Freezer compartment is getting ice build up back corner below ice maker & on backwall
For model number fgun2642lf2

Hello Mike, thank you for your question. The most likely issue is with the thermostat or the heater itself. More often the thermostat needs to be replaced. Test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter. Also check the motor to be sure its turning and blowing cold air into the fridge from the freezer. I hope this helps!

My refrigerator has been running at a high temperature. With the freezer running normal, by replacing the defrost thermostat will I fix the issue. Large amounts of frost has accumulated in the evaporator coils and I noticed that the attached defrost thermostat has the cap removed. Your thoughts.
For model number FGHN2866PF1

Hello Carl, Thank you for the question. We suggest testing the Defrost Thermostat. The best way to do this is to remove the thermostat from the refrigerator so you can control the temperature of the sensor. You can let the sensor warm up to room temperature. With the sensor warmed up to room temperature the sensor should read approximately 6.2K Ohms at 68°F. With the thermistor submerged is a glass full of ice water, the sensor should be very close to 32°F which should read approximately 16.3K Ohms. If the values that you are getting are far off from these readings, then the sensor is bad and should be replaced. We hope this helps!

The freezer is fine but the fridge keeps cycling from 33 to high and back again. The fan is working, the coils in freezer are not frozen over. ATA loss what to do. It’s a Frigidaire Galleria. The ice machine is not hooked up and never has been.

The cooling coils in the freezer ice up and require the unit to be turned off and manually defrosted. Is this a problem that can be remedied by replacing the defrost thermostat? Once defrosted the refer works fine for awhile until the whole process needs to be done again. Thanks for your help
For model number EW28BS71ISA

Hi David, thank you for reaching out. Based on our understanding of the issue, we would suggest that you check the defrost thermostat, part number PS3493212, as it is most likely faulty and may need to be replaced. The defrost thermostat monitors the temperature of the evaporator coils. When the coils drop below a set temperature, the thermostat contacts close to allow power to flow to the defrost heater during the defrost cycle. In the defrost cycle, the defrost heater melts away any frost that may have accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the defrost thermostat is defective, the thermostat contacts will not close. As a result, the thermostat will not provide power to the defrost heater. We hope this helps!
