Element burned out
The original instructions were to replace burner and plug wires back in the same plug they came from.
The problem is that the plug order had changed between parts.
Use a pencil to highligt the plug numbers on both new and old plugset, to fint the new plug positions. And need to reorient one of the burners to allow existing wires to reach.

The part I ordered has 5 connections and the part to be replaced has 7 connections. I had to ask a friend who is expert in electrical wiring to help.
My friend used a tester to determine where each wire was supposed to connect to. I'm not sure what he did with the extra connections.
Bottom line is this part should work but you need an expert to do it for you because it's, like I said, not exactly like the one to be replaced.

Switch and Burner went out.
Replaced switch by according to video with no issues, Terminals were nearly identical as the new switch.

The terminals on the new burner were not located in the same position as the terminals on the old burner. I had to reference the wiring diagram to locate the correct wire to terminal location. There was not enough slack in the wires to position the new burner in the same position as the old burner. I had to rotate the new burner so the wires would reach. This cause me to have to rotate the warming burner because rotating the new burner, the terminals interfered with the terminals on the warming burner. I also had to reposition some of the wires so they would not contact the burner and terminals.

Right - front dual element not working.
With no install instructions (NOT good for diy-ers), looked through reviews and watched video for help. Replacement part - not same as original. Had to use magnifying glass to id the terminals / take a picture before disassembly. reassembled - found out terminals are different & black wire is too short. Took off element - rotated the clips one number counter clockwise, reassembled - removed black wire from harness for extra reach. Hooked up, lowered top for test. power on - everything OK. Power off - complete assembly. Power on - test. Seems to be good. When I called customer service for assistance because there was no instruction, they told me I should contact a local appliance repair person. (big joke).

One section of heating element failed to heat.
Followed on-line instructions to remove the defective heating element. Some connection tabs on the replacement unit were different than the original. One tab was too wide to accept the stove's slip-on wire connector without fling down the tab width on the heating element. Thanks to some on-line instructions, wire connections to element 1a and 2a had to be reversed. If not for those instructions I would probably have ended up sending the unit back to the supplier, as an incorrect replacement !

Old element connections different from new element
Disconnected power at breaker. Removed cooktop mounting screws, lifted top and propped in up position. Removed two screws and lowered two front burners mounting frame. Wiggled dual element free at the clips and proceeded to swap wires one at a time and realized the difference with connectors 1a and 2b much later when only the center portion was heating up. Finally figured out the problem and everything works as advertised. Pay attention if you own a Kenmore product.

I need part#316418401, it has been replaced by part # 316555800. I am told it is nearly the same except the wiring on the plug end of the new replacement burner does not exactly match the plug on the previous one. How do I ensure the wiring is connected properly (safely and effectively). Thanks.

Hi Mike, Thank you for the question. If you look closely at the ceramic block and look for the connection labels 1a, 2b etc.The location of the 1b and 2a connection locations have been reversed. The labeling of the connection is on the ceramic block next to the male connector spades but are hard to see and can be easily missed. Hope this helps!

Expandable element heats, but heat cannot be controlled. It gets red hot, but can't be turned down. Does the entire element have to be replaced?
For model number ples389aca

Hello Bernice, thank you for inquiring. This is most likely due to a faulty Switch for the Dual Element. The replacement Dual Infinite Switch for your model range is part number PS444541. Here is a link to some information on our website for testing the Dual Infinite Switch. https://www.partselect.com/Range-Stove-Oven+Infinite-Switch-Testing+repair.htm. Good luck with your repair!

Right front dual burner does not power off when knob turned to off. What part do i need please?
For model number CPLEF398CCB
PartSelect logo
Hi Carlos, Thank you for your question. If the burner does not turn off when you turn it off, the the burner may have shorted. If the electrical connections have fused together, you will need to replace the element. If the burner is not turning off the burner switch may also be the issue. Before inspecting these parts, unplug the oven from the electrical outlet. For the element, check for signs of bubbling, burning, wear, holes, or damage. If none of these signs are present, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. Touch each of the terminals one at a time with one probe while holding the other probe to the outside surface of the element. If either terminal shows continuity, it is defective. To test the entire element for continuity, place each of the probes on the terminals, one on each. The exact reading you should receive varies between models, refer to your owner’s manual to determine what yours should be, but if any element has a reading outside of 19 to 115 ohms, it is defective. If you do not receive the correct readings from the tests above or find damage on your element, you will need a replacement surface burner element. Inspect the switch also for signs of of burning, or overheated wires and terminals. If no issues are found, remove the switch in order to test it for continuity. Using a multimeter on Rx1 mode, test for continuity by touching the L1 and H1 terminals with the probes. Once you have completed that test, touch the probes to the L2 & H2 terminals. If your test results indicate that there is no continuity between one or both sets of terminals, you need a replacement infinite switch. We hope this helps! If you have any questions, please let us know.

The inner burner of the dual burner does not heat, is it the switch or the heating element failure. How do i trouble shoot, thanks
For model number FEFL79DS frigidaire
PartSelect logo
Hello Hon, thank you for your question. The most likely issue is the switch itself. This link will take you to information on testing the switch itself. You would need an ohm meter to test this switch. I hope this helps! https://www.partselect.com/Range-Stove-Oven+Infinite-Switch-Testing+repair.htm

I may not have been too clear on the element that is not working. Only the large right front element is not working, either the small or large "burner". The switch and potentiometer does not operate the element. Hopefully this will clarify the problem. Only the front right is not operable
PartSelect logo
Hi Dick, Thank you for your question. If the large front right burner is not working, the parts that you will need to check are the burner switch that you use to turn the burner on with and the element itself. You will need to use a multimeter to test the parts. For the burner switch, set the multimeter on Rx1 mode, test for continuity by touching the L1 and H1 terminals with the probes. Once you have completed that test, touch the probes to the L2 & H2 terminals. If your test results indicate that there is no continuity between one or both sets of terminals, you need a replacement infinite switch. To test for a shorted element, touch each of the terminals one at a time with one probe while holding the other probe to the outside surface of the element. If either terminal show continuity, it is defective. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
