Unplug your microwave before attempting this repair. You will need to remove the grill, which is held into place by two screws at the top of the grill (open your microwave door before doing this). Remove the grill. Remove the screw on the left holding the control panel in place. Loosen the screw behind the panel. You should now be able to lift the panel up and pull forward to detach. You will find the door switch by removing the screws to detach the switch assembly. Press on the release tab to remove the middle switch. Disconnect the wire connector to release the old switch. The door switch is normally closed.

Question:

I read somewhere that you should make sure the capacitor is discharged before you work on a microwave. How do you find the capacitor and how do you discharge it?

Jack Sell for model number jvm1950sr1ss

Answer:

Hi Jack, Thank you for your inquiry. The capacitor is found in the back of your microwave. The capacitor is discharged by creating a short circuit between the two capacitor terminals and from each terminal to chassis ground. For the proper procedure to discharge the capacitor, you will need to consult your owners manual. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Question:

I have 3 dor switches on my micro. Looking at diagram, only 2 switches are called out with numbers, door switch #29 (upper) & #30 (middle) in the diagram, they show as two different switches upper wb24x829 and middle wb24x30. No number for the lowest switch. However when i look at the switches on my particular unit, the upper and middle switch are the same and the lower 3rd switch is a different number. What should i order to replace all 3 switches? Which goes where? Follow what is on my unit or per the diagram? The switche have never been replaced. Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer:

Hi Christy, Thank you fort he question. You can do the repair on your own but you will need to be very careful and discharge the Capacitor. It can hold a charge long after the microwave has been disconnected from its power source. You will need to touch the blade of a insulated handle screwdriver to one of the capacitor terminals and hold it there for a few seconds. Repeat this process a few times. Hope this helps!

Richard for model number JVM6175SF1SS
September 20, 2017
Answer:

Hi Richard, Thank you for the question, If the appliance is running as normal but with no heat then the switches are fine. If the appliance is running while the door is open or if the fan and light are not turning on then you will need to replace the switches. If the appliance is just not producing heat we suggest you start with the Diode, Part Number: WB27X10597. This diode works with the Magnetron to produce the heat. If the diode did not fix the issue then the Magnetron, PartSelect Number PS2370172 is more then likely defective. Hope this helps!

The top and bottom are the same switch and the middle is the Monitor Switch." You can test these switches with a multi meter to tell if they have gone bad or not. I hope that helps. Question:

Hi, my microwave jvm1950sr1ss does not heat food. I removed the high voltage diode and checked with multimeter, it was gone, so replaced it. But still problem remains same, no heating of food/ cooking. Everything works fine. After shutting door table turns, fan on, vent works as well, light works fine. After opening door, motor stops, fan stops, light on. Do you think the door switch would be the problem? Do i need to discharge the capacitor before checking the door switch? How many door switches are usually are in my model? Should i replace all of them at once? How can i check the door switches by multimeter? Do i need to remove them before testing? Do you suspect some other cause? Thanks in advance

Answer:

Hello Ajit, thank you for your question. Please resubmit your question on the site with the model number of your equipment so that we can find the parts and information for you. However, in general there are typically 2 or 3 door switches in the microwave. The are open so you can test them with the multimeter. A reading of anything other than 0 is good. You absolutely need to discharge the capacitor before working on it. Here is a link on how to do so: https://www.partselect.com/Microwave+discharge-capacitor+repair.htm

Lee Ann for model number JVM1850BD001
December 6, 2018
Answer:

Hi Lee Ann, Thank you for your question. If the microwave is making a buzzing sound, there may be an issue with the magnetron. This part produces the heat for the microwave. Access to the magnetron will require removal of the cabinet. Disconnect the power and also discharge the high voltage capacitor to prevent an electrical shock. You can then locate the magnetron and disconnect the two attached wires and the mounting screws to remove it. You should also check the high voltage diode to verify that it is not shorted before condemning the magnetron. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

My microwave will shut itself down after a second or two after you hit the start button. You then have to reset the clock and try again. After resetting the clock twice it will cook for you. I have taken it apart and continuity tested the door switches. They seem fine. I tested them but opening and closing the door and they checked out. The middle switch had continuity until the switch was depressed, then it opened. I suspect the control panel. Is there a way to test it?

Answer:

Hello Gerald, Thanks for your question. Be sure to check the air vents as well around the microwave to ensure they are free of obstruction. When it comes to testing the internal microwave components such as the control panel, we would advise having a licensed technician do so, as your microwave's parts can contain electrical charges even when the microwave is unplugged. I hope this helps.

Answer:

Hello Jeff, thank you for contacting us. You would have a bad door switch, either one or both are bad. If the microwave tripped the breaker that could be an issue with the capacitor. Unless you have experience with these I do not recommend testing them as the capacitor can hold a lethal charge, it would need to be properly discharged. Good luck with the repair!

I saw a similar problem description at partselect.com and was confident to take the challenge to repair it myself. (Thanks to partselect.com). When I opened the microwave cover I found 3 similar switches. 2 of them works the same way and the other in reverse direction. Image diagram provided to buy parts is helpful to identify the switch.
Steps:
Remove the built-in microwave from the wall and keep it in an open space.
Remove the microwave screws and take the cover out.
Remove the 2 screws(inside) from the plastic panel where switches are snapped in
Gently remove the faulty switch and replace with the new one.
(In my case the topmost secondary door switch was broken)

After closing door the display panel must be tapped on to keep the unit operating.
The switches are not the problem! The problem is in the tolerences of the latch housing. I have ordered two new housings (Upper & Lower) and will see if the tolerences are closer. If not I will try epoxying a shim to the plate that operates the microswitches. The other option is to file the mounting slots of the housing to allow adjustment, which would be iffy, keeping them from moving with use. The exploded drawings really need to be clarified. The scale is way too small. It was extremely difficult to pick out the individual parts of the mechanisiam.
