blow a fuse or trip your breaker. We recommend replacing both door switches, part numbers PS12071303 and PS12071302. Please reach out to customer service if you need help placing an order, anyone will be happy to assist you. We hope that helps.
