Microwave would run but not heat.
It wasn’t the magnetron.
It wasn’t the diode.
It wasn’t just the fuse.
It was the High Voltage Capacitor (HVC). You know, the very thing they warn you about when opening the microwave. Just remember to discharge it using needle-nose pliers before probing around to find the problem. I also suggest you invest in a multimeter so as not to waste hundreds of dollars like I did; that way you can go straight to the real problem instead of replacing symptoms. If you replace the HVC, you will also want to replace the two fuses right in front of it. Also, there is a wiring diagram and a troubleshooting flowchart tucked behind the front console near the top. It is extremely useful!

Is there a video available to watch how this is replaced? Magnetron thermo
For model number wb27x11079
PartSelect logo
Hi Daniel, Thank you for your inquiry. We do not have a video at this time, but here is some information for you. Before beginning any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. The magnetron is a high voltage part that may contain a residual charge even after the microwave is unplugged that may pose a potential risk and it is best to have a repair person replace this part. If you are replacing the magnetron yourself you will need to uninstall the microwave from under the cabinet. Once you have unscrewed the mounting screws tilt the microwave down slightly so you can pull the power cord down through the cabinet and then remove the microwave from the mounting bracket. Place it on a padded surface. Use a Philips head screw driver to remove the screws holding the grill. With the screws removed open the door then slide the grille to the left and lift it up to remove it. If the glass tray and turntable are still in the microwave remove them. Then place the microwave on its back panel to expose the bottom panel. Remove the bottom panel. Disconnect the wire harness and release the wires from the twist retainer and then you can fully remove the bottom panel. Return the microwave to its upright position, remove the screws from the cabinet and carefully remove it. To avoid injury you should release the stored charge in the capacitor by using needle nose pliers with an insulated handle to touch both terminals at the same time. Be careful not to touch the metal portion of the tool. Now disconnect the wire connector from the magnetron. Now use a Philips head screw driver to unscrew the magnetron mounting screws. Detach the magnetron from the bracket and disconnect the wires from the thermal protector. Remove the screws to release the thermal protector bracket from the old magnetron. Prepare the new magnetron for installation by screwing the thermal protector bracket on to it. Confirm that the seal is in place at the base of the antenna the

Is this the reason why my microwave oven doesn't heat up my food. It lights up, the timer works, but no heat.

Hello Lauro, Thank you for the question. In most cases the Magnetron would need to be replaced. The Magnetron produces the heat. Hope this helps!

Hello Jerry, Thank you for the question. I woudl first suggest testing the Secondary Door Switches PartSelect Number PS237421 and the Monitor Door Switch PartSelect Number PS237422 with a multi meter to see if they are defective. If the switches are good you may have a defective Main Electronic Control Board PartSelect Number PS2370173. Hope this helps!

Microwave doesn't heat as seconds counts down, checked diode for continuity both directions, result is none, just infinity. Does the magnetron need to also be replaced with diode?
For model number JVM7195SF1SS
PartSelect logo
Hi Tom, Thank you for your question. If your diode does not show continuity, or shows continuity in both directions, you will need a replacement high voltage diode. If the magnetron tests fine, then you will just need to replace the diode. The part number listed under your model number for the diode is PS239740. If you need help placing an order for it, customer service is open 7 days a week and anyone will be happy to assist you. Please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!

When the door closes and light is off the microwave hums loud like it’s running and super heats in side. They only way to make it stop is to unplug it. The second you plug it back in it starts humming and heating inside with no light on.
For model number JVM7195FL1DS

Hello Matt, Thank you for the question. We suggest testing the Door Switches. Unplug your microwave before attempting this repair. You will need to remove the grill, which is held into place by two screws at the top of the grill (open your microwave door before doing this). Remove the grill. Remove the screw on the left holding the control panel in place. Loosen the screw behind the panel. You should now be able to lift the panel up and pull forward to detach. You will find the door switch by removing the screws to detach the switch assembly. Press on the release tab to remove the middle switch. Disconnect the wire connector to release the old switch. The top and bottom switches should read Normally Open and the Middle should read Normally Closed. If you need help placing an order, customer service is open 7 days a week. Please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!

How do I test the magnetron?
For model number WB27X11079
PartSelect logo
Hello Greg, thank you for asking. According to our research, you can test the magnetron by doing the continuity test using a multimeter. Connect the probes of the multimeter with the magnetron connectors. If the meter display show value between 0 and 5 ohms, then magnetron is working properly. If the value is not between the range, then the magnetron is faulty. We hope this helps!

While operating the microwave, the unit gave out a loud bzz for about 3 seconds them i heard a "pop" and it went dead. Control panel is not energized, house breaker did not trip, and no other symptoms. It is 8 years old and does not have any history of repair. I think this is the magnatron unit. Is there a way to test the unit before i buy a part that is about half the cost of a new microwave? Or, from my description, can you validate that the failure mode is typically the mag part?
For model number JVM1540DP1WW
PartSelect logo
Hello Richard, Thank you for the question. Normally the appliance would still power up and operate with a defective magnatron but would not produce heat. I suggest testing the Transformer, PartSelect Number PS2370038. If you are not familiar with Microwave repairs we suggest a repair man. The transformers can hold a charge even when unplugged and can be dangerous. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!
