The microwave suddenly stopped heating and began jumping loudly. Is it likely the magnetron stopped working?
    For model number JVM1653WH01
Hello Steve, thank you for your question. It is possible the magnetron has failed, but before replacing that part we would recommend checking the Line Fuse Part Number: WB27X10388, Secondary Door Switch Part Number: WB24X829 and Monitor Door Switch Part Number: WB24X830. You may also wish to check the High Voltage Diode Part Number: WB27X1160 as well. These parts are more commonly the issues with microwaves that don't heat any longer. I hope this helps!

Microwave doesn’t heat up food. Every thing else runs normally. Does it sound like magnetron or high voltage diode failed? How do we test to make sure which one failed by a multimeter?
    For model number JVM1870SF02
Hello Hung, Thank you for the question. I suggest testing the Diode with a multi meter first and check for continuity. If the Diode is good, you may need to replace the Magnetron. Thank you for your inquiry, good luck with this repair!

I have done all the checks on my GE over the range microwave that makes an electrical arc sound like an old flyback in a tv. This only lasts a few seconds, everything else works but no heat. Diode, capacity, transformer, switches and thermo cut outs check good on my fluke. With the case off, i see the magnetron arcing inside its galvanized looking square case when this occurs. I would have to say this is the problem. Would like to know your thoughts. One other thing, the thermo switch at the bottom of the unit must be to make the vent fan run when cooking on the stove below and it becomes very warm. So this should check as an open switch when cold? When i jumper this switch and turn the unit on, the vent fan runs immediately. Thanx
    For model number jvm1420bb01
Hello Jerry, Thank you for the question. Yes, I would recommend having the Magnetron replaced, Part Number: PS239126. The Hood Thermostat, PartSelect Number PS239318 closes with heat to run the vent fan and ensure the temperature is at a safer level. So when cold it should read open. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

There's a hum, no heating, and a smell of ozone when the unit is running. The resistance across the leads of my magnetron read less than 1 ohm. The resistance from leads to case is infinite.
    For model number JVM165088 005
Hi Jeff, Thank you for your question. If the microwave is not heating you are getting a reading of less thank 1 ohm, you will need to replace it. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Unit worked fine except it would not heat
Had to take unit off wall and disassemble the main casing.then disconnected the wires from the magnetron.took the mounting nuts off but wasn't able to remove the magnetron until I loosened the transformer out of the way .Then it came out easy.Installed the magnetron ,tightened the nuts, installed the transformer back in, connected the the wires back on and installed the casing on ,screwed the screws and got help to install the unit to the wall again.....Tested the unit before putting back on the wall to make sure it heated....The parts were exac same type and wasn't too hard to do...

        oven wouldn't heat
        1. remove microwave from wall
        2. remove cover (many screws)
        3. remove nuts holding magnetron in place (4)
        4. remove magnetron (this is a pain due to the plastic molding used to direct cooling air through the magnetron
        5. get new magnetron in place (this was even more fun to find the right angles to tilt to get the magnetron to fit
        6. re-tighten the 4 nuts on the magentron
        7. put the cover back on
        8. put the unit back on the wall.

bonus repair: the display flickered while the magnetron was on (cooking ) prior to the magnetron dying. found a ribbon cable on the control board to the display with an aluminum foil shield that had peeled off (adhesive failure). re-installing the aluminum shield with packaging tape, and the display no longer flickers

        Oven wouldn't heat
Over the range microwave. Replaced magnetron. Completely disassemble the case top and bottom.
Remove screws from bottom of HV transformer. Magnetron will not clear without this removal.

Remove nuts with socket from top of Magnetron. Remove thermo unit from old magnetron and attach it to new. Replace and bolt down Mag. Replace and screw in HV transformer. Make sure all wires are reconnected.

Put it back up on the wall. Took about three hours from taking it down from wall and putting it back up.
